Chapter 39
August rolled around, and summer break was drawing to a close.
One afternoon, the class group chat suddenly blew up. Nova opened it to see Sylvie enthusiastically inviting everyone to cool off at The Crestwood Villa.
The prospect of visiting a luxury villa instantly piqued the class’s interest.
Seeing the message, Nova couldn’t help but smirk.
It seemed Sylvie was terrified that Owen’s appearance at school had raised suspicions, so she had arranged this little getaway to prove her status as the Sutton family heiress.
Her wording was incredibly deliberate too. She only invited everyone to “cool off at the villa” without explicitly claiming it belonged to her family, cleverly leaving herself an out if things went south.
Nova rolled over on her bed, grabbed the giant teddy bear beside her, and darted next door to Alaric’s room.
Without knocking, she pushed the door open, wearing nothing but a simple cartoon nightgown. Inside, Alaric was leaning against the window, reading a book.
Nova beamed. “Alaric, are you free the day after tomorrow?”
Alaric’s gaze shifted from her sweet smile down to her smooth, slender legs.
“How many times have I told you not to wear nightgowns this short around the house?”
With that, he grabbed a gift box beside him and tossed it straight at her.
Nova deftly caught it with both hands, causing her teddy bear to slide down her legs and flop onto the floor.
Staring at the long pink box, she asked, “What’s this?”
“Your reward.”
Over the course of the summer break, Nova had successfully dropped from a hundred and thirty pounds down to a hundred and ten.
As an unexpected bonus, she had even grown an inch taller.
Now, she had a stunning figure, complete with breathtaking curves. She was slim where it counted and soft in all the right places, looking absolutely nothing like the chubby girl she used to be.
And every time she lost ten pounds, Alaric would buy her a gift using the money he earned from part-time jobs.
The last gift had been the giant teddy bear.
Nova slept with it in her arms every single night.
This time, it was a cute, full-length nightgown.
Unboxing it and feeling the luxurious fabric, Nova couldn’t help but ask, “This was expensive, wasn’t it?”
Alaric didn’t answer, but Nova could tell from the craftsmanship that it wasn’t cheap-it was a luxury brand.
He had spent the entire summer working odd jobs, yet she had never seen him spend a dime on himself.
Turns out, he was saving it all to buy her gifts.
Seeing how happy she was, a soft smile touched Alaric’s lips.
“Do you like it?”
“I love it!”
She held the dress up against herself. “Will I look a little too cute in this?”
“It is cute. It suits you.”
Alaric’s tone was casual, but laced with undeniable fondness.
In her excitement, Nova almost forgot why she came in the first place. “Right! Are you free the day after tomorrow or not?”
“What’s up?”
“Sylvie invited the whole class to cool off at The Crestwood Villa. Do you want to come with me?”
At the sound of Sylvie’s name, the smile vanished from Alaric’s face. He turned back to his book, not even bothering to look up. “No.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah.”
“There’s going to be a great show.”
“I’m still not officially in the A-Track Class. You go ahead, just be careful on the way.”
Seeing that he wasn’t interested, Nova didn’t push it. But just as she turned to leave, he suddenly spoke up. “Send me the address.”
“Did you change your mind?”
