Chapter 26

Pierce handled the situation with the deputy manager that same night.

He didn’t make a scene. He had his legal team track the internal files she’d pulled, tracing the data flow back to the source.

The results were worse than he imagined

In the last six months, she’d swiped sixteen internal files. Three of them contained proprietary details on core suppliers.

She’d sent screenshots of two of them to Amber.

Most of Amber’s “inside information” had come from this very line.

Pierce called her out by name during an internal meeting.

She sat at the far end of the conference table, her face flushing a dark, blotchy red, completely unable to explain herself.

HR fired her by the book that afternoon.

By sunset, Amber’s last dark channel was severed.

Yet,

she made one final, unexpected move.

She went to see Mr. Albright.

Her old high school counselor.

!

When Mr. Albright received Amber’s call in his office that afternoon, he went cold.

Ever since the wedding, he hadn’t been able to sleep.

He’d taken a couple of kicks at me on the day of the wedding.

It hadn’t been exposed publicly, but he knew.

And he was terrified.

So, when Amber called, he didn’t even have the spine to say no.

I heard later from Mr. Albright himself what Amber had demanded of him.

He was to be the first to speak up in the class group chat, posting a long-winded defense titled, “As a

teacher, I stand with Amber Howard.”

He agreed.

But before he could type a single word, Pierce’s assistant found him.

The assistant pulled out a tablet and played a video file: the full, uncut security footage from the wedding.

Someone had filmed it on their phone.

It showed Albright’s face clearly, then it panned down to his foot.

The two kicks he’d landed on my leg.

Crystal clear.

When Albright saw the footage, his chopsticks reportedly clattered onto the table.

“Mr. Albright,” the assistant said, voice polite but freezing, “only Mr. Mason and Ms. Coates have seen this footage so far. Ms. Coates says she isn’t pressing charges. But if you’re planning on speaking up for Amber,

she’ll reconsider.”

Albright sat in that chair for ten minutes, motionless.

Finally, he sent Amber a single message.

[Amber, I can’t help you with this. Don’t contact me again.),

Then, he left the group chat.

He was the first.

In the next forty-eight hours, over a dozen others followed suit, one by one.

Amber was still in the group.

But it was just her and three other people who hadn’t said a word in years.

She sent a message.

[Is that it? All of you, just running off?]

Nobody replied.

She sent another.

[You were all so eager to help me throw punches at that wedding, weren’t you?)

Still, nothing.

Three days later, the group was automatically dissolved by the system.

There weren’t enough active members left.

Amber had completely lost her place in everyone’s life.

Not because anyone had pushed her out.

But because everyone had quietly walked away.

Not a single person wanted to be in the same frame as her anymore.
