Ch. The Forgotten Princess Who Became a Lycan Warrior 8 The Forgotten Princess Who Became a Lycan Warrior 8

Chapter 8

Half a month later, Aaron finally found out where I was and came to the Lycan Realm.

I had just walked out of the library when I looked down and saw him standing at the bottom of the steps.

He looked thinner than before, with dark circles beneath his eyes.

The moment he saw me, he seemed to let out a breath he had been holding.

“Jenna.” He hurried toward me, his voice hoarse. “I’ve been looking for you everywhere.”

I stopped walking.

Instead of running to him like I always had, I simply looked at him calmly, “Do you need something?”

Aaron froze.

He clearly hadn’t expected me to speak to him that way.

After all, the old me would have softened the moment I saw him, no matter how angry I’d been only seconds

before.

He tightened his grip on what he was holding and lowered his voice.

“Jenna, I was wrong. You should’ve been the one to attend Eclipse Warrior Institute.”

As he spoke, he held out the postcard he had carefully taped back together.

The crease across it was deep, and a strip of clear tape ran through the center of Divine Eye Lake like a

wound that could never truly heal.

“Jenna, I didn’t mean what I said back then.”

“Lydia wasn’t in good health. I was just afraid something would happen to her again.”

“I thought… you were so capable that you’d do well no matter where you went.”

“I’m sorry. I was the one who forgot our promise first.”

I looked at the postcard and smiled faintly.

That excuse again.

Because I was capable, I could be overlooked. I could be abandoned.

Lydia only had to be weaker, more fragile, a little slower, and somehow it became perfectly acceptable for

her to take everything that should have been mine.

I didn’t reach for the postcard.

“Aaron, do you remember my first night in that apartment?”

His face immediately turned pale.

I continued, “The drunk man next door kept pounding on my door. I hid under my blanket and called you ten

times.”

“You didn’t answer once.”

“Later, the power went out. I texted you because I was scared.”

“You told me to stop bothering you because you were tutoring Lydia.”

I looked him straight in the eye.

“When Lydia shoved me and I slammed my head into the mascot costume, you stood right there.”

“You comforted her instead.”

“Don’t be scared. No one’s blaming you.”

With every word I spoke, the color drained further from Aaron’s face.

He opened his mouth, wanting to explain.

But no explanation came.

Because every single thing I said was true.

The moments he brushed off so casually now had once been the longest nights of my life.

“Jenna…” His eyes reddened. “I really didn’t know things were that hard for you.”

I looked at him quietly, “It wasn’t that you didn’t know. You just believed I’d survive it.”

Aaron went completely still.

Silence stretched between us.

In the distance, people walked by beneath their umbrellas.

One by one, the streetlights flickered on.

The damp evening breeze carried the scent of rain and a freedom that still felt unfamiliar.

At last, Aaron spoke, his voice barely above a whisper, “Can… can I wait for you again?”

“With your grades, once you finish the Lycan Warrior Program, you’ll definitely be able to transfer to Eclipse

Warrior Institute…”

I lowered my gaze to the postcard in his hands.

Once upon a time, I had desperately wanted to attend Eclipse Warrior Institute.

Not only because it was the best academy.

But because he was there.

Later, I finally understood something.

Someone who truly waits for you would never turn away every time you needed them most.

I reached out and took the postcard.

Hope instantly lit up in Aaron’s eyes.

Then, slowly, I tore it in half.

“Aaron, I’m not going to Eclipse Warrior Institute anymore.”

“And you don’t have to wait for me either.”

The torn pieces drifted into the nearby trash bin.

Aaron remained frozen where he stood, his face drained of all color.

I never looked back.

Because my path no longer led to him.

It began beneath my own feet.
