That evening, after doing my makeup, I headed out to the corporate headquarters to meet Mason. 

Just outside, in the Rosewood Gardens, I ran into Ava and Caleb. 

They were walking hand-in-hand, fingers interlaced, pressed close together, the picture of newlywed bliss. 

“Chole, heading back to the family estate? Is Mason not with you?” Ava’s eyes sparkled with malicious delight. 

“Mason’s at the office. I’m meeting him there,” I replied. 

The moment I said it, I caught a flash of pure hatred in Caleb’s eyes. He’d always been jealous of Mason, his robust health, his natural leadership. Unlike himself, confined by his weakness. 

Jealousy makes people insane. It drove Ava to kill me in our last life. It drove Caleb to murder his own brother. 

After my polite goodbye, I walked away. Halfway down the path, I glanced back. 

Caleb was looking back too. Our eyes met, his gaze was filled with a possessive, unsettling hunger. A shiver of dread, a ghost from the past, crawled up my spine. I quickly turned away.
