Chapter 7
This was completely expected.
I had grown numb to such things by now.
All I wanted was for Officer Wilson to take me away quickly. I didn’t want to stay in that house anymore.
Although he didn’t know what was going on, he still chose to respect my wishes.
I secretly rented a place outside, not telling any relatives or friends, and started living the life I wanted.
Six months later, while I was at the convenience store downstairs, I ran into Officer Parker.
He looked at me with an apologetic expression.
“I’m sorry, I promised you I’d do better, but I failed.”
I smiled and shook my head. “It’s okay. I know you did your best.”
There was no one who could walk out of my dad’s study with their normal attitude intact. I knew he couldn’t
control himself either.
We talked for a while, and he told me that my dad had been searching for me, warning me to be careful. If
my dad found me, I would be facing a terrible ordeal again.
I nodded and thanked Officer Parker.
But what was truly terrifying was when I left the convenience store. My parents were standing across the
street, staring at me!
Fear grew inside me, and I started running, my heart pounding in my chest.
When I had run quite a distance, I quickly turned into a small alley, only to run straight into a man.
I looked up, and it was my dad!
A cold shiver ran up my spine as I froze in place, unable to speak, terrified by his menacing gaze.
He grabbed me and dragged me back home.
I only remember crying for what felt like hours, but no matter how much I begged, they refused to untie the
ropes binding me.
My sister sat beside me, happily munching on sunflower seeds, laughing at how I dared to run away. It was as if she were mocking me, telling me I was asking for trouble.
The door to my room creaked open, and my dad hurried in, followed by a doctor.
The doctor looked familiar, his face full of concern, his gaze kind. He walked up to me and spoke with a comforting air, as if he could make everything better.

When he saw me, his brows furrowed deeply. “Her condition has worsened. I recommend that you take her to the hospital for treatment. Letting it drag on like this isn’t going to help.”
I was completely confused, kicking my legs and struggling.
“Let me go! I’m not sick! Are you trying to lock me in a psychiatric hospital and abuse me?”
“Dad, if you don’t like me, just kill me. Why do you have to treat me like this?”
The beating I expected didn’t come. Instead, my dad, unusually red-eyed, sat beside me and pulled me into a
tight hug.
My mom walked in too, crying and wiping her tears, looking utterly heartbroken.
“Sweetie, you’ve misunderstood your dad. He has always loved you. You’re our family. How could we ever
hurt you or want you dead?”
I stared at them, my eyes bloodshot, and I yelled, “Then what’s hidden in Dad’s study?! Why does every man
who sees it leave me? Did you put a curse on them?”
I bit my dad’s arm in a frenzy. Though he winced in pain, he gritted his teeth and didn’t make a sound.
My mom’s face turned pale with fear, and she quickly tried to calm me down. ‘
“Good girl, let go of your dad. If you want to see the study, we’ll take you there. You can go again, okay?”
Again? What does my mom mean by that?
I was so confused. I had never been inside the study!
Just as I was lost in thought, my parents took me into the study.
This was the first time I had ever been inside, but it felt strangely familiar, like I had been there many times
before.
The furnishings and layout of the room seemed like something I had arranged myself.
