Chapter 360 A Name From The Past

Lady Flourish POV

The reference number I had copied from the healer’s record was still open on my phone when Rys called again.

I answered immediately, hoping he had found something more useful than another missing file.

“I traced the surviving relative,” he said. “The connection is more complicated than we expected.

“Tell me.”

“The relative belongs to the Veylan family. They handled private correspondence and medical transfers for several Stonehedge households years ago. Some of their records show payments from intermediaries later linked to Callum Voss.”

I stood from my desk. “You’re telling me this family helped Voss move information through Stonehedge?”

“That’s what the records suggest. I haven’t found proof that this particular relative was involved, but the family had access to information that should never have left the pack.”

My wolf growled at the mention of Voss. I had spent too long trying to understand how people had learned about my bloodline, where Amara had been taken, and who had helped keep the truth from us.

Now we had a family connection that might explain part of it.

“Send me everything you have on the Veylans,” I said. “I want the names, dates, and payment records.”

“I’ll send the verified material. Some of the older documents are incomplete.”

“Fine. Don’t fill in the gaps with assumptions.”

When the call ended, I forwarded the information to Damian and asked him to meet me at the estate.

I wanted to speak to the surviving relative before they had time to hide anything, especially if they knew where the healer’s missing records were kept.

Damian arrived less than half an hour later. I showed him Rhys’s findings, then explained what I intended to do.

“We should contact the relative today,” I said. “If their family helped Voss move information, they may know who received the healer’s files.”

“Possibly,” he replied.

“That’s why we need to ask.”

He read the documents again before putting them on my desk. “We need to investigate the connection before we reveal what we know,”

I stared at him. “How much more investigation do you want? We have the healer’s records, a family name,

documented payments linked to Voss.”

“We have evidence that the family handled correspondence and that some payments came throughy Voss’s intermediaries. We don’t have proof that this person knew about you or Amara.”

“Then we’ll find out by speaking to them.”

“And tell them we found a hidden chamber beneath your estate, recovered records about two bloomine children, and discovered their family might be connected to the people who moved those record

His question stopped me for a moment.

Damian continued, “If they’re involved, they’ll know what we have and what we’re looking for. If they’re innocent, someone else could learn about our investigation through them. Either way, we would be giving away information before we know who we’re dealing with.”

I walked to the window, trying to contain my frustration. I understood the reasoning, but every delay felt like another chance for the people responsible to erase what remained.

“Amara spent years without knowing who she was,” I said. “I can’t keep asking her to wait while we examine one old record after another.”

“I’m not asking you to abandon the investigation.” Damian came to stand beside me. “I’m asking you not to walk into it without knowing whether we’re being watched.”

I turned toward him. “You think the relative might be working for Voss?”

“I think we don’t know enough to rule it out.”

That answer was difficult to argue with, which made it even more irritating.

My wolf wanted action. I could feel the same urge in Damian through our bond, though he was keeping it under control. He knew what it meant to find a possible lead after months of searching, and he wasn’t dismissing the importance of it.

“What do you suggest?” I asked.

“Rhys verifies the relative’s current connections, financial records, and recent movements. We check whether the healer left anything with them before he died. We also find out who received the missing files from his office.”

“And then?”

“Then we decide how to approach them, with enough information to ask the right questions.”

I folded my arms. “I still want to speak to this person myself.”

“If we establish that it’s safe, I’ll go with you.”

“I don’t need you to protect me from every conversation, Damian.”

“I know.” His voice softened, but he didn’t back down. “This isn’t about whether you can handle the meeting. It’s about making sure we don’t warn the wrong person that we’re close to the truth.”

I looked at him for a few seconds before returning to my desk. He was right about one thing: the family connection was a lead, not a confession. I wouldn’t help Voss by treating suspicion as proof.

I called Rhys back and gave him the additional checks Damian had suggested. I also instructed hito preserve every record connected to the Veylans and the healer’s missing files.

“Don’t contact the relative yet,” I said. “I want to know who they’ve been speaking to and whether anyone has approached them recently.”

Rhys agreed to begin the checks immediately.

After the call, Damian took my hand and squeezed it once. I let him, though my attention remained on the documents spread across the desk.

The healer had known about both sisters. His records had disappeared, and his surviving relative belonged to a family whose dealings reached back to Voss.

We were closer to an answer, but I had no intention of letting the person who might hold it slip away.

“Find out everything we can,” I told Damian. “Then we’ll decide what to reveal and what to keep to ourselves.”
