AVA’S POINT OF VIEW

I listened to what he had to say, though, if I was being honest, my attention had drifted long ago.
The seminar had been going on for hours. Most of the Alphas who had attended with their Lunas had
already left to prepare for the evening banquet
It was mostly the women who changed into formal attire while the men remained in what they were
already wearing. It had been a tradition among packs for years.
Not that I cared.
I hadn’t come here for traditions.
I had only agreed to come because there was someone I needed to meet. If not for that, I never would
have accepted Beatrice’s invitation.
“Ava, aren’t you going to change your clothes?”
I looked at Celine without the slightest reaction.
Change into what?
The answer must have been written all over my face because her lips curled into a smug smile.
“So you didn’t know the seminar ends with a lavish banquet?” she mocked. “Well… that makes sense.
You didn’t even have an invitation.”
I knew.
Of course I knew.
My goal was Luna Auri of Mistfen Pack.
Mistfen Pack was renowned throughout the werewolf territories for its healers and medicinal herbs. Wolves traveled from neighboring packs seeking their treatments, and their remedies were said to
surpass even those of our pack.
Winning Luna Auri’s favor meant gaining access to one of the strongest healing alliances in the
region.
“Logan specially commissioned my dress for tonight,” Celine continued proudly, smoothing invisible wrinkles from her gown. “He even hired the most famous designer in Ashen Fang Pack.”

Her eyes swept over my business attire before she laughed softly.
“But you don’t even have a dress, Ava.”
She tilted her head.
“Are you seriously planning to attend the banquet like that?”
I glanced down at my neatly pressed suit before looking back at her.
“I’m dressed appropriately.”
My gaze drifted around the room where several other women still wore formal business outfits instead
of gowns.
“Besides…” I said calmly. “Why don’t you ask them if they’re embarrassed?”
“What?”
Celine’s face flushed crimson.
Just as she opened her mouth to argue, a staff member approached.
“Excuse me, ma’am.”
He bowed politely.
“Would you please come with me?”
I frowned slightly.
Me?
I hadn’t arranged anything.
Beatrice certainly hadn’t mentioned this.
Karla stirred beneath my skin, her ears twitching with quiet curiosity.
Something’s different, she murmured.
Maybe.
Or maybe it was just another misunderstanding.
Either way, staying here meant listening to Celine for another minute.
I chose the easier option and followed the staff member.

Lhadn’t gone very far before familiar voices drifted behind me.
“Where’s Ava?” Logan asked. “I could’ve sworn I heard her.”

“She was kicked out by the staff.”
“What?”
Surprise flashed through his voice.
Celine scoffed.
“It’s for the best. She doesn’t even have a dress. If she showed up at the banquet, she’d only
embarrass you.”
She paused before adding with a dismissive laugh.
“Besides, she’s always been ignorant and incompetent. What if she says something inappropriate and
offends one of the powerful packs? She’d ruin Silvercrest’s reputation.”
A brief silence followed.
Then Logan spoke.
“…You’re right.”
His voice was steady.
“This kind of occasion is meant for powerful wolves.”
“It isn’t suitable for her.”
Something inside my chest tightened.
Karla let out a low, wounded growl.
It wasn’t loud.
Just enough for me to feel the ache ripple through our bond.
Mate…
Her voice was quieter this time.
Hurt.
I closed my eyes for a brief second before forcing the pain aside.

“He made his choice,” I whispered inwardly.
Karla fell silent.

I straightened my shoulders and continued after the staff member without looking back.
By the time Logan and Celine arrived, I was already speaking with Lurta Auri.
She was nothing like the intimidating woman the rumors described..
Warm laughter danced in her amber eyes as we discussed herbs, healing roots, and the differences between our packs.
Then the conversation paused.
I followed Luna Auri’s gaze toward the entrance.
Two familiar figures had stopped dead in their tracks.
Logan.
Celine.
For a moment, neither of them moved.
“…She wasn’t kicked out?” Logan said quietly.
A smile tugged at the corner of my lips.
Not mocking.
Simply amused.
I’d changed.
The sapphire-blue gown flowed around me like liquid moonlight, its strapless neckline accentuating my shoulders while the fitted silhouette hugged every graceful curve before cascading elegantly to the floor.
Every stitch spoke of extraordinary craftsmanship.
The sapphire jewelry resting against my skin shimmered beneath the crystal lights, each gemstone catching the glow before scattering it across the ballroom like fragments of stars.
Necklace.

An entire matching set.
Even the strongest packs would hesitate before displaying jewelry of that caliber so casually.
I remembered the dressing suite the staff had led me into.
It hadn’t been a changing room.
It had been an entire private salon.
Rows upon rows of exquisite gowns filled polished wardrobes, while display cases held enough jewelry to rival a royal treasury.
The staff had explained that the garments were prepared for distinguished guests who arrived without
formal wear.
Yet I hadn’t been the only woman without a gown.
Still…
I had been the only one escorted there.
Karla lifted her head proudly.
See?
A faint smile tugged at my lips.
Logan couldn’t take his eyes off me. The disbelief on his face slowly melted into stunned admiration, his gaze lingering far longer than it should have, as though he’d forgotten everyone else around him.
Beside him, Celine noticed.
Her smile faltered. Her jaw tightened, and without warning, she drove the heel of her shoe down onto Logan’s foot.
He flinched and finally looked away.
The irritation in his eyes wasn’t from the pain.
It was from the scene she had just created.

Making a spectacle of herself in front of Luna Auri was the height of poor etiquette.
Especially when Luna Auri stood alone tonight.
Her Alpha hadn’t attended the seminar.

The Alpha of Mistfen Pack rarely appeared outside his own territory. His strength was legendary, and their pack kept largely to themselves, making their true standing among the regions something few wolves could accurately measure.
Recovering quickly, Logan plastered on a diplomatic smile and stepped forward.
“Luna Auri.”
He inclined his head respectfully before offering his card.
“I am Alpha Logan of Silvercrest Pack. It’s an honor to finally meet you.”
Then…
Without asking.
Without warning.
His arm slid around my shoulders possessively.
A smile spread across his face.
“This,” he announced proudly, “is my mate.”
His grip tightened ever so slightly.
“Luna Ava.”
