Chapter 1 

I was picking out a violin for my daughter when I ran into my former mate, the one who rejected me 

seven years ago. 

The clerk spotted him and walked over with a bright smile. 

“Alpha Joshua, here again to choose a new violin for your Luna? She is so lucky to have a mate like you.” 

Joshua looked past the clerk, staring straight at me. After a long moment, he said quietly, “Pick one for her too. Put it on my account.” 

I smiled and shook my head, letting him know I had already chosen. 

He ignored that completely and placed a black card in my palm. 

“Your dream is to own a Stradivarius, but with your situation now, you can barely touch one. How would you ever afford it?” 

“Allison, it has been seven years. Stop being mad at me.” 

I drifted for a second. 

The Stradivarius he mentioned? I already owned one. 

And him? I had let go of him years ago. 

“You are reading too much into this. I am not mad at you.” 

I stepped around Joshua and told the clerk softly, “The one I mentioned earlier, please. Deliver it to 

this address.” 

He clearly did not believe me. His gaze darkened as he studied my face. 

Then he suddenly snatched the slip of paper from my hand. 

“Hawthorne?” He frowned deeply. 

“Allison, I know the dean of that werewolf academy. I can talk to him, ask him to give this kind of task to someone else.” 

“You are already working as a housemaid, and that is…” 

His voice softened, and the corners of his eyes grew red. “Allison, your life is this hard, and you never thought to ask me for help?” 

I blinked. “Housemaid?”

instinctively, I lowered my head. In the violin’s reflection, I noticed the faded blouse I had throws 

on today. 

I had to admit, it did look a little like a maid’s uniform. 

Figures. In Joshua’s eyes, I was always living miserably. 

But I did not want to explain anything. I simply gave a light smile. 

“I bought the violin myself. No need to trouble the dean.” 

I went straight to the counter and paid. 

Tonight was the night my daughter would receive first place at her violin competition. I needed to 

hurry home to celebrate with her. 

Early autumn arrived fast and fiercely in Maple Bay. 

I had not even reached the parking lot before I instinctively wrapped my arms around myself for 

warmth. 

When I looked up, a dark figure stepped in front of me. 

Joshua slipped a receipt into my bag. 

He was breathing hard, and his expression was a stubbornness I had never seen on him. 

“Allison, I canceled that violin. I got you the Stradivarius you always wanted.” 

His fingers trembled. “I remember your dream was to play your own concert with it.” 

“This violin is my gift to you. Please stop resenting me, alright?” 

Hearing that, I slowly took off my gloves. 

I had not said a single word yet, but he was already staring at the scars covering my hands. 

He fell silent. 

Because he knew better than anyone that I could never perform again. 

Eight years ago, I had been the most promising competitor in the werewolf realm’s violin championship. 

But the day before the finals, in order to elevate his first love Sarah Grant, he stole my original 

composition and gave it to her. 

He even let her pour boiling water mixed with wolfsbane over my hands.

My fingers were burned to raw flesh, and because of the wolfsbane, they could not heal 

Yet he still shielded her and said, “Allison, it is just a competition. Why must you fight Sarah for it? 

He dragged me to the healer hall. 

“If you want the championship, I can arrange a private one for you next year.” 

“But this time, let Sarah have it.” 

I cried the entire night. In desperation, I tore off the bloodsoaked bandages with trembling hands. 

But even as my blood stained the strings, I could not play even the simplest piece. 

I lost my qualification for the competition, and the entire pack accused me of plagiarism. 

I lost control. I went to Sarah’s house, wanting her to admit she had stolen my music. 

But when I pushed the door open, I saw two naked bodies entangled on the bed. 

All I remembered was Joshua pulling Sarah tightly into his arms as he shouted at me, 

“Allison, if you still want to be my Luna, get out!”
