Stacy grabbed a rock. “My turn!”
She threw her entire body weight into the strike.
It bounced off, too.
Not a single crack.
Noah grabbed a tire iron from somewhere and rushed over, swinging wildly at the headlights.
Clang! It rang out repeatedly, but the headlights remained perfectly intact.
“What is this made of? Iron?””
He backed away, drenched in sweat, refusing to believe it. He hacked at the hood a few mote times.
It left a few white streaks, but no real damage.
“This isn’t a normal vehicle,” I said. “You’d better stop. The consequences of damaging this aren’t something you can just cover with cash.”
Amber glared at me. “Who gave you the right to talk? This is my husband’s car. I’ll smash it however I
want!”
She kicked the door.
The metal didn’t budge.
Stacy cheered her on from the side, “Amber, forget the exterior! Smash the inside!”
She reached for the door handle.
It wasn’t locked.
The mob dove inside like they’d lost their minds.
Seats, dashboards, touchscreens-they slashed and kicked everything they could reach.
The key fob was ripped off and tossed out the window.
Someone popped the trunk, emptied it, and threw the tool kit onto the dirt.
I stood there watching them tear it apart. I didn’t stop them.
It wasn’t that I didn’t want to, it’s that I couldn’t.
They were in a blood-frenzied state, screaming at anyone who dared to intervene.

I pulled out my phone and dialed Director Harrison.
“Sir, my official vehicle is being vandalized.”
Before I could finish, my Hand went light.
Stacy had snuck up behind me, snatched my phone, and held it high above her head.
“Trying to call for backup? Who are you going to call? Your stable of sugar daddies?”
I reached to grab it back.
She stepped back and let go.
The phone tumbled from high up, hitting the concrete screen-first.
It shattered into a spiderweb of glass.
Stacy stepped on it and ground her heel in.
“There. No more snitching.” She flashed a smile. “Just take it, Eleanor.”
