Chapter 15
AVA’S POINT OF VIEW
It wasn’t that I wanted to leave the house.
I simply remembered that Logan didn’t control me anymore.
And, more importantly, I was hungry.

It was already past midnight, but I knew a restaurant on the edge of the territory that usually stayed open this late. The thought of a hot plate of steak and meat was enough to make my stomach rumble.
Maybe sneaking out for food wouldn’t hurt.
By the way, he could go out and get his mistress and their daughter, then expect me to stay home and wait for him like the dutiful mate he’d always pictured me to be. I scoffed.
I shifted into my wolf, feeling the familiar rush of power course through my body. My senses sharpened almost instantly-the darkness becoming clearer, every distant sound reaching my ears
with startling precision.
Five minutes later, I was standing outside the restaurant.
The lights were still on.
I had already crossed out of the pack’s territory, and a few security guards had noticed me along the way, but none of them dared question me. I slowed as I approached the restaurant, peering through
the windows.
It looked almost deserted.
Exactly as I expected.
I shifted back into my human form and glanced around before pushing open the door.
They were probably preparing everything for the morning rush, but apparently, that didn’t mean they had closed for the night.
I had barely taken a step inside when something caught my attention.
Or someone.
A man stood near the entrance.
Even beneath the dim lights, there was no mistaking how striking he was. He stood completely still,

dressed from head to toe in black, his presence somehow making the empty restaurant feel smaller.
Then I felt it.
That aura.
That same overwhelming presence Thad encountered before.
My steps slowed.
Beside him sat a sleek black car, and two enormous wolves stood guard nearby. Their eyes followed
my every movement, their bodies tense and alert.
He wasn’t in his wolf form.
His security was.
Interesting.
I didn’t need anyone to tell me who he was.
Alpha Lucian.
A small smile tugged at my lips.
Running into him at this hour, in a nearly deserted restaurant, felt strangely impossible. Alpha Lucian hardly struck me as the kind of person who would wander into a place like this after midnight for a
meal.
Yet there he was.
His eyes suddenly glowed.
The sharpness in his gaze seemed to cut straight through the darkness, pinning me in place as I
walked toward him.
I stopped in front of him.
“I’m here because I’m hungry.”
His answer was so blunt that I couldn’t help smiling.
“That’s perfect. I’m hungry too.” I glanced around the empty restaurant before looking back at him. “It’s quite a coincidence that we’d run into each other in a place like this.”
Even as the words left my mouth, something in my instincts whispered that this wasn’t a coincidence
at all.

His gaze deepened.
He said nothing.

He simply stared at me with that unreadable expression, and after a few seconds, I became strangely aware of myself standing there.
I cleared my throat.
“Would you like to eat together?”
I wanted to know what an Alpha like him was doing here this late at night, especially in a restaurant
that was practically empty.
I waited.
He didn’t answer.
The silence stretched between us until I started regretting asking in the first place.
His expression remained completely impassive.
Then, without saying a word, he stepped aside.
I blinked.
Right.
I gave a small nod, swallowing my embarrassment.
“Oh. Thank you.”
Then I walked inside.
I was starving, anyway.
I chose a chair beside the enormous tinted glass window, where I couldnt see the darkened street
outside. A moment later, I heard footsteps behind me.
Lucian followed.
He walked toward the counter without saying anything. I couldn’t hear what he ordered, but after a few minutes, he returned carrying two bottles.
He sat across from me, his face as unreadable as ever. Without a word, he pushed one of the bottles
across the table.

Liesked down.
Freez Mix. Lemon and mint.
My favorite flavor.
Slowly, I lifted my eyes to him.
“You like lemon and mint too?”
He gave a small nod.

Before I could say anything else, he reached for the bottle and twisted the cap open for me.
I stared at him.
Was he serious?
Amusement and exasperation battled across my face.
Since the first time we’d met, Lucian had barely spoken more than a handful of words to me.
Everything about him was straightforward, controlled, almost painfully reserved.
Yet somehow, he had ordered a drink for me.
Opened the bottle.
And now he was sitting across from me as though none of it was unusual.
My curiosity only grew.
I picked up my phone and scanned the QR code on the table scrolling through the menu while trying
not to stare at him.
Once I found what I wanted, I called one of the staff members over.
“Let’s make something clear first.” I looked at Lucian. “This meal is on me. Thank you for helping me
before.”
His eyes met mine.
Calm. Unreadable,
“No need. I’ve already placed the order.”
I froze.
“You already-”

Before I could finish, the waiter arrived and placed a plate in front of me.
I looked down.
Steak.
My mouth practically watered at the sight. I stared at it for a moment before lifting try eyes back to
Lucian.
How did he know I like steak?
“How do-”
His deep voice cut me off.
“I guessed.”
He gestured toward the wall behind me.
“Steak is one of the specialties of this restaurant.”
I turned.
Sure enough, several large flyers advertising the restaurant’s steak dishes were plastered across the
wall.
“Oh.”
I looked back at him.
“That makes sense.”
It did.
Technically.
But something still felt strange.
Because how had he managed to get both things right?
The lemon-and-mint Freez Mix.
The steak.
And when I glanced at the table in front of him, I saw the exact same meal sitting there.
My eyebrows lifted.

Nyx had complained more than once about how strange my food combinations were. Apparently, I had finally found someone whose taste was just as questionable as mine.
A small laugh almost escaped me.
I looked at Lucian again.
For the first time, the unfamiliarity between us seemed to fade.
There was something strangely familiar about him.
Something I couldn’t quite put my finger on.
And sitting across from him in the quiet restaurant, sharing the same strange preferences, I found myself wondering if I knew him before.
