“It’s still early. Let’s stop by the mall.”
A few days earlier, Emma Barclay had told Iris about a newly released building block set she wanted.
Iris had promised she’d buy it for her if she took her medicine without complaining.
Although Emma’s surgery had been successful, her body was still weak.
Iris had written her a prescription and asked Ares to have the herbs prepared for her.
Shopping had never been something Iris lingered over. She skipped every clothing and jewelry store, headed straight to the children’s section on the second floor, picked up the building block set, paid, and left.
The entire process took less than five minutes.
As she reached the household goods section on the first floor, she spotted a familiar face.
Jess.
The administrative employee who had spoken up for her during the meeting.
Jess’s shopping cart held a few household essentials while she chatted on the phone.
“Our department director left the company. The new director seems really nice, so I’m thinking about applying to become her assistant.”
“But Supervisor Zedd and the others are still there. I’m a little worried…”
Focused on her call, Jess never noticed Iris standing nearby.
“Yeah… I’ll give it a try. I know my professional skills are solid. It’s just… sigh.”
She let out a long sigh, shook her head, and walked away.
Iris didn’t linger either.
She went back upstairs to buy another outfit, asked Zane to head home first, then called for a driver from the Noir Family to take her to the Barclay residence to pick up Emma.
The two of them had secretly agreed to visit an amusement park without telling Ares.
It had taken forever to find an afternoon when he was away on a business trip.
Given Ares’s status, every time he had taken Emma to an amusement park before, the entire

With no other visitors around, it had always been incredibly boring.

“Iris!”
The moment the car stopped outside the gates of the Barclay estate, Emma came running over with a little backpack, ready to climb into Iris’s car.
“Miss Emma, you can only travel in the Barclay family’s vehicles.”
Emma’s bright smile instantly disappeared. “But I don’t want to! It’s always the same cars. They’re so boring! I want to ride in Iris’s car!”
The two bodyguards looked helplessly toward Iris. “Miss Noir… that’s going to be hard for us to explain.”
“It’s fine.” Iris smiled. “Let Emma ride with me. You can change into regular clothes and follow us.”
It was the perfect compromise.
The SUV she had brought was spacious enough for all four of them.
“Hehe!”
Emma flashed a grin, revealing two neat rows of tiny white teeth as she hugged Iris’s arm.
“Iris, your perfume smells so good today! My uncle always smells nice too… but not like you.”
Iris helped the bodyguards lift Emma into the car. “What kind of cologne does your uncle usually wear?”
She suddenly remembered the faint, distinctive scent she’d noticed on Ares the day they rescued Hannah.
It had been subtle, yet strangely familiar.
She was certain she’d smelled it somewhere before.
Oddly enough, that was the only day he’d worn it.
Every other time, he wore the same custom-made niche fragrance.
Emma set her backpack aside.

“I don’t know. You can ask Uncle yourself. Or maybe I can ask him for you next time… Hey! What is this?”
Emma had asked Iris to braid her hair.
Just before Iris finished, Emma grabbed a mirror.
The reflection staring back at her looked like a scruffy little beggar with wild, messy
hair.
Her eyebrows twisted together in horror.
“How come you’re bullying me too, just like Uncle?”
Laughing, Iris gently held her still. “I’m not finished yet. Stop moving.”
She separated one small section of hair and gave it a gentle tug.
Instantly, the messy strands settled neatly into place.
What had looked like a disaster transformed into an elegant braided hairstyle.
Tiny butterfly shapes woven from strands of hair decorated both sides near her temples, almost like magic.
Emma loved it. She immediately pulled out her phone and snapped several photos before dragging Iris into the frame for a selfie.
With one tap, she uploaded them to social media.
Iris looked at her. “You hid the post from your uncle… right?”
Emma was admiring her beautiful pictures when those words hit her like a bolt of lightning.
She hurriedly reached to delete the post-
Only to see that Ares Barclay had already liked it.
Emma’s face immediately fell.
She forced herself to smile.
“It’s okay… It’s totally… okay…”

“That just means handling this is much easier for me than it is for you.”
An ordinary businessperson might think twice before sacrificing an entire day over something like this.
Iris wasn’t an ordinary businessperson.
The moment dispatch heard that the caller was the daughter of the Noir Family—and that the Barclay family’s young miss was also involved-they immediately sent officers to the scene.
After hearing what had happened, the officers prepared to take the grandmother and grandson back to the station.
The old woman exploded. “You’re only listening to this little brat! Why are you arresting us instead of them? What if they’re just bullying poor people like us?”
Iris calmly held up her phone. “I have video evidence. The facts are clear. I’ll come to the station tomorrow to give my statement. If you need anything before then, you can contact me by phone.”
She briefly showed the officers the recording.
The picture and audio were crystal clear.
A young couple had been filming each other and had accidentally captured the entire incident -from the little boy bullying the little girl to everything that happened afterward.
After obtaining the video, Iris had even cleaned up the audio and enhanced the image quality before going to find Emma.
“No problem,” one of the officers replied immediately.
A man carrying a child suddenly stepped out from the crowd.
“Miss! I recorded what happened afterward too.” He held up his phone. “These two tried to extort my wife and son before. They’ve finally been caught. Here-I’ll give you even more evidence.”
Only then did the old woman’s confidence crumble. She hugged her grandson tightly.
“You’re supposed to respect the elderly and care for children! Don’t you know that? You can’t bully old people and children!”
Iris forwarded all the videos to the officers.
“Respecting the elderly and caring for children only applies to elders who are honorable and

“You don’t deserve those words.”
As the police escorted the pair away, Emma turned back to the little girl.

name?”
Realizing she’d touched on something painful, Emma quickly changed the subject.
“It’s okay if they didn’t come! You can play with us!”
The earlier incident had delayed them for so long that they never managed to finish all the daytime attractions.
Fortunately, the amusement park stayed open into the evening and even had a fireworks show.
Iris bought all three of them tickets for the night session.
The two little girls happily skipped toward the front to watch the fireworks together.
Not wanting to squeeze into the crowd herself, Iris asked the bodyguards to stay close and protect them.
One dazzling firework after another bloomed across the night sky, lighting up the entire amusement park in brilliant colors.
A short distance away, Iris sat alone on a swing bench, gently rocking back and forth.
Her phone suddenly vibrated.
She looked down.
Ares was requesting a video call.
The moment the call connected, he heard the noisy atmosphere behind her.
“You’re still at the amusement park with Emma?”

“So how did you two meet?”
Iris thought for a moment. “An arranged engagement?”
That was close enough. She certainly couldn’t say they’d met because she’d operated on his niece.
Bella sighed dramatically. “So all the good men get reserved the moment they’re born. No wonder there aren’t any left on the market!”
Iris couldn’t help laughing. “Stop overthinking it and get back to work.”
After spending the past few days together, Bella had become much more lively. Whenever they weren’t working, she chatted nonstop around Iris.
“Okay! One last question.” Bella asked curiously, “It’s the weekend tomorrow. Are you going on a date?”
She honestly couldn’t picture their usually aloof boss dating anyone. It was obvious Iris treated her fiancé differently than everyone else.
Just… not by much.
“No. I have something to discuss.”
A few days earlier, she’d helped Professor Joe and his team solve a small research problem. For some reason, Professor Joe had insisted on treating her to a meal.
That weekend, they met at a newly opened, trendy restaurant in the city center.
Unlike most social media hotspots, this restaurant accepted only a limited number of guests each day, and reservations had to be made well in advance.
Its décor was elegant-a modern interpretation of traditional aesthetics that was especially popular with younger diners.
Seated beside Professor Joe were Nathan and Professor Miles, the professor who had helped organize Iris’s college entrance exam study materials and predicted likely exam questions.
This wasn’t a formal meeting.
Professor Miles had simply grown too curious.
Day after day, he listened to Professor Joe praise Iris more enthusiastically than he praised his own children. Naturally, he became increasingly eager to meet this remarkable young woman, so he’d encouraged Professor Joe to invite her to lunch.

He met Iris and the others at the entrance.

“Thank you so much. I don’t even know your name.” He handed Iris a business card. “If you ever need anything, please don’t hesitate to contact me. And your name is…?”
Just as Iris was about to answer, her eyes landed on the card.
Venus Cosmetics
Yonki Saunders.
She deliberately left out her last name and gave the first name.
“Iris.”
“Thank you so much, Miss Iris, for everything you did today!” Yonki smiled apologetically. “I had no idea this little troublemaker had a mind of her own. She skipped her tutoring class and came here by herself. I’m so sorry she caused you all so much trouble.”
He crouched down and pulled Silvia Saunders into his arms. His expression was equal parts heartbroken and frustrated.
“Didn’t Daddy tell you not to run off by yourself? Why didn’t you tell Grandpa and Grandma where you were going? Do you know how worried they were?”
Silvia’s eyes immediately reddened.
“You promised you’d come to my parent-teacher meeting… but you never came back! They used to make fun of me because I don’t have a mom. Now they’re saying I’m an orphan! I don’t want to talk to you anymore!”
Every word pierced Yonki’s heart. His voice softened immediately.
“I’m sorry. My business trips are finally over for this year. I’ll be back working here starting next week. Then I’ll spend lots of time with you, okay?”
“Really?”
“Really. I promise.”
Only then did Silvia’s anger subside, though she still pouted stubbornly.

After taking Emma home, Iris returned to the Noir residence in the family driver’s car.

Monday morning, as Iris was walking toward her office, Jess accidentally bumped into her.
The stack of documents in Jess’s arms scattered across the floor. She hurriedly crouched down to pick them up.
“I’m so sorry, President Zero! I didn’t mean to!”
As Iris helped gather the papers, one document immediately caught her attention.
Its title was printed in bold across the front:
Product Development Proposal
Jess’s eyes were red, and her voice sounded stuffy, as though she’d been crying.
Remembering the phone conversation she’d overheard at the supermarket, Iris had a pretty good idea what was going on.
She knelt down to help collect the documents.
Jess was startled. “No, no, President Zero! I can do it myself!”
“It’s fine.”
While helping organize the papers, Iris quietly slipped the proposal out of the pile.
Making sure Jess didn’t notice, she swiftly tucked it into the stack Bella was holding.
Bella had crouched down to help as well.
Suddenly finding an extra proposal in her hands, she looked confused.
Then Iris gave her a subtle wink.
Bella wisely kept quiet.
Jess looked exhausted.
Bella couldn’t help asking,
“Are you okay? If you’re not feeling well, maybe you should take the day off and rest.”
