The moment we stepped through the front door, a small figure came running toward me.
“Dad!”
Anaya’s tearful cry hit me like a slap.
My body went rigid.
For one terrifying second, I couldn’t breathe. My gaze snapped toward Ava, searching her face for any
sign that she had caught it.
She had.
But instead of suspicion, she only looked at Anaya with a hint of pity.
“It seems Anaya misses her father,” she said.
The breath I had been holding slowly escaped my lungs.
Thank God.
I crouched slightly, forcing my expression to remain calm as I looked at the little girl.
“Anaya, don’t call me that. I’m your uncle.”
Her footsteps stopped.
She stared at me through the tears clinging to her lashes, as though she couldn’t understand why I
was suddenly pushing her away.
For a few seconds, she said nothing.
Then she lowered her head.
“I’m sorry, Uncle,” she whispered. “I just… miss my father.”
The last word trembled out of her.
Fresh tears gathered in her enormous eyes, slipping down her cheeks before she could wipe them
away.
Something twisted painfully in my chest.

Lreached down and lifted her into my arms.
“Hey. Where’s your mom?”
Celine should have been back by now. She had left the venue before us.
Anaya’s little fingers curled into my shirt.
“Mom…”
She swallowed hard.
“Mom is gone.”
“She left?”
Anaya nodded, her lower lip trembling.
“She said she doesn’t want me anymore.”
Her face crumpled.
The sob that followed made me instinctively tighten my hold around her. I rubbed her back, trying to
quiet her while reaching for my phone with my free hand.
I needed to find Celine.
Before I could dial her number, my phone rang.
Dorian.
I answered immediately.
“Dorian?”
“Alpha Logan, your sister is making a scene at Sky Bridge Bar.”
I closed my eyes briefly.
Of course she was.
Dorian sounded irritated, but beneath it was something else-a careful restraint. He knew better than
to let whatever was happening between Celine and me turn into another confrontation.
“I’ll be there.”
I ended the call and turned toward Ava.

“I’m sorry, Ava. I need to go to the bar and bring Celine home.” I adjusted Anaya against my chest. “Could you stay here and look after her for me?”
“No!”
Anaya suddenly twisted in my arms.
Before I could stop her, she slipped down and darted behind my legs, wrapping both arms around my
trouser leg.
“I don’t want her to take care of me!”
I looked down at her.
“She’s your aunt. If you won’t let her take care of you, who will?”
Anaya didn’t answer.
She simply peeked around my leg.
Her wet eyes locked onto Ava.
There was something unsettling in that stare. A four-year-old shouldn’t have looked at someone with
that much resentment.
I swallowed and gently touched the top of her head.
“Anaya, be good.”
“I just don’t want her!”
Ava’s expression tightened.
She looked at Anaya for a moment before releasing a quiet breath.
“Forget it, Logan. If she doesn’t like me, don’t force her.”
“Ava…”
“I’m serious.” She folded her arms. “I don’t exactly know how to take care of children anyway. You can
take her with you to the bar and find Celine. It’s not some shady club.”
Her words were reasonable, but somehow they made me feel worse.

Sky Bridge Bar wasn’t particularly crowded when we arrived, which made it easy to spot Celine and
Dorian.
Celine was sitting at the bar with a glass in her hand, her cheeks flushed and several empty glasses
scattered nearby.
I frowned.
“Celine, why are you drinking?”
I reached for her arm to help her up, but she immediately knocked my hand away.
“Why did you come to see me again?” Her voice was thick with alcohol and anger. “Don’t you want to
be with Ava?”
I stared at her.
“I only granted your wish.”
My jaw tightened.
Dorian caught my gaze from across the room. I gave him a subtle gesture toward Anaya.
“Take her outside for a minute.”
Dorian understood immediately. He walked over, took Anaya from my arms, and led her toward the
entrance.

Only after they were gone did I turn back to Celine.
She was still glaring at me.
I knew exactly what this was about.
Ava.
I pulled out the stool beside her and sat down.
“When did I say I wanted to be with Ava?”
Celine scoffed.
“You didn’t have to say it.”
“I was only asking her what business she had discussed with Luna Auri.”
“What can Ava possibly talk about?”
Celine caught my hand before I could respond and pressed it against her chest.
“I’m the one negotiating the deal for you.”
Her eyes flashed with determination despite the alcohol clouding them.
“I’ve already prepared everything. I’ll send them the new data report next week.”
She leaned closer.
“I’ll show you what Ava can’t do.”
I stared at her.
I hadn’t expected this.
Celine had actually handled the negotiations herself.
A smile slowly pulled at the corner of my mouth.
“You really are my mate.”
Her anger faltered.
I squeezed her hand.
“Having you is the greatest fortune of my life.”

The tension in her face gradually disappeared.
The corner of her lips lifted.
I leaned back, watching her expression soften.
There was something satisfying about knowing both women wanted my attention.
Ava was intelligent and composed.
Celine was passionate and determined.
And somehow, both of them were fighting for me.
I couldn’t help the small smile that crossed my face. O

We drove home later with Anaya asleep in the back seat.
Since she was still too young to transform, there was no question of letting her run home in wolf form.
When we stepped inside, however, something immediately felt wrong.
The house was quiet.
Too quiet.
I looked around.
Ava.
Nothing.
My brows drew together. Hadn’t I told her to wait for me?
I pulled out my phone. Maybe she’d gone upstairs. Maybe she’d stepped outside. I was about to call her when something tugged at my trouser leg.
I looked down.
Anaya stood there, staring up at me with wide, uncertain eyes.
“Uncle…”
I crouched. “What is it?”
She glanced toward the empty hallway. “Aunt isn’t here.”

Lfollowed her gaze, my fingers tightening around my phone. Then she looked back at me.
“Can I call you Dad now?”
The question landed somewhere deep inside me. For a moment, I couldn’t answer.
I slipped my phone back into my pocket and bent down, lifting her into my arms.
“Of course.”
Her tiny arms immediately went around my neck.
“It’s just the three of us here now.” I brushed a strand of hair away from her damp cheek. “You can call me Dad all you want.”
Her face brightened.
But my eyes drifted toward the empty hallway again.
Ava was gone.
And I had no idea where she had gone.

Luna Auri looked stunned for a moment, and judging by the way several people nearby had turned toward us, she wasn’t the only one caught off guard.
But no one looked more shocked than Celine.
Her face had gone completely pale, her eyes wide with a mixture of disbelief and terror. If I hadn’t
already known that she and Logan were lovers pretending to be siblings, I might have missed the
meaning behind that expression.
Almost.
Logan’s hands were still resting on my shoulders, but suddenly, I couldn’t stand the feeling of them
there.
Maybe once upon a time, having my mate touch me in front of everyone would have made my heart
race. Maybe I would have treasured even the smallest gesture from him.
Not anymore.
There was no secret mating between us that needed to be acknowledged tonight. Logan had never
publicly claimed me as his mate or his Luna, so I saw no reason to suddenly play the part now.
I calmly lifted his hands from my shoulders and stepped away from him.
His eyebrows twitched in surprise. A flash of annoyance crossed his face before he quickly smoothed
it away.
I didn’t care.
If anything, watching Celine squirm was far more satisfying.
“Hmm…” Luna Auri finally broke the silence, her gaze sweeping over me with open curiosity. “I never expected Alpha Logan’s mate to be such a stunning beauty. Alpha Logan really has the heart to leave her here alone in a place like this.”
The moment she said it, Logan cleared his throat.
He looked almost embarrassed.
“I’m because-”
“Because I’m not my mate’s date tonight,” I cut in smoothly.

“I came here alone because I wanted the opportunity to discuss pack cooperation with you. In fact, I didn’t even have an invitation.
A few murmurs rose from the people around us.
I ignored them.
“My mate only had one invitation, and he could bring only one female companion.” I gestured toward Celine. “And naturally, he brought his sister, Ms. Celine.”
I made sure to put just enough emphasis on the word sister.
Luna Auri’s eyebrows rose.
A flicker of amusement passed through her eyes, followed by something sharper.
Interest.
She was beginning to understand.
I wondered how I had been blind to it for so many years. Perhaps it had been easier because Celine had never stayed around the pack long enough for me to notice the little things. Or perhaps I had simply trusted Logan too much.
Either way, that woman standing beside him had just been introduced to everyone as his sister.
And now everyone was looking at her differently.
“He brought his sister to the gathering instead of his mate?”
“I think I’ve heard of Celine. Isn’t she the adopted daughter of the Silvercrest family?”
The whispers grew louder.
Logan’s jaw tightened.
He stepped toward me and grabbed my arms, his fingers digging into my skin beneath the pressure. His nails nearly broke the surface, but with half the gathering watching us, he forced his expression
into something resembling calm.
“What are you saying?” he demanded through clenched teeth. “It’s because you’re always busy with
work. You should have told me earlier.”

I already knew where this conversation was heading.
So instead of arguing, I simply shrugged his hands off.
Then I turned back to Luna Auri.

“Don’t worry.” Her smile widened. “I’m very interested. I’ll contact you after I’ve spoken with my mate.”
She extended her hand toward me.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you tonight, Ava… Oh.” She paused, her expression suddenly apologetic. “I
should address you as Luna. Pardon me.”
I shook my head.
“It’s okay. Ava is fine.”
The title no longer meant anything to me.
I had once dreamed of being Logan’s Luna.
Now, I couldn’t even bring myself to care about the word.
“I’ll contact you again, then.”
Luna Auri gave me one final smile before turning away.
She didn’t spare Logan or Celine another glance.
Two warriors immediately stepped forward and fell into position beside her as she walked away with
the effortless grace of someone who knew exactly who she was.
The night had grown darker, the clouds swallowing what little moonlight there was, but I found myself smiling as I watched her disappear into the distance.
One by one, people began leaving with their mates.
Beside me, Logan looked furious.
Celine looked as though she was still trying to recover from a shock she hadn’t seen coming.
Then Logan turned toward her.
“Celine, why don’t you go home first?”

Her head snapped up.
“What?”
“And what about you?”
“I have something to discuss with my mate. Alone.”
The moment the word mate left his mouth, Celine’s expression changed.
Her eyes narrowed as she looked at me.
If looks could kill, I probably wouldn’t have made it through the night.
“I don’t want to go alone.”
She rushed toward Logan and wrapped both hands around his arm.
For a second, I expected him to let her.
Instead, he shook her off.
“Stop messing around. This has nothing to do with you. Go home.”
Celine froze.
“What did you say?”
Her eyes widened in disbelief.
Even I was surprised.
Logan had slapped me for her.
He had humiliated me for her.
He had chosen her over me.
And now he was ordering her to leave?
I folded my arms and watched the scene unfold with a smile tugging at my lips.
Celine stared at him for several seconds before finally turning away.
She stormed off, her footsteps sharp against the ground.
I waited until she was gone before heading toward Logan’s car.

Lhad barcly reached the door when his voice stopped me.
“What exactly do you think you were doing tonight?”
I paused.
Then slowly turned around.
Logan strode toward me, his expression dark.
“What do you mean?” I asked innocently. “What was wrong with me tonight?”
His frustration exploded.
“You came to this gathering without telling me, embarrassed me in front of everyone, and then announced our private business to the entire pack! What exactly are you trying to accomplish?”
His hands closed around my shoulders again.
This time, his nails dug painfully into my skin.
I refused to flinch.
I refused to give him the satisfaction.
I simply stared at him until his anger faltered.
Something shifted in his expression when he noticed my face.
His hands loosened.
Then he released me completely.
“I’m sorry. I just…”
“Whatever, Logan.”
I turned away, opened the car door, and climbed inside.
For a moment, he stood there,
Then, with a frustrated sigh, he got in beside me.
The driver glanced between us, waiting for instructions.
“Drive,” I said.
The car pulled away.

Leould feel Logan’s stare burning into the side of my face, but I refused to acknowledge him.
Instead, I looked through the window.
“Just so you know, Mistfen Pack specializes in healers, herbs, and medicinal plants. They’re one of the strongest packs wolves travel to when they need treatment, even if they’re from outside their territory.”
Logan remained silent.
“Many wolves travel there specifically because of their healers. By speaking with Luna Auri tonight, I
made her aware that our pack has similar strengths.”
I finally glanced at him.
“That gives us an opportunity to establish a relationship with them. If their healers ever become
overwhelmed, she could recommend our pack to wolves who need treatment. It could bring more
alliances, more influence, and more opportunities for our pack.”
Silence.
Logan stared at me.
He looked like he wanted to argue, but couldn’t find a single thing to say.
He should be speechless, Karla murmured inside me, her voice carrying that familiar hint of
satisfaction.
I almost smiled.
“I didn’t want our pack to miss an opportunity to grow because of something as irrelevant as tonight’s
gathering.”
Logan blinked.
Then his mouth opened.
Closed.
Finally, he muttered, “Wow.”
I raised an eyebrow.
“I didn’t know you had that kind of insight.”
You don’t know a lot about me, I thought.
But I kept it to myself.

“Ava,” he said quietly. “Next time, you need to tell me about something like this beforehand. I wouldn’t have brought Celine if I’d known.”
I said nothing.
“She’s just my sister,” he continued, his voice steady. “You’re my mate.”
He said it with such absolute certainty that, for a second, it almost sounded believable.
Wow, Karla drawled inside my head. He is really good at lying.
A small smile touched my lips.
Thankfully, I had driven to Moonshade Pack for my birthday before.
Otherwise, I might have actually fallen for that affectionate smile.
Logan reached for my hand.
I noticed the movement immediately.
Before his fingers could touch mine, I pulled my hand back and folded it into my lap.
His eyes dropped to it.
Then slowly returned to my face.
He noticed.
But, surprisingly, he didn’t push.
The car continued down the dark road, the silence between us growing heavier with every passing
second.
Neither of us said another word.
