Without drawing attention to myself, I pulled out my phone and sent a quick message.
If Ava was so determined to change her clothes and come running back to this celebration, desperate to prove how dedicated she was, then I would gladly let her enjoy herself.
For now.
A sinister smile flickered across my lips before disappearing.
The atmosphere inside the packhouse remained lively, although Ava continued to draw most of the
attention.
I didn’t care.
Not anymore.
Because I knew what was coming.
And I had been waiting for it.
“What kind of junk is this? You dare try to fool us? Do you think we’ve never seen anything like this
before?!”
A sharp voice suddenly cut through the crowd.
I turned toward the sound.
Perfect.
A female guest stood near one of the tables, glaring furiously at the produets displayed before her.
Logan immediately stepped forward.
“Is there a problem?”
His voice changed instantly.
It was deeper now. More authoritative.
The voice of an Alpha.
“There is a huge problem.”

The woman snatched up one of the herbs, holding it up for everyone to see.
“This is expired.”
A smile almost escaped me.
Almost.
Instead, I covered it by taking another sip of wine.

“These healers are trying to rob us!” she continued loudly. “They’re selling expired herbs to people!”
Murmurs immediately erupted around the packhouse.
Before Logan could respond, I quietly moved closer to him.
“That woman is Mire,” I whispered. “She’s from Valek Pack. I heard she came here specifically to check out the herbs.”
Logan’s expression darkened.
“None of the herbs in this pack are expired,” he said firmly. “You must have made a mistake.”
Mire’s eyes narrowed.
“I don’t make mistakes.”
She held out her arm.
“I tried rubbing one of the ointments on my skin, and I immediately developed a rash.”
The crowd grew quieter.
“And this came from the same set,” Mire continued. “Who knows what these herbs might do to me?”
Logan closed his eyes briefly.
I could practically see him swallowing his anger.
He couldn’t afford to lose his temper.
Not here.
Not when people were watching.
His pack needed this event to succeed. It needed a good reputation.
“This ointment and these herbs were tested before they were brought here,” Logan said, his voice

controlled. “Perhaps you have an allergy to one of the ingredients, but I know it cannot be caused by a defective product.”
“So now you’re blaming me?”
“I am not blaming you.”
The tension between them thickened as Axel stepped forward.
I remained where I was, watching everything unfold with quiet satisfaction. D
Wasn’t this Ava’s project?
Didn’t she care so much about proving herself?
Then let her deal with this.
I wanted this project to fail.
No.
I needed it to fail.
I didn’t want them to sell a single herb or ointment today.
Mire and I went way back.
She was from Mooncrest Pack-the pack I had lived in before-and I knew exactly what kind of
she was.
Mire was arrogant, loud, and domineering.
Whenever she decided to cause a scene, people listened.
And once people became suspicious, fear did the rest of the work for her,
Customers would leave.
The herbs would remain unsold.
And Ava?
Ava would have to stand there and watch her precious project collapse.
For once, she wouldn’t be able to walk around with that irritating confidence of hers.
For once, she would fail in front of Logan.

In front of his family.
In front of everyone.
My plan was perfect.

And, at first, everything unfolded exactly as I had imagined.
Pack members began whispering amongst themselves.
Some placed the herbs they had been holding back on the tables.
Others took a few cautious steps away.
They didn’t want to take any risks.
Not with their money.
I knew the members of this pack.
They were careful about how they spent.
Unlike the richer packs, money didn’t flow easily here. They weren’t the type to throw their hard-earned
coins at something they weren’t completely sure about.
I could almost taste victory.
Then something changed.
People stopped moving toward the exit.
My smile faded.
Everyone had turned toward the front of the room.
And there she was.
Ava stood with her arms folded across her chest, a frown settling across her face.
I stared at her.
Now where is she going with this? Runa muttered.
My lips pressed into a thin line.
Ava’s confidence was beginning to annoy me.
Actually, everything about her annoyed me.

The way she somehow managed to act like she was better than everyone else without even trying.
And that blue gown.
I hated it.
I hated the way it made her stand out.
I hated the way it moved around her body.
Most of all, I hated the fact that Logan had called her beautiful.
Ava picked up one of the ointment containers and slowly turned it between her fingers.
Then she faced the crowd.
“Some of you might be wondering whether this can cause an allergic reaction,” she began. “But this
ointment was specifically formulated with wolves in mind.”
She opened the container, allowing its faint herbal scent to drift through the air.
“The ointment is free from artificial fragrances, harsh chemicals, and unnecessary additives that could
irritate sensitive skin. Everything used in it comes from carefully selected natural ingredients.”
Her fingers tightened slightly around the container.
“The herbs were chosen specifically for their healing properties. Lavender helps soothe irritated skin,
aloe vera provides moisture and helps relieve inflammation, while calendula supports the skin’s
natural healing process.”
She looked around the room.
“Wolves have stronger healing abilities than humans, but that doesn’t mean our skin can’t react badly
to the wrong ingredients. That’s why an ointment like this has to be gentle.”
The entire room was listening now.
I hated it.
I hated that she had everyone’s attention again.
“It shouldn’t interfere with the body’s natural healing process,” Ava continued. “It should support it.

A small, confident smile touched her lips.
“And that’s exactly what this does.”
Silence followed.
I watched the crowd carefully.
Their expressions were uncertain.
Good.
Exactly what I expected.
They were thinking about it.
Calculating the risk.
And knowing them, that was enough to make them walk away.
A slow smile began spreading across my face again.
Just a few more minutes.
That was all I needed.
No one would say anything.
No one would buy anything.
And eventually, one by one, they would turn around and leave.
My smile widened.
Then someone spoke.
“I’d like to buy the entire set of herbs.”
My smile froze.
For a second, I wondered if I had heard wrong.
Slowly, I turned toward the voice.
My stomach dropped.
