Jensen stared fixatedly at my phone as if it were a lethal poison. 

“This… this is fabricated,” he stammered, frantically trying to deny it. “It’s completely fabricated.” 

But his trembling hands betrayed his true thoughts. 

I tucked the phone back into my bag without wasting another breath on pointless explanations. 

“Go find out the truth yourself. Now take your people and get lost.” 

Suddenly, my mother dropped to her knees in front of me with a heavy thud. 

She finally realized that I was truly done with them. 

“Everlee, I was wrong. I shouldn’t have favored Mina. I was fooled by her, too!” 

“Please save us. It’s thirty million dollars. If we pay that penalty, even our house will be seized by the court.” 

She clung to my legs, sobbing and wailing hysterically. 

I looked down at the woman who had given birth to me and raised me. 

I felt no sense of triumph, only a deep, bone-weary exhaustion.

I turned around, walked into the house, and shut the door behind me.
