Chapter 120 Boss Is Always Right
Three pairs of startled eyes immediately turned toward him.
Fintsbed
Professor Joe had just picked up a piece of beef with his fork. The moment he saw one of his investors standing in the doorway, he nearly jumped out of his seat.
“Mr. Barclay! What brings you here?”
Without missing a beat, Ares answered, “I’m eating next door. I took a wrong turn on my way back.”
The two elderly professors exchanged doubtful glances.
It was hard to imagine someone of Ares Barclay’s status choosing a restaurant like this—or somehow getting lost inside it.
Professor Miles, in particular, had absolutely no desire to see him. Every time he looked at Ares, he was reminded of the miserable night he’d stayed up until dawn preparing those predicted exam papers. He never wanted to relive that experience for as long as he lived.
Ares, however, made no move to leave. His gaze swept across the table, settling on a fourth cup that hadn’t yet been cleared away.
Steam still curled gently from the cup, filling the room with the rich aroma of coffee.
He recognized the scent immediately. It happened to be his grandfather’s favorite.
“There were four of you dining?”
Nathan didn’t understand why he was asking, but answered politely anyway.
“We were originally having dinner with Miss Zero from the Zero Degrees Institute, but something came up, so she had to leave early. Is something wrong, Mr. Barclay?”
“Nothing. Enjoy your meal.” He quietly closed the door behind him.
Just one step.
He had been only one step away from meeting that person.
The more she avoided him… the more certain he became that something was wrong.
Inside the room, Professor Miles sighed.
It was rare to meet a young person like Iris whom he connected with so naturally. They had

only chatted briefly, but he already felt it was a shame she’d had to leave so soon.
Professor Joe saw right through him.
Firshed
“Don’t worry, Miles. Once she gets into Capital University and becomes my student, you can come chat with her anytime.”
Professor Miles patted him on the shoulder with a meaningful smile. “Joe… I like this girl too. Who’s to say she won’t end up being my student?”
Professor Joe hadn’t expected to suddenly gain a rival.
The two old professors laughed and good-naturedly teased each other before returning to their meal.
Iris hadn’t actually left. She was hiding in the restroom, separated from Ares by nothing more than a single wall.
The restroom shared the same elegant design as the private rooms. A classic wooden window overlooked the parking lot below, giving her a clear view of Ares’s car.
The car hadn’t moved.
Neither had he.
After waiting for quite some time, she realized he still had no intention of leaving.
Just then, Zane called to let her know he had arrived. He had deliberately parked on the opposite side of the building, well away from Ares’s car.
As Iris hung up, she noticed a young woman finishing at the sink and heading for the exit.
She stepped forward and stopped her. “Excuse me, miss… could you wait just a second?”
Downstairs, Ares sat leisurely sipping coffee while waiting for the mysterious Miss Zero to come out. His eyes followed the women entering and leaving the restroom.
Then a thought suddenly crossed his mind.
He stood and stopped a young woman who was about to go inside.
“Excuse me. Could you check if there’s still anyone in there?”
The woman went in for a quick look. Moments later she poked her head back out.
“No one’s inside!”

Ares stopped waiting. He immediately strode downstairs.

Julian put away his phone and reported, “Mr. Barclay, no long-haired woman wearing a light brown suit has come out.”
Before leaving Professor Joe’s room, Ares had casually asked what Miss Zero was wearing today.
“You’ve been watching the whole time?”
“Yes, I never looked away…” Julian suddenly paused. “There was one interruption. A woman knocked on my car window to ask for directions.”
At that exact moment, Ares caught sight of a figure in a light brown suit opening the door of a car parked around the corner before quickly slipping inside.
Iris jumped into the back seat.
“Go!”
Zane started the engine but couldn’t help complaining.
“Don’t you think we’re acting way too suspicious? Why don’t we just tell Mr. Barclay the truth?”
“And then what?” Iris looked at him calmly. “The Zero Degrees Institute is connected to too many of our businesses. Every single one of them would have to be explained.”
Zane fell silent. He knew his boss would never reveal all her cards so easily.
“Right now, Venus is the priority. When the time is right, I’ll tell him everything.”
She desperately needed to find Venus’s former chairman.
If she wanted to lure them out, Venus had to return to the public eye with real momentum instead of quietly surviving under the protection of the Noir Group.
Zane sighed dramatically before forcing a grin. “Yeah, yeah. The boss is always right.”
Trying to lighten the mood, he reached for the accelerator.
Knock. Knock.
The sudden tapping on the window startled him so badly that the engine stalled.
Ares Barclay had somehow appeared beside their car.
Looking through the tinted window, Iris saw him standing there with one hand tucked into his pocket while the sleeves of his other arm were rolled up several times, revealing a strong,

muscular forearm.
:
He was looking toward her with unmistakable curiosity.
“What the hell?” Zane muttered. “How did he get here? Does he know how to teleport?”

Unsure what to do, he lowered his voice. “What now? Do we drive off, or should I go talk to him?”
Sometimes he truly admired Iris’s foresight.
Originally, he’d planned to come in a taxi, but she’d specifically told him to bring a private car with heavily tinted windows instead.
Now it was paying off.
They could clearly see Ares outside.
Ares couldn’t see inside. Even the windshield had been specially treated.
“You handle it.” Iris slipped on her face mask.
She removed the necklace Ares had given her and the bracelet Emma Barclay had gifted her, placing both into her bag. Then she pushed the handbag she used most often farther into the back of the car.
Zane wiped the sweat from his forehead. Even he felt nervous about facing someone as powerful as Ares Barclay.
He opened the door and stepped out.
The instant Ares saw him, a flicker of surprise flashed through his eyes before disappearing.
“When did Mr. Walker become the chauffeur for the head of the Zero Degrees Institute?”
Zane smiled naturally. “What a coincidence, Mr. Barclay. I’m just giving a friend a ride.”
Taking advantage of the open door, Ares glanced into the car.
Through the darkness, he could just make out a young woman sitting quietly in the back seat.
She wore a baseball cap, a face mask, and a light brown suit.
“Is that Miss Zero in the back? Sorry to trouble you, President Walker, but I’d like to ask Miss Zero a few questions.”
Zane answered on her behalf. “Mr. Barclay, Miss Zero isn’t feeling very well, and she doesn’t

think this is the right time for a meeting.”
Ares kept his eyes fixed on the back seat.
Through the tinted glass, his gaze met Iris’s.
“I only want to ask her a few questions.”

She handed the boy the plain vanilla cone.
:
“Can you eat ice cream? Here, this one’s for you!”

The boy sat on the ground hugging his knees. Hearing her sweet voice, he looked up at the two ice creams in her hands.
One was a simple vanilla cone. The other was piled high with several colorful scoops.
After Iris paid for Emma’s ice cream, they suddenly heard the little girl’s soft sobs behind them.
“That’s mine!”
They turned around to see the little boy holding the fancy multi-scoop ice cream instead. He hadn’t even taken the plain vanilla cone she had offered him.
Completely unfazed, he stuck out his tongue and slowly licked the ice cream from bottom to
before holding it back toward her.

“Do you still want it?”
Seeing her beautiful ice cream covered in his saliva, the little girl burst into even louder tears.
“If you don’t want it, I’ll eat it!”
The boy pulled it back and scooped a huge spoonful into his mouth.
After swallowing several bites, he looked at the other ice cream still in the little girl’s hand.
“You’re not going to eat that one either? Then give me that one too!” He reached out to grab it.
Emma was so angry she nearly saw stars.
“What is wrong with him? He’s so awful!”
She couldn’t stand it anymore.
Just then, Iris stepped aside to answer a phone call, reminding Emma not to wander off.
Seeing the last ice cream about to suffer the same fate, Emma rushed over and shoved the little boy.
“Ow!”
The chubby boy hadn’t expected someone to suddenly push him. Already unsteady on his feet, he immediately lost his balance and plopped onto the ground.

His lips quivered before he let out an earth-shaking wail.
“And you’re the one crying? She was kind enough to give you an ice cream! Why are you bullying her?”
Emma took the little girl’s hand. “Forget him. I’ll buy you another one.”
Just as they were about to head back to the stand, an angry roar came from behind them.
“You two little brats, stop right there!”
Finished
The little boy’s grandmother had returned. The moment she saw her precious grandson sitting on the ground, she rushed over and blocked Emma and the little girl’s path.
“You bullied my precious grandson and think you can just walk away?”
The little girl shrank behind Emma and timidly said, “He stole my ice cream first…”
The old woman’s eyebrows shot up. “Who saw that? All I saw was the two of you pushing him over! Do you have any idea how precious my grandson is? You little money-draining girls can just wait to pay up! First, apologize to my grandson!”
“My friend was nice enough to give him an ice cream, and he stole hers instead! I barely pushed him at all. He fell because he couldn’t keep his balance!”
Emma lifted her chin stubbornly, refusing to apologize.
That only made the old woman angrier. The large black mole near the corner of her mouth bobbed up and down as she spoke.
“Who knows if you gave him that ice cream to poison him? My precious grandson never eats this garbage they sell outside! If anything happens to him after eating it, you girls will be responsible!”
The grandmother helped the chubby boy to his feet. Limping dramatically, he walked over to the two girls.
“Grandma! They bullied me!”
Emma hadn’t expected someone who looked so dim-witted to be capable of turning the tables like that.
“Let’s check the security cameras! They’ll show exactly what happened!”
The old woman snorted.
“Check what cameras? Hurry up and pay! Who has time to waste arguing with you? We’re here

to have fun!”

Emma was still just a child. Ares Barclay had always protected her so well that she’d never encountered someone this unreasonable before. Faced with the situation, she had no idea what to do.
“It’s my fault. She had nothing to do with it. Please let her go. I’ll pay.”
Feeling guilty that Emma had gotten dragged into the trouble because of her, the little girl stepped forward.
The old woman sneered. “You think you get to decide whose fault it is? Neither of you is getting away today!”
She deliberately raised her voice. “Whose children are these? They’re absolutely horrible! They pushed my grandson over, refused to admit it, and even fed him who-knows-what!”
Emma turned to comfort the little girl. “It’s okay. My sister stepped away to make a phone call. She’ll be back soon. She’s amazing!”
“Ow! My stomach hurts!” The little boy suddenly clutched his stomach and crouched down, his face turning deathly pale in an instant.
The old woman stopped berating the girls and hurried over.
“My precious grandson! What’s wrong?”
“My stomach… Ahhh! It hurts so much!” He rolled around on the ground in agony.
Panicking, the old woman hurriedly dug a small pill out of her bag.
“Quick, take this! I got this miracle pill from a priest up in the mountains a while ago. It cures everything! Open your mouth!”
Just as she was about to force the pill into the boy’s mouth, a hand shot out and smacked it onto the ground.
“He can’t take that.”
“Iris!” Emma’s eyes immediately lit up.
Iris frowned at the black pill lying on the ground. It gave off a strong smell of herbal residue.
“Who are you? Stop getting in the way of treating my grandson!”
Iris gave the old woman a calm, indifferent glance.
