Someone sounded confused. “But I thought I heard the teacher calling for Hazel?” 

The buzz died instantly. 

Liam turned away, not looking at me, his voice dripping with sarcasm. “As if. She’s way too selfish for that. She probably just heard there was some big shot on campus and wanted an excuse to get attention.” 

Right then, a message popped up on my watch from the kid. 

[Angel, when can I see you again?] 

I replied and looked up. 

Ethan was suddenly standing right next to me. 

His voice was low and rough, like he was holding something back. “Are you going to the office? I’ll go with 

you.” 

I wasn’t sure if he was talking to me. 

I lifted my gaze to his face. 

He held eye contact for maybe two seconds before looking away, fidgeting. 

He cleared his throat. “Hazel, I have to go to the office anyway. I’ll walk with you. Or if you’re going somewhere else, I’m probably headed the same way…” 

Before he could finish, the principal and several teachers came over, eagerly surrounding a group of people 

decked out in designer clothes. 

The stunning woman in the middle waved at me, her voice warm and gentle. “Hazel, come here.” 

The teachers beamed with pride and started praising me. 

“Hazel hasn’t been with us long, but she’s always so helpful. She works incredibly hard. Her grades aren’t top-tier, but you can tell she really puts in the effort.” 

“She was even chosen to speak at the pep rally because of how much she’d improved. Wait-why didn’t she 

end up on stage again?” 

No one paid attention to that question.

Because the woman suddenly nudged a tall, coldly handsome guy forward and said teasingly, “Hazel, my 

brother has something to ask you. Ever since he met you, he’s been begging to see you again, but you were 

sick and he didn’t want to bother you.” 

“You’re so kind and warm-hearted-you wouldn’t reject a six-foot-two, broad-shouldered, eight-pack 

twenty-year-old’s request, right?” 

She winked at him. 

He looked a little embarrassed but stepped forward, face slightly red. “Hazel, can I get your number?” 

Ethan’s expression went completely dark. 

Liam’s eyes went wide, and he immediately snapped, “No. Hazel’s busy.” 

I stared at the guy’s stupidly handsome face.
