Chapter 361 The First Suspect
Alpha Damian POV
Flourish wanted answers, and I understood why. Still, before we approached the Veylan relativanjed to know whether anyone had been watching our investigation or trying to reach the family first
Rhys completed the initial checks the following morning. The relative had received no recent payr from any known Voss intermediary, and there were no confirmed links to the Eastern Army.
However, several years of the family’s financial records were missing.
It wasn’t enough to establish guilt, but it was enough to justify a conversation.
We arranged to meet the relative in a secured room at the Dartwood estate. Flourish wanted to come with me, but I asked her to wait until we had heard the person’s account. She wasn’t happy about it.
“You keep telling me not to make assumptions,” she said as we stood outside the room. “Yet you’re treating this person like a threat before they’ve said a word,”
“I’m treating them as someone whose family may have helped Voss. There’s a difference.”
“And if they refuse to speak?”
“Then we’ll decide what to do next.”
She held my gaze for a moment before stepping back. “Don’t leave anything important out when you tell me what they say.”
“I won’t.”
I entered the room alone.
The Veylan relative was already seated at the table. They looked older than I had expected, with tired eyes and a stiff posture that suggested they had spent the journey worrying about the meeting.
Their scent carried fear, sharp enough for my wolf to pick up immediately.
I took the chair opposite them.
“Do you know why we’ve asked you here?”
They swallowed. “You said it concerned my relative’s medical records.”
“It does. We’ve recovered documents connected to an old Stonehedge healer. His records mention two female children with unusual bloodline responses, and we believe some of his files were removed before his death.”
Unlock succeeded
ghtened around each other.
“Those records have nothing to do with me.”

“Perhaps. But your family handled private correspondence and medical transfers for Stonehedge
useholds. We also found payments connected to intermediaries linked to Callum Voss.”
Their head snapped up at the name.
I noticed the reaction, though I didn’t interrupt. Their wolf pressed close to the surface, and the person’s breathing changed as they tried to control it.
“I never met Voss,” they said.
“I didn’t ask whether you met him. I asked about your family’s work.”
They looked toward the door. The movement was brief, but their scent changed again,
“My family had no choice,” they finally said. “They were told to move sealed packages and pass messages If they refused, people threatened them.”
“Who threatened them?”
“I don’t know.”
“Who gave the instructions?”
“Different people. Sometimes someone from Stonehedge, sometimes a messenger who didn’t give a name. We weren’t allowed to ask questions.”
I leaned forward. “And you expect me to believe your family handled secret transfers for years without knowing what they were moving?”
Their expression tightened. “You think we were important enough to be told everything? We carried messages. We delivered packages. We did what we were told because refusing could get us killed.”
The fear in their scent was genuine, I had questioned wolves who lied to protect their positions, and they usually watched for signs of what I knew before choosing their answers.
This person seemed frightened by the memories themselves.
That didn’t make the account complete.”
“What happened to the records taken from the healer’s office?” I asked.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
M
“Documents were removed shortly before his death. Your family handled transfers. Did you move them?”
They shook their head too quickly, then stopped.
“My father handled most of the work. He kept his business separate from the rest of the family. When he died, some of his papers were gone.”
“Who took them?”

“I don’t know,”
“Did you look?”
Their eyes met mine. “Yes.”
The answer came quietly, without the hesitation I’d heard before.
“What did you find?”
“Letters with names removed. Payment records. Instructions to deliver things to places I didn’t recognize.” They rubbed their palms against their trousers. “I burned some of them,”
My wolf growled at the admission.
“You destroyed evidence connected to Voss?”
“I was afraid. I thought if anyone found those papers in my house, they’d come for me next.”
“Did you burn everything?”
They hesitated.
There it was.
“No,” they said. “I kept one envelope. I didn’t know what it meant, and I didn’t want anyone else finding it.”
“Where is it?”
“At my home. Hidden away.”
I studied their face. The fear remained, but now there was shame mixed into it. They had admitted to destroying records, yet they were still holding something back.
“What does the envelope contain?”
“I haven’t opened it.”
“Why keep it, then?”
They looked down at their hands. “Because my father told me that if anyone ever came asking about the healer, I should give it to them. He said it could prove our family hadn’t chosen to help those people.”
I sat back, considering the answer. Their father had apparently known the records mattered, but I couldn’t tell whether the envelope would clear the family or expose a larger part in the conspiracy.
“Who else knows you kept it?”
“No one.”
Their scent sharpened again. They were afraid, but I couldn’t tell whether the fear came from what the

I ended the questioning without promising protection or accusing them of lying. Before leaving arranged for a discreet escort to accompany them home so the envelope could be collected safely
Outside, Flourish was waiting.
“Well?” she asked.
connected to Voss.
“They admit their family was pressured into moving messages and packages for people cop They also destroyed some records after their father’s death.”
“Did they keep anything?”
“An envelope. Their father told them to preserve it in case someone came asking about the healer.”
Her expression changed. “Then we need to see it.”
“We will. But I don’t believe we’ve heard the whole story.”
“Because they lied?”
“Because they admitted to destroying evidence, yet claim they never knew what they were moving. Their fear is real, Flourish. So is the fact that they’re still withholding something, whether out of guilt or fear.”
She looked toward the secured room. “Let’s hope that envelope gives us a name.”
I took her hand as we walked toward the operations room. We had found our first person willing to talk, but I wasn’t ready to trust their account until we knew what their father had left behind.
