Chapter 6 A New Body for Lydia
Once Lydia fell asleep again, Adrian left the ward with Julian.
The moment the door closed, both of their expressions turned dark.
Julian spoke first,
“Are you really still going to find her a new body?”
Adrian fell silent for a moment, then murmured,
“Cecilia’s death was an accident. None of us expected her to take her own life.”
Julian’s clenched his hands at his sides until his knuckles whitened.

“Lydia’s body is far too weak. Even if you’re willing to marry her, the elders will never approve.”
Adrian’s gaze turned cold.
“Which is why our top priority is finding her a more suitable body.”
“Where will you even search for such a vessel?” Julian asked.
Adrian gazed down the lengthy passage and rumbled in a low tone,
“Alpha Kane from Silver Moon Pack is nearing our territory soon, accompanied by his beta and a thirteen–year–old she–wolf who can achieve full wolf transformation. They travel here to settle disputes over the border hunting lands shared by our packs.”
Julian caught on immediately, his features twitching subtly.
“You refer to Evelyn?”
“That is right.”
A sinister glint flickered across Adrian’s
gaze.
“She stands as Silver Moon Pack’s most promising juvenile lycan. Her flesh would make an ideal host for Lydia.”

Far away, hundreds of miles from that hall.
“Evelyn…

“Evelyn, can you make out my voice?”
Worried pleas rang over and over inside my ears.
I pried my eyelids open with immense effort.

Through misty sight, I spotted a young man seated beside my bed, stained with blood, his puffy and inflamed from distress.
When he saw consciousness return to me, he stilled briefly, then pulled me into a crushing embrace.
“You’ve woken at last!”
His hold squeezed me tight, his tone heavy with held–back sobs.
“You gave me a terrible fright.
“For one dreadful instant, I could not detect your heartbeat. I feared… I feared I’d lost you.”
My brother?
I tensed within his arms, my mind emptied of all thought.
I ought to have perished.
I tried to push him away, yet a piercing stab of agony suddenly shot through my head.
Countless alien recollections flooded my awareness.
I groaned and pressed hard against my temples.
.“Evelyn, what’s wrong?”
He drew back in haste, panic etched deep on his features.
“Has your injury flared again? I will fetch the healer right away!”
I had no chance to reply.
Those foreign memories streamed through my mind one after another.
The original owner of this body bore the name Evelyn.
She was the most gifted young she–wolf among Silver Moon Pack’s rising generation.

Her parents lavished endless affection upon her. Her elder brother Leon had shielded her since childhood, never letting her endure any unfair hurt.
Not long prior, the Silver Moon delegation set out toward Obsidian Pack, ready to negotiate with Adrian over rights to the border hunting grounds.
But they were ambushed by Rogues on the way.
Amid the chaos, a feral lycan lunged at Leon from behind.
Evelyn threw herself forward to save him, taking the fatal blow meant for her brother.
Razor–sharp lupine claws sliced through her chest, nearly crushing her heart.
I glanced downward instinctively.
Thick bandages wrapped my torso, faint crimson seepage leaking through the layers.
So the true Evelyn was gone.
Somehow, my spirit had slipped into her freshly lifeless body.
“I am so sorry, Evelyn.”
Leon took my hand once more, tears streaming down his cheeks.
“It is all my fault for failing to protect you. I should have been the one lying injured here.”
Watching his guilt–stricken face, a sharp sting burned in my nasal passages.
Once, Julian had loved me with this very same devotion.
Yet later, he watched me endure lash after lash, watched me bleed, and even orchestrated my .death.
I parted my lips to speak, yet quick footsteps echoed outside the ward.
The door was shoved open roughly.
A tall male strode into the room.
Battle blood still clung to him; his black tunic had been ripped open by claws, revealing half- healed scars across his chest.
“Evelyn.”
The body’s innate memories told me this was Alpha Kane, who had grown up alongside Evelyn

and Leon.
Kane moved swiftly toward the bed.
The second our gazes met, my heart skipped a violent beat.
A strange, burning power surged up from the deepest part of my soul.

An invisible thread wove through flesh and blood, binding me firmly to the man before me.
It was the destined mate bond, a mark exclusive to werewolf soulmates.
My frame turned rigid, staring at Kane in utter disbelief.
Kane also halted mid–step.
The concern on his face melted into pure astonishment. His eyes locked onto mine as though seeing me for the very first time.
“Impossible…”
He rasped, his breathing growing rapid and unsteady.
Leon looked at him, confused.
“Kane, what is the matter?”
Kane paid him no heed.
He remained rooted in place, never shifting his gaze from mine for even a heartbeat.
After a long pause, he spoke in a rough, fractured voice.
.“Mate.”
Leon’s expression froze entirely.
