The Lucan Marked Me - Chapter (19)

Chapter 19
Sienna
I had the weirdest dream last night.
Oftentimes I barely recalled the details of my dream. But not last night. I could recall every
single detail. And even as I stood in front of the mirror, toweling my hair and watching
droplets of water run down the curve of my neck, I couldn’t decide whether or not that was a
good thing in this case. I should have been focused on getting dressed, on the day ahead, but
my mind was still stuck in the dream.
A child.

I didn’t recognize the voice, but I felt it. Deep, bone-deep. Like the way someone might feel
the first snowfall, or the last note of a song you didn’t want to end. They hadn’t said much,
just called out to me. Once. Mama. That was it. One word. And yet, it had dragged me out of
sleep with a jolt so hard I’d sat up, breathless, half-convinced I wasn’t alone. I pulled on my
sweater slowly, trying to shake it off. It wasn’t the first strange dream I’d had, and it probably
wouldn’t be the last.
But it was definitely the weirdest.
And not in the way I could recall every single detail either. A child? That was the most
random thing to dream about when I was trying to figure out what direction my life was
headed. If I was going to live with Mara forever. It wasn’t something I had wanted, but it was
easily looking like something that was going to be a reality. My reality. I still needed to get my
powers under control, still had to find a purpose to keep living. I had all these and more to
think about.
So I wasn’t sure why out of all the possibilities, I’d fallen asleep and dreamt of a child.
I’d woken up late so Mara had already left for the shop. By the time I got there, she had

already unlocked the doors and was fussing with the crystals on the display table like they
personally offended her. It seemed like business had been slow for a few hours, which was
unusual. “You look like you barely slept,” she said without looking up. I stared at my reflection
in a small mirror.
I did?
It wouldn’t be the first time I was questioning how she could easily tell the things I tried to
hide. I hovered behind the counter, fingers brushing over the edge of the wooden surface. “Yeah. I had…weird dreams.” I said vaguely. Nevermind that I’d woken up several times in the middle of the night and the dreams had always just picked up from where they’d stopped.
She looked up then. “The kind you remember?”
I hesitated. Then nodded. “There was a child. I didn’t see their face, but I felt-” A small frown
overtook my face. “I felt like they were mine. They called me Mama.”
Mara didn’t say anything at first. Just tilted her head like she was listening to something I
couldn’t hear. “The goddess doesn’t send dreams without reason,” she said eventually, voice
calm. “She knows what we need long before we do. Either way, she’s always right.”
I gave a small laugh. “That’s why my mate had ordered his warriors to send me out of the pack
the morning after we’d been intimate for the first time?” I retorted. She didn’t seem too
surprised. “Yes,” I confirmed. “That’s why I was down when I heard the news. King Logan is my
mate.”
Again, she was silent for a few minutes. Then she gave me a sad smile. “I’m sorry that happened to you.” She said softly, reaching for my hand and rubbing it soothingly. “And you
might not want to hear it right now, but I’m sure the goddess had a reason for allowing it.” She gave my hand a soft squeeze before retracting hers. “I’m sure you’re being looked after.”
I barely held back my scoff, not bothering with a reply. What was there to be said? I spent the rest of the morning pretending to be fine, even though a weird restlessness ate at my insides.

I told myself it was just… Logan. Talking about him always left me feeling out of control. The
bell over the door chimed a few times, and then it was back to just Mara and me. I was
organizing some herbs in the shop when the flare came; sharp and sudden.
A tremor ran through my fingers, the glass vial of dried sage heating under my touch until it
cracked. “Damn it,” I hissed, shaking my hand.
Mara appeared instantly. “What was that?”
I didn’t want to answer. But my hands were still shaking. “Sienna.”
“I’m fine.”
What had just happened?
She crossed the room and placed her hands on mine. “No, you’re not. What’s going on?”
I met her eyes, the truth I’d refused to admit even to myself, tumbling out before I could hold
them back. “I’ve been having… episodes. It’s not just dreams. I get dizzy sometimes. The
energy around me spikes. Things move. Crack.”
She nodded slowly. “And the dream of the child…was that the first?”
“No. Just the most…clear.”
Her eyes widened subtly, before she tried to act natural. “You should sit.”
“Mara-”
“You’re pregnant.”
Silence.
I blinked at her, heart racing. “That’s not possible.”

Her expression softened. “You’re Eldryn, Sienna. Your body wouldn’t give you normal signs.
Your energy would tell you first. Through dreams. Through chaos.” I pressed a hand to my
stomach, breath caught somewhere between denial and awe. Logan. Suddenly, everything
made sense. The aching, the pull, the strange grief I couldn’t name.
I wasn’t just carrying his memory.
I was also carrying his child.
