After that scene, he finally stops lurking outside my studio. 

But oh no-he’s just getting creative now. 

Goes crying to my mom instead. Shows up at her place loaded down with luxury skincare shit that probably cost more than her car payment. 

Feeds her this whole sob story about how he “made a mistake,” how he’s “so sorry,” how he just needs her to “help him 

fix things.” 

And my mom? She falls for it. Hard. 

Calls me up all concerned: “Sweetie, I really think Mason means it this time. He seemed so genuine.” 

“I mean, it’s not like he actually slept with anyone. And seven years is a long time to just throw away-” 

“Mom. Stop.” 

I practically snap the phone in half. “You don’t have to fuck someone else for it to be cheating. His heart was never 

with me. Not for one single second.” 

“We’re divorced. It’s over. We’re never getting back together. Period.” 

“Oh and remember how he used to treat you? Wouldn’t even let you through the front door?” 

“If he shows up again, slam it in his face. I’m serious.” 

Hang up before she can argue more. 

Slump back in my chair. Rub my throbbing temples. I’m so goddamn exhausted. 

Ryan taps on the door, pokes his head in. 

“Hey, so uh… your assistant just messaged. Mason showed up at your parents’ house?” 

“Already talked to some people back home though. If he pulls that crap again, they’ll handle it.” 

Something warm blooms in my chest. Finally, someone who just gets it. 

“Thank you. God, thank you so much.”

“Ryan’s fine. Drop the formal stuff.” 

He drops into the chair across from me. “Seriously though, anything you need-I’m one text away.” 

I nod, trying to refocus on the designs scattered across my desk. 

But Mason? He’s nowhere near done. 

Takes it completely public now. Uses his whole online presence to stage this massive romantic comeback campaign. 

Same exact playbook he used chasing Nora years ago. 99 red roses, emotional livestreams, tearful video confessions-the full dog and pony show. 

Goes absolutely viral. 

The whole internet’s losing their minds over it. Comments flooded with “omg his heart is so pure” and “this is what 

REAL love looks like.” 

Overnight he becomes this symbol of devoted romance or some bullshit. 

People are literally drawing cartoon versions of him. Making memes. Calling him “husband material.” 

My best friend back home fills me in on all of it. 

Honestly? All I feel is this huge wave of relief. 

Thank god I’m on another continent right now. 

Didn’t have to witness that disgusting circus act with my own two eyes.
