Chapter 37
“Oh, so he’s the Sutton family’s driver. I was going to say, there’s no way Mr. Sutton would
dress like that.”
“Make sense. Sylvie’s dad is the CEO of the Sutton Group. He’s incredibly busy every day. How could he possibly find time to come to the school?”
Tina and the other students chimed in, forcing an incredibly awkward smile onto Sylvie’s
face.
Beside her, Owen clearly realized his daughter was lying to her classmates, pretending to be some wealthy heiress. He tugged at her sleeve and said gently, “Sylvie, how could you…”
“How dare you!” Sylvie shoved him away, her voice frantic. “Who gave you the right to use my first name? You’re nothing but a driver for our family! I was letting it slide because of your age, but don’t push your luck!”
Tina sneered, “Exactly. A lowly driver dares to get handsy with his boss’s daughter? Know your place.”
Owen’s face darkened. Terrified he would blow her cover if he stayed any longer, Sylvie began shoving him toward the door. “The teacher is waiting for you in her office! Go, now!”
Seeing how desperate his daughter looked, Owen knew she was terrified of being exposed. As much as he disapproved of her lies, he wanted her to have an easier time at school, so he bowed his head and shuffled away.
Tina scoffed in annoyance. “Sylvie, your driver has absolutely no manners.”
“He probably thinks he can do whatever he wants just because he’s worked for the Suttons for a long time!”
Listening to her classmates belittle her father, Sylvie managed a painfully forced smile.
Meanwhile, Nova, who was pretending to do her math problems, wore an incredibly entertained grin.
“What are you smiling at?”
“This is fun.”
“What’s fun about it?”
“You wouldn’t get it, but I bet you will someday.”
Watching Sylvie squirm in panic over her fake identity gave Nova a massive rush of satisfaction.
She couldn’t wait to see how Sylvie would handle the fallout when her massive web of lies

finally unraveled.
Half an hour later, Owen walked out of the office with a thunderous expression. Sylvie turned deathly pale the moment she saw his face. But with Tina and the others still hovering nearby, she forced herself to act calm. Striding up to him, she snapped, “Are you done talking? If you’re done, let’s go!”
Her tone was entirely commanding.
She was desperate to get him out of there, but Tina chose that exact moment to step up. “Listen here, driver. Our Sylvie just had a minor slip-up on her exams this time. You know exactly what to tell your boss, right?”
When Owen didn’t respond, Tina assumed he was being stubborn and immediately threatened him. “Caleb told us to make sure Sylvie is taken care of. If you dare breathe a word of this to anyone, Caleb won’t let you off the hook-and neither will we!”
Tina thought she sounded incredibly intimidating, but sitting in the classroom, Nova nearly burst out laughing.
This was too good.
Not only were her parents called in for bad grades, but now her underage dating was out in the open too.
Sylvie was suffocating in her own trap. On the verge of tears, she desperately shoved Owen forward. “That’s enough! I need to get home. Go pull the car around right now!”
Owen, who had been suppressing his rage all along, finally snapped. He shoved Sylvie away and slapped her across the face.
The strike sent a burning sting radiating across half her face.
Tina exploded. “Are you insane?! Our Sylvie is a wealthy heiress! You’re just a driver! Who gave you the right to lay a hand on her?!”
