The Lycan Marked Me and Walked Away
Chapter 20
Logan
Five Years Later.
There was a silent rule in this palace.
No unexpected visitors.
So when one of my warriors came knocking before sunrise, muttering something about an old
seer who had “politely requested” to see me, my first instinct was to throw the request
straight into the fire. I didn’t like surprises. And I sure as hell didn’t like seers who showed up
unannounced.
But I gave permission for them to let her through anyway.
The throne room was a bit chill when I walked in. I sat with my arms draped over the sides of
the chair, trying to reign in my annoyance. I hadn’t even asked for breakfast. I just wanted this
over with. The doors creaked open after a while, and in walked someone who looked like she’d
crawled straight out of the pages of an old storybook.
She stopped a few paces from the dais, lifted her chin, and met my eyes with a stare that
didn’t waver. She bowed slightly, but it was still obvious she was clearly part of the seers who
felt they wielded all the power in the world. “You’ve made a mistake,” she announced, delving
right into her message.
My brows lifted. “You walked all the way here to tell me that?”
She smiled faintly, as though I’d cracked some kind of joke. “You misread the prophecy. Made
the wrong decision. But your mistake can still be corrected.” The room stilled. The warrior
standing behind her stiffened slightly. Mistake? There was no room to make mistakes.

“You’re assuming I believe in prophecies,” I said slowly.
Her smile faded. “You believed enough to leave your mate.”
I flinched before I could stop myself.

The woman stepped forward. “You looked for strength in what was already strong. And
dismissed the one vessel that had the kind of power even you couldn’t see. But it wasn’t your
eyes that failed you, Logan Draven. It was your own fear.”
My hands fisted.
Why was I entertaining her?
I should have dismissed her the second she’d stepped into the room and had the nerve to
declare that I’ve made a mistake.
“I had given that vision to the elders myself,” She continued, “Not realizing how deeply they
feared what they did not understand. I never said she needed to be royalty. Or a warrior. She
would carry fire in silence. Perhaps I should have mentioned that she would come from ashes
and choose to rise.”
She was talking about Sienna.
Her name hadn’t passed between my lips in years, but she had never truly left me. “Why
now?” I asked quietly. “Why tell me this now?”
She looked at me, and for the first time since she’d stepped into the throne room, her
expression shifted. There was something mournful behind her eyes. “Because the storm is
close by. And if you’re not standing where you’re meant to be when it breaks…everything will
fall.”
Before I could muster the courage to ask what she meant by that, she had turned and walked
out. I knew a seer’s unannounced visit never went well, but this had me feeling even more

unsettled than I’d expected. I sat in the throne room for a long time, saying nothing. Thinking
of too many things at once.
After what seemed like hours, I stood and headed to my room. I dismissed Maurie, no longer
having the appetite to have breakfast. Instead I decided to take a stroll into the woods in a bid
to clear my head. I was barely past the courtyard when it happened.
A horn sounded. The high-pitched, frantic one that meant only one thing-rogues. Someone
was sounding the alarm. The one that meant they had gotten past the borders and were
already in the pack. I immediately tensed. There was no time waste, no time to ask questions.
I noted some of the warriors immediately swinging into action.
We shifted mid-run, our wolves hitting the forest line at full speed. The trees were already
echoing with snarls and roars. How on earth had they made it past the borders? They had
come fast, too fast, like they’d known exactly where to hit.
I didn’t hold back.
I didn’t think. I tore through the forest like a beast, lunging at my enemies with claws and
teeth. There was chaos all around me, sounds of whimpers and howls of agony. Somewhere
between the snapping of bones, I knew—
This wasn’t random.
They hadn’t just found a weak point in our borders. Someone had told them where to find it.
When the fight was done and the ground was littered with the dead, I shifted back, chest
heaving. Kael came up beside me, blood streaked across his face and neck, his eyes still half-
glowing.
“They knew our terrain,” he pointed out.
I nodded once. “Who was posted on perimeter duty last night?”
“Cassian assigned Rafe,” Kael replied. “One of the older Lycans. Doesn’t usually miss a shift.”

“Then where the hell had he been?”

No answer. I cursed underneath my breath. “Find him,” I said darkly. “Now.” Kael took off. I
stood there, blood drying against my skin, my mind spiraling until he returned minutes later,
his expression grim.
“Cabin’s empty. No signs of a fight. He’s gone.”
My jaw clenched. “He ran.”
“Looks like it.”
I didn’t say anything for a long moment. The rogues weren’t just testing our borders anymore.
They were starting to infiltrate. Was the doom the prophecy had spoken of? The storm the
seer warned was nearby? “Organize a search party,” I said, my voice low. “Now. If he’s running,
I want to know where he’s running to, who he’s working with, and how long he’s been giving
them intel.”
Kael nodded and shifted again, taking off into the trees. My mind drifted to Sienna, regret
curling in my stomach. It was almost impossible that she would suddenly show up after five
years.
But maybe, just maybe, the goddess wasn’t done with us yet.
