Chapter 8 Dog Blood Swapped in Secret
Several days went by, and the wound across my chest mostly healed.
As the pack healer exited the ward, hushed whispers drifted in from outside.

“Have you heard? One of the maids serving the Beta’s housefrold suddenly went insane. She snaps at anyone in sight, crawls on all fours, and barks just like a hound.”
“The wolf healer could find no cause for her state. In the end, the Alpha and Beta personally went over to restrain her.”
My fingers tightened around my water goblet.
Days had passed ever since they stole that vial of blood.
Just as I suspected. They planned to cast the soul–exchange ritual once more, to let Lydia seize control of my body.
What they never anticipated was that the blood they’d collected belonged to a dog.
I stepped out of the ward and ran straight into Kane and Leon, who’d come to fetch me.
Kane picked up on my distress right away.
“What’s wrong?”
I recounted what I’d overheard and laid out my theory.
“If my guess holds, a dog’s spirit is trapped inside the maid’s human frame. The real maid’s soul is locked within the dog’s body.”
Leon asked no further questions, merely ordering his men to track the canine down.
That very night, Adrian and Julian brought the maid to the sorceress’s cottage.
We tailed them all the way to the dwelling.
Inside, the maid was strapped to a chair, writhing and thrashing nonstop.
She suddenly wrenched one hand free and lunged to bite Julian.
Julian shoved her hard onto the stone floor.
Yet she felt no pain whatsoever. She scrambled back onto all fours and barked wildly at him.
“Woof! Woof woof!”
Adrian’s face darkened with rage.
“Why is Evelyn untouched, while Lydia ended up trapped like this?”

The sorceress sliced the maid’s fingertip and let droplets of blood fall into a silver bowl. Grey mist swirled upward, shaping itself into the translucent silhouette of a dog.
“The soul inhabiting this body belongs to a dog!”
Adrian grabbed her roughly.
“What does this mean?”
“The blood you delivered came from a dog. The ritual swapped Lydia and the hound.” The witch answered.
“Swap them back!”
The sorceress shook her head, overcome with terror.
“It cannot be undone! When Lydia traded bodies with Cecilia before, her spirit already endured severe rejection. A second exchange would tear her soul completely apart!”
Silence crashed heavily over the chamber.
A cold laugh echoed from the doorway.
“So you finally know what fear feels like.”
Kane kicked the door wide open. I stepped in behind him alongside Leon, while several Silver Moon Pack guards dragged forward a large black hound bound in iron shackles.
The black dog thrashed violently the moment it spotted Adrian and Julian.
But when it twisted its head and laid eyes on me, its gaze burned with blazing hatred.
Adrian stared at the creature, every drop of color draining from his face.
“Lydia?”
The black dog froze, then scrambled frantically toward him, whimpering as though weeping.
Adrian rushed forward and pulled it into his embrace.
“It truly is you…”
Watching the scene, a slow, bitter sense of satisfaction settled deep within my chest.
Adrian whipped his head toward me, bloodshot eyes locked on my figure.
“You did this.”
“If you hadn’t stolen my blood, none of this would have befallen her.”
“You knew all along!”
Adrian’s features contorted. His lupine power burst forth. Bones cracked, black fur erupted across his

He snarled and lunged straight for my throat.
“Evelyn!”
Leon shouted in alarm.

The second his claws were about to graze my skin, an even larger silver–grey beast crashed into him from the side.
Boom!
The two colossal wolves slammed together mid–air with brutal force.
Adrian went flying backward. His huge lupine form smashed clean through the wall and tumbled more than ten meters across the ground.
Kane, in his silver–grey wolf shape, landed steadily before me, golden beast eyes fixed coldly on his foe.
Adrian struggled to rise and charged once more without hesitation.
Kane leaped to meet his attack, swatting a heavy paw across Adrian’s muzzle. He then sank his fangs into Adrian’s shoulder and slammed him hard to the ground.
Adrian howled in agony and tried to fight back, yet Kane’s forepaw pressed firmly against his neck.
“Lay a hand on her again, and I will snap your spine.”
“She turned Lydia into a dog!”
“You brought this fate upon yourselves.”
Kane bore down harder, drawing a pained groan from Adrian,
“You stole her blood and chose to carry out the ritual. Had you not craved to steal her body, Lydia would never have met this end.”
The black dog seemed to understand every word. It suddenly burst into furious barks directed at me, baring its teeth and straining against its restraints, desperate to tear me apart.
I met its gaze calmly.
“Do not be so hasty.
“This is only the start.”
