Chapter 36
“What do you mean you don’t know? I’ve heard that tons of kids from elite business families get engaged right out of high school and just wait until they’re legally old enough to marry. Sylvie, Caleb loves you so much; he’d never bear to let you go study abroad all by yourself. The Langdons will probably come propose to the Suttons before then.”
“Exactly! Our Sylvie is beautiful, has a great personality, and is the heiress of the Sutton family. She’s the perfect match for Caleb. How could he let her go overseas alone? He’ll definitely go with you.”
Seeing the expectant looks on everyone’s faces, Sylvie could almost picture her future marrying into wealth.
A cold sneer formed in Nova’s heart as she listened.
In her past life, Sylvie had indeed gotten married. Three years after high school graduation, during a class reunion, Sylvie had already returned from studying abroad and was engaged to a wealthy foreign heir.
Caleb had been there too. Hearing the news of her engagement, he completely ignored Nova’s dignity. His eyes went red, and he chased Sylvie outside, demanding to speak with
her alone.
Nova was Caleb’s wife at the time, and his reckless behavior made her a complete laughingstock at the reunion.
Later, the Langdon family business exploded, and Caleb became one of Lindenwood’s top
corporate tycoons.
Right around that time, Sylvie’s husband’s business failed, and he committed suicide by jumping off a building.
Sylvie returned to the country and rekindled her romance with Caleb.
To ensure a smooth divorce, Caleb locked Nova in a psychiatric hospital and personally murdered her two children.
The memories of her past life hit so hard that Nova accidentally snapped the pencil in her hand.
Alaric watched her reaction but stayed completely silent.
The sharp sound caught Tina’s attention.
Tina scoffed, “What’s wrong? Is someone having a hard time listening to this?”
“Ugh, our Sylvie was just born for a life of luxury. Don’t be so jealous, Nova. Maybe in your
next life, if you’re born into a rich family and look a bit prettier, Caleb might actually look your

way.”
The girls made no effort to hide their mockery, but Alaric wasn’t going to let it slide. He stood up, walked straight over to Tina, and hurled her backpack right out the window.
Tina’s face twisted in outrage. “Alaric! Are you out of your mind?!”
“I don’t hit women, but don’t provoke me.”
He delivered a swift kick to Tina’s desk, instantly silencing the obnoxious group.
With summer break right around the corner, none of them wanted to get beaten up.
Just then, a middle-aged man’s voice echoed from the hallway. “Is this Class One?”
The man looked to be in his forties, with a well-proportioned build but a weathered face and a few gray hairs. He wore a chauffeur’s uniform, worn-out sneakers, and his hands were rough and calloused.
Nova knew immediately-this was Sylvie’s father.
Sylvie hadn’t expected Owen to arrive so quickly. Before she could even figure out what to say, Tina looked at him in confusion. “Who are you?”
The rest of the students sized him up critically.
Owen gave a good-natured smile. “I’m Syl-”
“He’s our family’s driver!”
The words practically tumbled out of Sylvie’s mouth in sheer panic. She rushed over to Owen’s side, ignoring his bewildered expression. “My dad is busy and couldn’t make it, so he had our driver come instead.”
