He was kissing me.
For a second I wasn’t sure how to react. This was a man I had sworn to hate and punish if I
ever got the chance, and now he was kissing me. Had his kisses always been this intoxicating?
As I let my eyes flutter shut, the answer screamed at me from the back of my mind. Yes, they
always had been. It was how he had gotten me to bare myself to him that night in the first
place.
A part of me knew I should push him away. Had I ever pushed him away? He slanted his lips
and my thoughts faded away. Unthinking, I wrapped my arms around his neck, giving myself
the permission to enjoy his kiss just this once. I could pretend to not want his touch later, but
right now… Right now, I wanted it more than anything else. He dragged his tongue across my
bottom lip, asking for permission.
I parted my lips, a jolt of electricity surging through me the second our tongues met. He
curved his arm around my waist, pressing my body flush against him. I couldn’t hold back the
moan that escaped my lips. God, I’d missed him. I’d missed the feel of his hard, strong body.
The strength of his muscles. The warmth of his touch was both familiar and new at the same
time. The way he moved his hand to cradle my face and deepen the kiss ignited a fire I
thought had long been extinguished.
For a second I remembered we were standing out in the open, kissing like we were only a
second away from devouring each other. Deep down, I knew we were. It had always been like
this with us. One second we were testing the waters, the next we were diving in and heading
for the bottom of the ocean. “Logan, we can’t,” I murmured against his lips, hearing how weak
my words sounded.
I wondered if I had actually said the words I really wanted to; that I wanted him, because in

the next second he was gently steering me up the short stairs and pinning me against the
wall. My breaths came out faster, my around heightening. “Logan-” He was kissing me again.
This time, there was no doubt that the bond between us was still as strong as ever. It flared to
life around and between us.
His hands traced the contours of my back, sending shivers down my spine. I responded in
kind, my fingers threading through his hair, anchoring myself to the reality of what was
happening. As the intensity of our kiss threatened to escalate, a voice inside me whispered
caution. My heart completely torn apart, I gently pressed my hands against his chest, creating
a space between us. “Logan,” I said softly, my voice tinged with regret, “we need to stop.”
He paused, knowing I meant it this time. He searched my face, confusion and longing evident
in his eyes. “Why?”
“Because I need time,” I replied, stepping back. “Time to think, to understand what this
means. I emphasized, gesturing between us.
He pressed his lips together, but I could tell he understood. He nodded slowly, trying to put a
leash on his emotions. “How much time?”
“Three days,” I whispered immediately, hoping it would be enough.
He stepped forward, and I braced myself, expecting another kiss on my lips. Instead, he gently
touched his lips to the side of my head, lingering for a moment. “I’ll be back,” he promised, his
determination evident.
As he turned and walked away, I remained standing by the wall, my heart pounding as I
wondered if three days would be enough to make sense of the whirlwind of emotions he had
just stirred within me. Seconds after he was gone from my sight, I could still feel his touch on
my skin. I inhaled a deep breath, trying to steady my racing heart and gather my thoughts.
Just as I began to regain my composure, the sound of footsteps approaching pulled me back to
reality.

Chapter 51
Mara emerged from the woods, Elias’s small hand clasped securely in hers. “Hey mom,” Elias
called out, his face lighting up with joy. I rushed forward, scooping him into my arms and
holding him close. His familiar scent and warmth grounded me, reminding me of the
responsibilities that extended beyond my own conflicted emotions.
“Hey, sweetheart,” I whispered, pressing a kiss to his forehead. I met Mara’s gaze briefly. “Go
inside and change, okay? We’ll have dinner soon,” I said, setting him down gently. He nodded
and scampered into the cabin, leaving Mara and me alone on the porch.
Mara raised an eyebrow, a knowing smirk playing on her lips. “That was close,” she remarked,
crossing her arms.
I sighed, running a hand through my hair. “Thank goodness you thought fast enough to notify
me before we got to the cabin. Or Logan would have found out about… I trailed off, my throat
constricting.
Mara placed a reassuring hand on my shoulder. “Don’t overthink it. I made sure he was gone
before stepping out of the woods with Elias.”
A flush crept up my cheeks as I wondered if she had witnessed the moment between Logan
and me, but I didn’t dare ask. Instead, I nodded, grateful for her discretion. “You need to reach
a conclusion really soon,” She pressed gently. “No more stalling.”
I gave her a small smile that didn’t really reach my eyes. “I’ll try, I responded calmly.
She nodded like my answer was enough, gently placing her hand on my back and leading me
inside the cabin.
The next morning, I headed out to the shop, hoping that work would provide a distraction
after I’d spent almost all night fighting to not finish what Logan and I had started. As I
attended to customers, I couldn’t help but overhear snippets of conversation. Two women

stood near the counter, their voices hushed but animated.
“I heard Alpha Logan has been visiting our pack frequently,” one of them said.
The other woman’s eyes light up with excitement. “Yes, some say he’s discussing a
collaboration with our Alpha,” she pointed out.
I furrowed my eyebrows. A collaboration? I busied myself with organizing the shelves,

pretending not to listen. Relief washed over me. I wasn’t sure whether or not she was right, but
at least the other reason for Logan’s visits was still undiscovered.
Mara was right; I needed to make a decision before things spiraled out of control.
