Chapter 374 The Cost Of Restraint
Alpha Damian POV
I was still at the logistics center when Flourish arrived.

She came with Rhys and two F-Tech security officers. Her gaze went straight to the damaged fence, then to the guard being treated near the entrance.
“Is he going to be all right?” she asked.
“The cut was deep, but the physician says he’ll recover,” I replied. “The attackers didn’t get inside the storage area. We caught one.”
“Where is he?”
“In the security office.”
She looked over the damaged section of fence. “And the others?”
“They escaped into the trees. I have patrols checking the boundary.”
Her attention returned to me. “Checking the boundary, or chasing them?”
“Both, until I ordered them back.”
“Damian.”
“I know what you’re going to say.
“Then you know why I’m asking.”
I took her to the security office. The captured wolf sat with his hands secured in front of him, guarded by two Dartwood warriors. He had refused to give his name or explain who sent him. When he saw Flourish, his eyes moved briefly to her face before dropping to the table.
She asked the guards to wait outside. I didn’t like leaving her alone with him, but she gave me a look that made it clear she wanted the chance to speak without an audience. I stayed beside the door.
“Why did you attack this facility?” she asked.
“We were told there were weapons here.”
“Who told you?”
“I don’t know.”
“You knew enough to come here with a unit.”
He shifted in his chair. “We received information. That’s all.”
Flourish glanced at me, then faced him again. “Did anyone show you proof?”

He said nothing.
“This center stores medical supplies, communication equipment, and emergency provisions. You could have killed people who were working here because you believed a story someone gave you.”
“We were told F-Tech was supplying armed packs.”
“Were you told which packs? Were you given a delivery record? A name?”
His jaw tightened. “We were told what we needed to know.”
“That isn’t an answer.”
He looked away. The guard at the door shifted his weight, and the captive’s attention followed the
movement.
Flourish ended the questioning without raising her voice. She asked Rhys to preserve the man’s clothing, communications equipment, and anything recovered from the attackers. The security team had already saved the alarm records and camera footage. She wanted the original files protected, with copies made for independent review.
Once we stepped outside, I turned to her.
“We have enough to know someone sent them here. I’ll take a patrol into the eastern territory and find the rest.”
“And then?”
“Bring them in.”
“Alive?”
“If they give us the chance.”
She stopped walking. “That’s exactly what I don’t want you deciding while you’re angry.”
“They attacked a facility that serves several packs. One of our guards is injured. What would you have me do, wait for another attack?”
“I want us to know who sent them before we move against anyone. If we cross into another territory and start dragging wolves out, the enemy gets the conflict it wants.”
“They came onto our ground.”
“They came onto F-Tech’s property, and we have evidence of that. We don’t yet know who gave the order, where they came from, or whether the six attackers were told the truth themselves.”
I looked back toward the security office. “One of them is in our custody. The others are getting farther away every minute,”
“Then strengthen the patrols and secure the routes. Don’t turn this into a hunt without knowing where it leads.”

My wolf pushed against my control. “They hurt our people.”
I understood the feeling I wanted the attackers found before they reached another facility. I wanted the wolf in the office to give us a name, and I wanted whoever had arranged the raid to understand that Dartwood would not ignore an attack.
But Flourish was right about one thing. The enemy had already tried to make F-Tech look like a private military force. If I sent warriors across borders without clear evidence, I would give them a new story to spread.
“I wan’t cross into another pack’s territory without proof and a proper request,” I said.
She watched me for a moment. “And the attackers who ran?”
“We’ll identify them through the footage and the evidence recovered here. I’ll have the patrols watch the boundary, but they won’t pursue anyone beyond it.”
“Good. I want the captured wolf questioned again after Rhys has reviewed his belongings. We should also establish whether the information came through the same channels used to circulate the forged documents.”
I nodded, though the decision still sat badly with me.
Flourish reached for my injured shoulder. The claw mark had begun to close, but the skin remained tender.
“You were hit.”
“It isn’t serious.”
“That’s not what I asked.”
Het her inspect it. “It will heal.”
She gave me a brief, unhappy look before turning to Rhys, who had joined us with a report. The camera footage showed the attackers arriving in two groups. One had gone directly for the storage building, while the other disabled the outer camera and tried to block the access road. Their movements suggested they had been given a layout, though the recording did not show who supplied it.
“Keep the original footage untouched,” Flourish instructed. “And send the copies to our legal team. I want the security team to document every damaged item and every injury.”
Rhys confirmed that he would handle it.
I added an order for Dartwood patrols to reinforce the eastern route and coordinate with F-Tech security. No one would leave the area without reporting their destination. We would watch for another attempt, but we would not start a fight with a neighboring pack based on suspicion.
By the time we finished, the injured guard had been taken for further treatment, and the fence repair was underway. The captured attacker remained in the office, still refusing to speak.
Flourish stood beside me as the security team carried away the damaged camera.

“I know you wanted to go after them,” she said.
“I still do.”
“I know.”
I wasn’t going to pretend restraint came easily. Every instinct told me to find the wolves who had attacked our people and make sure they never tried it again. Instead, I had to wait for evidence, names, and a clear account of who was behind them.
I looked toward the eastern tree line. “If they come back, we won’t wait for permission to defend this place.”
“No one is asking you to,” she replied.
That was the agreement. We would protect the center, preserve what the attackers had left behind, and find the people responsible. I could accept that much, even if I was far from satisfied.
