AVA’S POINT OF VIEW
“What the hell is this?”
Alpha Logan’s voice rang through the gathering, sharp enough to silence the entire pack in an instant.
The lively atmosphere vanished.
His grip tightened around the document as his eyes skimmed over the contents. Then they lifted to
meet mine, burning with a mixture of disbelief and fury.
A mating unbinding statement.
Mine.
“Is this supposed to be some kind of joke, Ava?” he demanded, his expression hardening. His gaze
swept across the crowd as though expecting someone-anyone-to tell him this wasn’t real.
No one did.
Because they were just as stunned as he was.
The entire pack stood frozen, about to witness something no one ever thought possible.
I didn’t waver.
Holding his gaze without hesitation, I spoke clearly.
“I’m unbinding you, Alpha Logan.”
The rage in his eyes faltered.
For the briefest moment, he simply stared at me.
As though he couldn’t comprehend what I’d just said.
“…What?”
I kept my voice calm.
“Our mating bond ends today.”
Gasps rippled through the crowd, followed by hushed whispers.
The Luna…

Was leaving her Alpha.
It was something no one had ever imagined could happen.
The fury on Logan’s face slowly gave way to something far more unfamiliar.
Shock.
“Ava…”

The powerful Alpha Logan-the man who commanded fear with a single glance-struggled to find his voice.
“W-what are you talking about?”
I looked at him without the slightest hint of hesitation.
Because the man standing before me was no longer the man I had fallen in love with.
Not after what I found out three months ago.
Today was supposed to be a celebration.
A day for the pack to honor their Alpha and Luna.
But Logan had no idea…
This celebration had never been for him.
It was for me.
The day I finally walked away.
Because three months ago, I uncovered the truth.
My Alpha.
The man who swore I was his only mate.
The man who called me his precious Luna.
Had been living a second life behind my back.
A life…
That was never meant to include me.

Tomorrow was my birthday.
For the past week, I’d been counting down the days like an excited pup.

Logan was in Mooncrest Rack again. He spent more time there than anywhere else lately, always saying his frequent visits were necessary to strengthen the alliance between our packs. As Luna, I never questioned it. Politics came before comfort. Duty before desire.
Besides…
It was only for a few days.
I decided to surprise him.
If he was too busy to come home, then I’d go to him. We could spend my birthday together, steal a quiet evening before responsibilities pulled him away again.
The thought alone made me smile.
By the time I reached Mooncrest, dusk had begun to settle over the pack. I was making my way toward the hotel where he usually stayed when a familiar scent drifted through the air.
Cedar.
Rain.
The unmistakable scent of my mate.
My steps slowed.
Across the road stood Mooncrest Kindergarten.
And standing in front of it…
…was Logan.
My brows drew together.
What was he doing at a kindergarten?
I stayed where I was, hidden behind the shade of a maple tree as children poured out of the building in tiny uniforms, laughing and running into waiting arms.
Then a teacher approached Logan with a warm smile.
“Naya did wonderfully today. She was so happy because her father came to participate in the family games.”

Eather?
I blinked.
The teacher continued with a sympathetic sigh.

“She misses you terribly whenever you’re away. She cries almost every morning asking when her daddy is coming back. It’s heartbreaking.”
I waited…
Waited for Logan to laugh awkwardly.
To explain she’d mistaken him for someone else.
To tell her she had the wrong person.
Instead…
He lowered his head.
A look crossed his face that I’d almost forgotten existed.
Regret.
Not the controlled remorse of an Alpha apologizing to his people.
Something softer.
More personal.
More… guilty.
My stomach tightened.
Then the little girl ran straight into his arms.
“Daddy!”
She threw herself at him without hesitation.
Logan caught her effortlessly, lifting her high into the air as her laughter echoed across the courtyard.
The sound split something inside me.
No…
No…
My gaze shifted to the woman walking toward them.
My breath caught.
Celine.
Logan’s adopted sister.
The girl Logan’s family had adopted as their daughter and raised as his sister-a girl they had loved
and cherished as one of their own.
She smiled at him with an ease that felt painfully intimate, brushing invisible dust from the little girl’s hair before naturally slipping into step beside him.
Like they’d done it a thousand times before.
The three of them looked…
Complete.
Like a family.
My wolf stirred uneasily inside me.
This isn’t right.
Logan opened the rear door of the SUV himself, carefully buckling the little girl into her seat before walking around to the passenger side.
He opened Celine’s door and waited for her to settle in. When he leaned over to fasten her seatbelt, it was close enough to feel familiar. He closed the door with the same ease he always had, then got in on the other side. The front passenger seat. The seat he’d once joked was reserved for only one
woman.
“No one sits beside me except my mate.”
I remembered those exact words.
Yet there she was.
Sitting exactly where I should have been.
Something hot burned behind my ribs.
Without thinking, I shifted into my wolf and followed from a distance, weaving through the forest while keeping the vehicle in sight.

Eventually, they stopped in front of a sprawling mansion tucked away on the outskirts of Mooncrest.
It wasn’t the hotel.
It wasn’t a guest residence.
It looked lived in. Logan stepped out first and opened Celine’s door again. Then he reached for the little girl, and her tiny arms went straight up to him.
“Daddy… carry me.”
His face softened.
God…
I’d never seen him smile like that.
He scooped her into his arms, kissed the top of her head, and together they disappeared into the house.
I stared after them.
Maybe…
Maybe she just called every man Daddy.
Children did that sometimes.
Didn’t they?
I clung to that thought with both hands.
It was the only thing keeping my heart from completely shattering.
Nearly an hour later they emerged again, dressed neatly as if heading somewhere special.
Curiosity-and dread-dragged me after them.
Their destination was an upscale restaurant overlooking Mooncrest Lake.
I couldn’t get inside without a reservation, so I remained outside the floor-to-ceiling windows where every movement inside was painfully visible.
A waiter came out with a birthday cake, candles flickering in the dim light. Logan accepted it, and my heart fluttered. Wait. Was the cake for me?
The foolish hope barely had time to bloom before it was crushed beneath a single sentence.

“Happy Birthday, Anaya!”
The room erupted into laughter.
Not mine.
Hers.

The little girl clapped excitedly before blowing out the candles as Logan and Celine applauded proudly.
I stood frozen. Tomorrow was my birthday. And here he was, not planning anything for me. He was too busy playing the role of another man. The lump in my throat rose painfully as I swallowed.
Celine leaned over with a smile.
“What did you wish for, sweetheart?”
Anaya’s eyes sparkled as she looked straight at Logan.
“I wished Daddy could stay with me every birthday… and live with us forever.”
Silence.
For a fraction of a second…
Logan’s smile faltered.
Embarrassment flashed across his face before Celine hurried to smooth things over.
“Sweetheart, Daddy is very busy, remember?”
Anaya’s tiny lips quivered, her lower lip jutting out as tears gathered in her wide eyes.
“But I miss him…”
The words came out in a broken whisper, fragile enough to shatter the silence around the table.
Logan didn’t hesitate. He leaned forward immediately, his thumb brushing beneath her eye with a
tenderness that made my chest tighten.
“Today’s your birthday,” he murmured, his voice impossibly gentle, the kind that soothed fears before they could even grow. “So no more sad faces.”
A soft smile curved his lips.
“I promise…”
His hand found Celine’s beneath the table with practiced ease, their fingers slipping together as

The words slammed into me with brutal force, echoing through my skull until every other sound
disappeared.
Our family.
Of three.
Celine’s eyes shimmered with unshed tears as she looked at him. Her fingers tightened around his
hand.
He squeezed back without hesitation.
The gesture was so effortless.
So natural.
My knees nearly buckled beneath me.
Four years.
Four years of carrying the title of his mate… yet I’d never once seen him look at me the way he was looking at her.
Four years believing I was building a future with the man who had once waited hours at the airport just to welcome me home from studying abroad.
The moment our eyes met that day…
We both knew.
Mate.
He’d sworn there would never be another woman.
I’d believed every word.
Every promise.
Every kiss.
Every “I love you.”

How stupid.
How unbelievably…
stupid.
The restaurant blurred.
I turned and ran.

Branches whipped against my fur as I fled blindly through the forest, unable to hear anything except
the sound of my own heart breaking.
The pain was so sharp it felt physical.
My lungs burned.
My vision blurred.
I didn’t see the headlights until they were almost on top of me.
A deafening horn.
Blinding light.
Then…
Nothing.
When consciousness slowly returned, the sharp scent of antiseptic stung my nose.
“…Do you think she knows?”
Dorian.
I recognized his voice instantly.
My lashes fluttered on instinct, but I forced my eyes shut, keeping my breathing slow and steady.
“Knows what?” Logan asked.
“About you and Celine having a child.”
My heartbeat stuttered.
For a single terrifying moment, it felt as though my heart had forgotten how to beat.

Silence settled over the room, thick and suffocating.
Finally, Logan spoke.
“Don’t be ridiculous.”
His voice was calm. Controlled. Not a hint of panic.
“Naya is Asher’s daughter.”
A dry, humorless chuckle escaped Dorian.
“Right. Keep telling yourself that. Whether she’s Asher’s on paper or not, you crossed the line with Celine years ago. If it weren’t for her, you wouldn’t have stayed fated to Ava for four years without ever touching your own mate.”
Every muscle in my body locked.
The room fell quiet.
Then Logan exhaled.
“It’s not only because of Celine.”
My breath caught painfully in my chest.
“I still think she’s dirty.”
One word.
Just one.
Dirty,
The word crashed into me with far more force than a slap ever could.
The man I’d loved.
The man I’d trusted with every broken piece of my heart…
Had looked at me all these years and seen someone unworthy of even his touch.
A phone rang.
Logan muttered something before leaving the room.
The door clicked shut.

Only then did I open rny eyes.
There were no tears.
No screams.
Just an emptiness so vast it swallowed every emotion whole.
Slowly, I reached for my phone.
My fingers trembled as I typed a single message.
Prepare the unbinding agreement.
Five minutes later, my phone rang.
Nyxelle.
I answered.

“Corin Ashford just contacted me,” she said carefully. “He said you asked him to draft an unbinding
agreement.”
A pause.
Then she asked quietly,
“… Is it Alpha Logan finally discover you left the pack years ago to search for another mate?”
