AVA’S POINT OF VIEW
He picked up his fork and began to eat.
Quietly. Calmly. As though nothing about the situation bothered him.

I stared at him for a moment, almost expecting him to push his plate away untouched. Instead, he cut
into his steak with unhurried precision and brought a piece to his mouth.
Apparently, he was hungry after all.
I finally reached for my own fork, stabbed a piece of steak, and popped it into my mouth. As I chewed, my gaze drifted back to him.
There was something almost unnervingly composed about the way Lucian ate. Every movement was
measured. His back remained straight, his clothes untouched by even the smallest stain, and he handled his utensils with such effortless precision that I found myself wondering if he’d been taught
table manners before he’d even learned to walk.
Even from across the table, I could catch the faint, expensive scent clinging to him..
Everything about him seemed neat.
Controlled.
Quiet.
As we continued eating, Lucian was the one who finally broke the silence.
“Why did you stop working on the collaboration project with Alpha Kion?”
My lips curved into a small smile. There was a flicker of amusement in my eyes as I rested
against my plate.

“Would you like to hear the truth or a lie?” I asked.
For a moment, his hand stopped.
Then his gaze lifted to mine.
“I’ll take everything you tell me as the truth.”
I blinked.
That wasn’t the answer I’d expected.

For someone who carried himself with such coldness, Lucian was surprisingly eloquent when he
chose to speak.
“It’s just that my mate didn’t want to continue working with Alpha Kion’s pack after Alpha Kion made an unpleasant remark about him.”
“Alpha Lucian, right?”
“Right.”
He gave a small nod.
“Understood.”
I stared at him.
Understood?
That was it?
No interrogation. No judgment. Not even a single follow-up question.
He simply accepted my answer.
I found myself studying him again, trying to figure out what went on behind that unreadable
expression.
He was too… understanding.
Too calm.
I said nothing more and watched him reach for his drink. He took a slow sip before setting the glass
down. He hadn’t finished his steak, either, and even that somehow looked deliberate rather than
careless.
The longer I watched him, the more convinced I became that he’d been raised under strict
expectations.
It wasn’t only the way he ate.
It was the way he carried himself. The way he spoke. The way he seemed to notice everything without reacting to much of anything.
I’d
grown up around wealthy people. I knew what polished manners looked like.
But Lucian was different.

There was something almost instinctive about his composure, as though discipline had been woven into him so deeply that he didn’t even have to think about it.
“What’s wrong?”
His voice pulled me out of my thoughts.
I realized I’d been staring.
“Nothing.”
I quickly shook my head.
His eyes lingered on me for another second before he glanced at my barely touched plate.
“Are you full? If not, i can order something else.”
“I’m okay.”
I gave him a small smile.
He nodded.
“Well… it’s getting late. Shall we leave?”
“Okay.”
By now, I was beginning to get used to his sparing use of words.
It wasn’t until I stepped outside the restaurant that I realized it was raining.
And not just raining.
It was pouring.
The summer night sky had turned pitch-black, and sheets of rain crashed against the pavement,
blurring the streetlights into hazy golden smudges.
I stopped beneath the restaurant’s awning and stared helplessly at the downpour,
I hadn’t brought an umbrella.
Great.
Standing beside me, Lucian seemed completely unbothered. The cool night air carried the scent of rain, and every now and then, a stray drop found its way beneath the awning and landed against my
skin.

Despite the weather, there was something strangely peaceful about standing there.
Perhaps it was because Lucian was beside me.
Or perhaps I was simply relieved to be somewhere far away from Logan.
I glanced sideways at him.
His deep eyes swept across the parking lot before narrowing slightly. He seemed to be searching for something-or someone.
When he found neither of the two wolves who had been guarding him earlier, his expression changed
almost imperceptibly.
He muttered something under his breath before turning toward me.
Then, without a word, he gently took hold of my arms and guided me farther beneath the awning,
putting more distance between me and the rain.
“My car is parked over there.”
His deep voice barely rose above the roar of the rain.
I followed his gaze.
A black vehicle was parked a short distance away,
It suddenly clicked.
He was offering me a ride.
“That’ll just trouble you.”
I didn’t bother pretending otherwise.
There was no point standing beneath the awning until morning, and running back to the pack in that
weather would leave me drenched before I made it halfway there.
So I followed him.
We stayed beneath the narrow shelter of the awnings for as long as we could, moving quickly whenever the path opened between buildings. Every few steps, Lucian glanced over his shoulder to
make sure I was still behind him.
Soon, we reached his car.
Black.

Somehow, it suited him perfectly.
Lucian reached for the door handle, but before opening it, he turned and extended his hand toward me.
I paused.
For a second, I simply stared at it.
Then I looked at him.
He said nothing, only waited.
I placed my hand in his and stepped into the car.
The simple gesture stirred an unexpected memory.
Logan.
For years, Logan had insisted that I was the only person allowed to sit in the passenger seat of his car.
Yet, in four years of marriage, he had never once opened the door for me.
Not once.
And that passenger seat he’d supposedly reserved for me?
It had long since belonged to Celine.
A bitter smile tugged at my lips.
I pushed the thought away and settled into the seat.
Lucian walked around to the driver’s side and got in.
“Where do you stay?”
He started the engine.
I glanced at him, slightly surprised.
I’d assumed he’d have a driver.
But there was no one else in the car.

Which made me wonder….
Where had those two wolves gone?
“I’m not going home.”
The words had barely left my mouth when silence settled over the car.
Only the rhythmic sweep of the windshield wipers disturbed it.
Once.
Twice.
Again.
Lucian slowly turned his head toward me.
I caught his gaze and immediately realized how my words might sound at this hour.
A woman sitting alone in a man’s car after midnight, saying she wasn’t going home.
Wonderful.
I quickly opened my mouth to explain.
“I meant-”
“How about…”
His voice cut gently through mine.
He looked at me for a moment before finishing.
“Coming to my place?”
