The sentence hung in the air, leaving the yard dead silent for half a second. 

Then, the news hit them like a bomb, and the crowd erupted into a frenzy. 

“What? That car belongs to Pierce?” 

“Amber, are you serious?” 

Amber dug her phone out of her purse, swiped rapidly, and held it up for everyone to see. 

A gallery of photos scrolled by. 

There she was, in the back seat of the exact same model, linked arm-in-arm with Pierce. 

She was leaning against the hood, the license plate clearly visible behind her. 

The angle, the color, and the sequence were identical to the car behind me. 

“See it now?”! 

Amber turned the phone around for a full rotation. 

“He used to drive this car to pick me up all the time. I took these photos back then just to remember it.” 

The crowd’s expressions shifted instantly. 

“So… Eleanor is the side piece?” 

“No wonder she wouldn’t post anything on social media. She was terrified of getting caught!” 

“And she actually had the nerve to drive her lover’s car to his own wife’s wedding? How thick-skinned can you get?” 

Amber stared at me, her mouth pressed into a thin, tight line. 

“Anything else to say for yourself?” 

The crowd started to surge. 

A few classmates pulled out their phones, lenses aimed straight at me. 

“Everyone, calm down, it’s not what…” 

“Trying to lie your way out of it?” Stacy cut me off, her finger nearly poking my eye. “The proof is right there! The whole class is watching!” 

Just then, a face I didn’t quite recognize squeezed from the back of the crowd.

He didn’t join in the heckling. Instead, he walked over to tny car and circled it once. 

“This car… something’s hat right,” he muttered under his breath. 

Stacy swung around to look at him. “Who are you?” 

“I’m Amber’s uncle by marriage.” The man in the grey jacket paused. “I served in the military. I’ve seen this type of car before. This isn’t a private vehicle.” 

Amber’s expression flickered. 

“Uncle, don’t talk nonsense. This is Pierce’s car. I’ve sat in it a dozen times.” 

The man frowned, looking like he wanted to argue. 

Amber stepped toward him, lowering her voice, her tone sharp and rapid, “Uncle, today is my big day. Could you not cause trouble?” 

The man looked at Amber, then at the car, finally sighing as he retreated into the crowd. 

Nobody cared what he’d said. 

Everyone’s attention was locked on me. 

Mr. Albright pushed through, his brow furrowed, standing behind Amber and lecturing me like a parent scolding a wayward child. 

“Eleanor, I taught you for three years. I never thought you’d turn into this kind of person.” 

“Don’t you ever go around mentioning you were my student. I can’t afford that kind of shame.” 

I looked at him. 

I didn’t explain. 

Because I couldn’t.

I had zero evidence I could present in public to prove my innocence. 

Amber knew that, too. 

She’d probably banked on the fact that I couldn’t defend myself from the start. 

“Eleanor, since you’re not talking, I’ll take that as a confession.”

Amber’s voice regained its cool, precise cadence. 

“How many years have you been Pierce’s mistress? One? Two? Or have you been obsessing over him since high school?” 

The audience grew larger, drawing in the local residents from around the township. 

People whispered amongst themselves. 

Others were livestreaming on their phones. 

Amber stood in the center of the red carpet, her wedding dress catching the sunlight, making her look like a pristine white flower. 

I was hemmed in by the crowd, standing across from her. 

Like someone on trial. 

“Since it’s the mistress who drove it here, I don’t think we need to keep this car around.” 

Amber walked toward the car and bent down, scooping up half a broken cinder block from the ground. 

“Amber, what are you doing?” Cara gasped. 

Amber didn’t hesitate. She swung the concrete piece directly at the window. 

THUD. 

The block bounced off. 

The window didn’t even show a hairline fracture. 

“What kind of car is this?” Amber blinked, surprised. 

Bulletproof, I answered silently in my head.
