I closed the last button of my shirt, staring at my reflection in the mirror. It was officially
three days since I’d last been to Sienna’s pack. I’d spent the last three days hoping she would
accept my apology and finally return to the pack with me, but if there was anything I knew
about Sienna, it was that she was full of surprises.
Deep down I knew it wouldn’t be so easy getting her to come back.
I was going to apologize. Properly. With gifts and a grand gesture. What I’d done was
unforgivable. Taking a shewolf’s virginity and having her escorted out of the pack was one of
the cruelest ways to treat her. And I’d done it to my own mate. No. I didn’t think some little
apology was going to fix it. I wanted her to know just how remorseful I was.
Hadn’t I felt guilty, even then?
I drew my eyebrows together as I fixed my hair. I couldn’t apologize the way I wanted to, the
way I needed to, with her being in a different pack. I didn’t want to raise any suspicions. She
was already unsafe as it was, after the ominous note I’d discovered in my study. Whoever was
behind the scheming, he had discovered her. I had failed her once, I was not about to fail her
again.
I stepped out of the room and headed downstairs, pleased to find the warriors I had earlier
sent for, already waiting for me. I met the gaze of the warrior who had brought the initial
report about Sienna. “Gather your men,” I commanded. “I want you all to keep an eye on her.” I
took a second to commit their faces to memory.
After everything that had happened with Bruce, it was understandable that I no longer trusted
anyone completely. “Do not reveal your true identities to anyone,” I continued. “None of the
pack members should be aware of your surveillance.” I waved my hand afterwards to dismiss
them, waiting a beat after they had left the mansion before I set out to Sienna’s pack.

Now familiar with the path to her cabin, it took me no time to get there. I didn’t bother
meeting with the Alpha, knowing the warriors would already assume it was the reason I was in
the pack. The small cabin came into view, and much like the last time, I matched up the few
steps to knock on the door. It wasn’t Sienna who answered this time.
I took a step back, coming face–to–face with the woman who had taken Sienna in after I’d
driven her away. She had silver hair and dark eyes and a calm expression that hinted at a quiet
wisdom. There was no surprise on her face as she closed the door behind her. I moved back to
make room for her to step forward.
“Logan, right?” She asked. I gave her a small nod. “I’m Mara. Sienna is living with me. She
mentioned you might come by.”
I nodded again, receiving her hand shake and offering a small smile. “Is she around?”
She shook her head. “She’s attending to something important. Should be back soon.”
I followed her to a long bench outside the cabin, the wood worn smooth by time. We sat in
silence for a moment, as I debated what to say to her. Somehow I knew she knew what my
connection to Sienna was, what I had done to her in the past. There was no disapproval on her
face, but I was completely convinced of it. I cleared my throat.” I should probably thank you,”
I began calmly. “For taking her in after my harsh treatment of her. I’m trying to make amends
now, correct my mistakes, but she…”
I trailed off.
Saying she wasn’t budging didn’t sound right because her reaction was justified. I had messed
- up. More than that, I didn’t want Sienna to think I was going behind her back, trying to win
over someone she probably respected. Or worse. Trying to poison their mind against her.
Luckily, Mara seemed to understand the words I could not say.
“Sienna… she’s been through a lot,” She said finally, her voice soft. “She’s strong, but even the
strongest need support.” She studied me for a moment, seemingly choosing the best advice to

give. “Be patient with her. She’ll eventually come around.” Before I could muster a response,
she was already standing and brushing off her pants. “I need to check on something in the
woods. I’ll be back shortly.”
I watched her disappear into the trees. Soon enough, the sound of footsteps pulled me from
my thoughts. I turned to see Sienna approaching, her expression a bit wary. She must guess
that I’ve spoken to her new guardian. “Logan,” she acknowledged, her voice neutral.
I stood, taking a step toward her. “Sienna. I wanted to talk.”
She crossed her arms, her eyes going a bit wide before they narrowed. “About what?”
Did I imagine the look of relief that crossed her face? “About you coming back to the pack
with me.”

She shook her head, frustration flashing in her eyes. “I told you I needed time.”
I pressed my lips together, only a heartbeat away from informing her of the note I’d found
back at the pack. I didn’t want to scare her. And a part of me wanted her to reach the decision
on her own. “I can’t help but worry.” I said vaguely. “I’m sure you know of the raid. With
everything going on, it’s not safe for you here.”
She looked away, her jaw tightening. “You want me to return so badly, but not everyone will be
okay if something starts brewing between us.”
A frown overtook my face. Was that what she was worried about? I reached out, gently
touching her arm. “You are my mate.” I reminded her. “The moon goddess paired us together
for a reason. And no matter what happens, we’ll always have that bond.” Her eyes met mine,
the tension between us crackling like a live wire. I smoothed my thumb against the inside of
her elbow, remembering just how crazy that bond had driven us that night.
Her breath hitched, and I knew she was thinking it too. Her gaze fell to my lips, and I couldn’t
stop myself.

Unthinking, I leaned in and crashed my lips against hers.
