I was cutting my toenails when a gentle knock sounded at the door. Elias raised his head from
where he lay on the couch but I gestured with my hands to let him know I was going to see
who it was myself. Heart pounding in my chest, I made my way to the door. Mara hadn’t been
gone for so long, so I immediately doubted it was her at the door. She’d said something about
having to meet a few people in the pack.
That only left one other guess…
I pulled the door open and found Logan standing on the other side, holding a small intricately
carved wooden box. Letting the door close behind me, I stepped out, bouncing my eyes from
the box to his alluring dark orbs. “I wanted to apologize, his words, a wave of guilt washed
over me. How long was I going to keep punishing him? I wanted more than anything to bridge
the
gap between us and for things to go back to the way they had been that night, but I
couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to do that.
I shook my head, taking a step forward. “No, Logan. I’m sorry. I been acting like a bitch,
keeping him from you-”
He laughed, but it was a self deprecating laugh. “It’s nothing I don’t deserve,” He said with
assurance. “I’d turned you away when you had been pregnant with my child-
“You didn’t know,” I reminded him.
He shook his head. “No, I didn’t,” He agreed solemnly, “But I never should have turned you
away in the first place.” I went silent because I couldn’t argue with that. He handed me the
box in his hands. “I got this for you,” He admitted a little nervously, handing me the cute box.
I couldn’t help the flush that stained my cheeks as I took it from him. Since when was he…
sweet? I uncovered the lid, taking in his gift.

Inside was a delicate bracelet adorned with tiny charms. His eyes met mine when I lifted my
head, his gaze filled with sincerity. “I’m sorry for all the pain I’ve caused you,” he began, his
voice soft. “I hope you and Elias consider returning to the pack, but I won’t force you.” I
covered the box, pressing my lips together. I would never admit it, at least not without
blaming it on the mate bond, but there was a small part of me that finally wanted to give our
relationship a chance.
I cleared my throat. “Elias… he’s still deciding whether he wants to move to the pack,” I
informed him. “But you’re welcome to spend time with him,” I added comfortingly. There was a
grateful look in his eyes.
“And you?” He asked when I was about to head back inside. I paused, turning my attention to
him. “Have you decided yet?” He inquired.
I looked away, unsure I wanted to let him know the truth yet. It’s best if I just hold on for
Elias to make a decision,” I murmured, retreating into the cabin. Finding Elias engrossed in his
toys, I approached him. He’d taken a rest from sketching after I’d helped put the pieces
together: that he’d been sketching his father most of the time without knowing.
“Your father’s outside,” I informed him, cupping his cheeks. “He’d like to spend some time with
you.”
His eyes lit up, and he quickly set his toys aside, eager to see Logan.
I walked into my room and placed the box on my nightstand before going back to filing my
toenails, letting the both of them spend some time together outside. A few minutes later,
Logan stepped inside alone. “Would it be alright if I took Elias to the clearing? I’d like to show
him a few things,” he asked. I considered for a moment before nodding. The clearing was
secluded, safe for them to hang out together. Still, I had to keep an eye on Elias to make sure
he didn’t forgetfully make use of his powers.
“I’ll come with you,” I decided. He inquired about Mara as I locked up the cabin, and I let him
know she was out attending to a few things at the pack. Elias took Logan’s hand as we made

our way to the clearing. It both healed and hurt me at the same time to see them both
together. I couldn’t help but feel sad at the years that had already gone by. Maybe we could
still do something about it.
I settled on a nearby rock, watching as Logan and Elias interacted. Their laughter echoed
through the trees as Logan demonstrated various techniques, Elias mimicking his every move
with enthusiasm. That bittersweet feeling washed over me again as I witnessed the bond
slowly forming between father and son. Again, I felt the sliver of hope that things hadn’t gone
beyond repair.
A familiar scent wafted through the air, only a heartbeat before Mara settled beside me,
brushing a stray leaf from her lap.
“I figured I would find you guys out here,” she said, her eyes following the duo in the clearing.
Logan glanced our way, a brief smile playing on his lips as he acknowledged Mara’s presence.
He returned his focus to Elias, demonstrating a series of movements with a grace that belied
his strength. Their bond was evident, a mixture of familiarity and newfound connection.
Eventually, they retreated to a larger rock, their conversation hushed but animated.
I was curious about what they were talking about, but I reminded myself Elias deserved this
time and privacy with his father. A sigh escaped me, unbidden. “It’s overwhelming,” I admitted
to Mara, my voice barely above a whisper. “The thought of uprooting Elias, of introducing him
to a world he’s never known… It’s daunting.” I informed Mara of the bracelet Logan had gifted
me and she seemed greatly pleased by it.
She reached out, her hand warm on mine as her words echoed in my head long after she’d said
them.
“Like I always say… you’ll cross that bridge when you get there.”
