Logan
I stepped into the court room, the scent of burning sage lingering in the air. The Omegas who
took care of the mansion must have only just finished with their routine cleaning. I made my way to the head of the table, lowering myself down on the chair and gesturing for them to do
the same. The weight of the announcement I was about to make pressed down heavily on my
chest.
I had decided to keep the letter from them at first, but I’d quickly realized keeping them in
the dark could possibly endanger them. The Inner Circle were strong enough to take the news.
More than that, I needed them to be on their toes with their safety and that of the pack’s. I
searched their faces, noting their looks of curiosity.
It wasn’t every time I gathered them in the court room to have a discussion. They were already
used to simply receiving orders after I had carefully deliberated on the topic for a while. I
cleared my throat, stretching my arm out. One of the warriors standing in the room stepped
forward and handed me the file where I’d placed the note. I dismissed him, wanting the Inner
Circle to be the first receivers of the news.
I unfolded the note and read the content aloud. “Taking a little break. The game has become
far more intriguing now that I’ve uncovered your little secret. Rest assured, when I return, I won’t just be playing, I’ll be ending it. For all of you.” I lifted my eyes, meeting every one of their gazes, their confusion evident. “The little secret is supposed to be Sienna, but right now, that is far from the point,” I began calmly. “Someone delivered this note to my study room.”
They began looking between themselves as my words echoed in the silence. “Yes, the identity of whoever had written and/or delivered is at the moment, unknown.” I passed the note to
Kael so they could read it for themselves. “What I intend to find out soon is how they had managed to get into the mansion, drop the note, and immediately leave without anyone
seeing or noticing anything.”

They all immediately got the message I was passing across; that a traitor still remained in the
pack. Only someone close enough to know the pack’s routine would be able to pull off the
kind of stunt the intruder had. Kael leaned forward, his brows knitted in thought. “We can’t
ignore this, Logan. The seers in the mountains might provide clarity. They’ve helped us
before.”
At his words I tilted my head, recalling that we had in fact visited a few seers in the past,
nevermind that they had never been able to explain what the prophecy had been all about.
Most seers were frustratingly vague, their insights invaluable yet often cryptic. Still, any
information was better than none.
I waited until the note had returned to me and everyone was nodding in agreement to Kael’s
suggestion, to speak. “Alright,” I agreed, meeting Kael’s gaze. Assemble a team for the journey.
You would be doing so without me, I believe you can handle it.” Kael’s nod was non-hesistant.
“Prioritize discretion, we don’t want to alert whoever’s behind this. And, My attention was
back to everyone. “I’m going to need you all to be more alert than ever. While I would like to
inform the pack of the looming threat, I believe we can hold off a little bit until we’re certain
they absolutely need to be informed.” There was a small frown on Nessa’s and Ayra’s face, but
I knew they would see reason.
As much as we needed the pack to be cautious going forward, we had to ensure we wouldn’t
be spooking them for no reason. I waited for them to take my words in, giving them room to
air their views and listening to them as they did so. Once they were gone and we had reached
a conclusion, I immediately dismissed them.
My thoughts went to Sienna.
Keeping her in the dark was the most dangerous decision of all, especially since she’d been
indirectly mentioned in the note. The more I thought about it, the more I wondered what I
was thinking, not informing her of the note sooner. She had said to give her at least three
days… But I wouldn’t be visiting her because I wanted to convince her to return. I just had to
warn her to be careful, and that was it.

I exited the courtroom, pushing back the tiny voice at the back of my mind that called me a
liar. So what if I was hoping she would let me kiss her again? She was still my mate, and one
could only resist the mate bond for so long.
It didn’t take too long for me to get to Mara’s cabin. I knocked, taking a step back and waiting
for either of them to answer the door. The door creaked open, revealing Sienna, her eyes
widening in surprise. “Logan?” she breathed, her voice laced with disbelief. She looked around
wildly. W-why are you here? It’s not three days yet.”
I tried to brush off the unsettling feeling in my chest. “I needed to warn you,” There was a
look of confusion on her face. “You need to be careful, Sienna… I think… I think someone
knows of our connection. I need you to inform me the second you feel threatened…” She
stepped outside, closing the door behind her with a soft click. Her hand found my arm,
guiding me away from the cabin.
“You need to leave,” she whispered urgently.
A cold dread buried itself in my chest. Had they already gotten to her? “Sienna, what’s going
on?” I asked as she continued leading me away from the cabin. She avoided my gaze,
her grip
tightening slightly.
“Please, just go.” I halted, turning to face her, searching her eyes for answers.
She didn’t seem like she had been threatened. “Is this about the kiss?” I asked, my voice barely
above a whisper. She shook her head, her expression conflicted.
“No, it’s not that. If you really want to talk, we need to go somewhere else- Before she could
get another word out, the sound of footsteps approached. Mara emerged from the woods, a
young boy by her side. The child spotted Sienna and immediately ran to her, wrapping his
arms around her waist. The words he said caused me to flinch.
“Hey, Mom!”
