AVA’S POINT OF VIEW
Because of that, I resumed my duties as Luna.
It was easier to lose myself in reports, patrol schedules, and welfare requests than to dwell on the
ache that had quietly settled inside my chest. My wolf preferred it that way too. Every time my thoughts drifted toward Logan, she retreated deeper into herself, wounded but too proud to whine.
When that messenger informed me that Alpha Kion of the Celestial Pack wished to meet with me, I
was a little surprised.
I had met Alpha Kion a handful of times during regional gatherings, but we were hardly acquaintances.
Our packs maintained a respectful alliance, nothing more. We certainly weren’t close enough for him
to specifically request a meeting with me.
Still, refusing wasn’t an option.
At exactly two in the afternoon, I made my way to the conference hall where neighboring Alphas
usually held discussions with our pack. The heavy oak doors swung open, and the familiar scent of
cedarwood and polished leather greeted me.
Alpha Kion was already seated.
Logan wasn’t.
My eyes lingered on the empty chair that should have belonged to my mate before shifting to the two
men seated beside Alpha Kion.
One was his Beta.
The other…
I had never seen him before.
The moment my gaze landed on him, my wolf stiffened beneath my skin.
Danger.
The warning rippled through our bond before I could stop it.
He wasn’t doing anything. He simply sat there in complete silence, one gloved hand resting lazily against the armrest, yet the room seemed to revolve around him. His expression remained unreadable, carved from stone, while an invisible pressure rolled off him in slow, suffocating waves.

An Alpha aura.
Not merely strong.
Dominating.
Even Alpha Kion’s commanding presence seemed muted beside him.

He wore the same tailored black coat as Alpha Kion, yet somehow it looked entirely different on him. It
wasn’t the clothes that made the man intimidating-it was the man who made the clothes look
dangerous. The sharp lines of the suit couldn’t conceal the raw aggression lurking beneath his
composed exterior.
For one embarrassing second, I actually wondered if breathing any louder would draw his attention.
Keeping my expression calm, I crossed the room and took the seat opposite them.
Only then did I truly look at him.
His features were almost unreal.
A sharp jawline, perfectly sculpted cheekbones, dark brows, and eyes so cold they reminded me of
winter nights beneath a full moon. There wasn’t a single flaw on his face, yet it wasn’t his appearance
that unsettled me.
It was his eyes.
They looked like they had witnessed countless battles… and won every single one.
Compared to him, Logan’s handsome face suddenly felt ordinary, and the realization caught me
completely off guard.
Strange.
For a fleeting moment, he looked familiar, as though I’d seen those eyes somewhere before, but the
memory slipped away before I could grasp it.
Perhaps I’d passed him during one of the regional gatherings years ago.
Our gazes met.
The impact was immediate.
My wolf shrank instinctively while my own heart stumbled inside my chest.
I broke eye contact first.

“Alpha Kion,” I greeted with a polite smile as I extended my hand. “Thank you for taking the time to
visit our pack.
He shook it warmly
“The pleasure is ours, Luna Ava. We appreciate the opportunity to strengthen relations between our
packs.”
His eyes flickered toward the silent man beside him, catching my curiosity almost instantly.
“I suppose introductions are in order.”
He gestured toward the man.
“This is Alpha Lucian… Alpha of the Blackwood Pack.”
Blackwood.
The name alone was enough to make my pulse skip.
Every Alpha on the continent had heard of Blackwood.
A pack so powerful that most conflicts ended before anyone dared challenge them. A territory known for producing warriors feared across the regions.
And standing before me…
Was their Alpha.
Lucian inclined his head ever so slightly.
“Pleasure to meet you, Luna Ava.”
His voice caught me off guard.
Deep.
Smooth.
Controlled.
It carried none of the arrogance I’d expected from someone whose reputation bordered on legendary.
I extended my hand.
“Likewise.”
To my surprise, he rose to his feet instead of simply reaching across the table.

Only then did I realize how impossibly tall he was.

His shadow swallowed the space between us as his large hand wrapped around mine in a firm but respectful handshake.
Warm.
Steady.
My wolf stirred uneasily beneath my skin.
He released me after only a second and resumed his seat as though nothing unusua! had happened.
For reasons I couldn’t explain…
I remained slightly stunned.
The meeting itself focused on trade routes, hunting territories, medicinal herbs, and resource
exchanges between our packs. Alpha Kion handled most of the conversation while Alpha Lucian
spoke only when necessary, but every time he did, the room naturally fell silent to listen.
The Beta sat in silence, a shadow in the room. He watched, he did not speak. He did not intervene. It
was as though he had never been there at all.
Logan never came.
Not once.
Not even a message explaining his absence.
As the meeting finally ended, I retrieved my phone.
Several missed notifications waited for me.
Only one was from Logan.
~My mother wants us over for dinner tonight. Go straight there after your meeting.~
Nothing else.
No apology.
No explanation.
Just another instruction.
I slipped my phone back into my purse and turned toward the exit.

Before I could reach the door, someone stepped into my path.
I looked up.
Alpha Lucian.

Standing this close, his Alpha scent was impossible to ignore-pine forests after rain mixed with something darker, something undeniably wild. My wolf shifted restlessly beneath my skin, unusually alert in his presence.
“Alpha Lucian?”
Without a word, he pulled out his phone.
“Your number.”
Not a request.
A command.
I blinked.
For a heartbeat, I almost asked why.
Then common sense prevailed.
Rejecting one of the strongest Alphas in the region over something as harmless as exchanging
contact information would be foolish. Maintaining connections between powerful packs was part of
my responsibility as Luna.
A polite smile curved my lips.
“Of course.”
We exchanged numbers, and once it was done, I naturally expected him to step aside so I could leave.
He didn’t.
Instead, he remained where he was, his dark eyes resting on me with an intensity that made the air
between us feel oddly still.
“Do you have plans tonight?”
I blinked. “Hm?”
“I’d like you to have dinner with me.”

The invitation landed so effortlessly, se confidently, that it caught me completely off guard.
For a heartbeat, my mind went blank.
I simply stared at him, searching his face for any hint that he was joking.
There wasn’t one.
I’d expected many things from Alpha Lucian.
Directly asking a mated Luna to dinner wasn’t one of them.
“I’m sorry,” I said with an apologetic smile. “I already have dinner plans.”
Silence.
His expression didn’t change.
Not even slightly.
“My mother-in-law invited us over tonight.”
Those icy eyes studied me for another long moment.
No disappointment.
No frustration.
Nothing.
In truth, this wasn’t the first time another Alpha, Beta or unmated wolf had invited me to lunch or dinner despite the silver mating mark resting against my neck. Some ignored it out of confidence.
Others out of arrogance.
I always declined politely.
Most walked away disappointed.
Alpha Lucian simply nodded once.
“I see.”
That was all.
No persuasion.
No questions.

No visible reaction whatsoever.
“If there’s nothing else…”
He stepped aside.
“You may go.”
I offered him one last polite smile before leaving the conference hall.

By the time I reached Logan’s mother’s house, the last traces of sunlight had faded, leaving the world wrapped in the quiet darkness of night.
Warm lights spilled through the windows, carrying the rich scent of roasted meat into the cool evening
air.
As soon as I stepped inside, I found everyone already seated around the dining table.
Logan.
His mother, Isla.
Celine.
Naya.
They were halfway through dinner.
“Ava!” Isla exclaimed with a smile that never quite reached her eyes. “You’re finally here.”
My wolf flattened her ears.
Fake.
Everything about that smile felt fake.
“You’ve worked so hard today,” she continued sweetly. “Go wash your hands, then bring your plate
from the kitchen. Logan told me you love steak more than turkey, so I made your favorite just for you.
My steps slowed.
For a brief second, I simply stared at her.
Steak.
My favorite.
Logan knew that.

Yet not once…
Not once had she ever prepared it for me.
Not on my birthdays.
Not during holidays.
Not even after becoming Luna.
So why now?
Especially after I’d collected such a significant amount from the pack’s emergency funds.
Instead of anger…
She welcomed me with my favorite meal.
A cold knot twisted in my stomach.
My wolf lifted her head, every instinct suddenly on edge.
Something wasn’t right.
