The Lucan Marked Me - Chapter (66)

Chapter 66

The moment our feet neared Iron Fang territory, a chill ran down my spine.
My grip on Elias’s hand subconsciously tightened as I stared at the same borders I’d
accidentally wandered into all those years ago. Luckily, Elias seemed to draw strength from my
touch as much as I drew from his. Coming back to the pack was actually more difficult in
reality than I’d thought. As we continued walking further, I absentmindedly wondered if I
would actually be able to do this.
I had to remind myself that this was more for Elias than it was for me. I might have had bad
memories here, but he had none at all. And he deserved a chance to make good memories in a
pack he rightfully belonged to. As we crossed the pack’s borders, I noticed the small group
awaiting us. Warriors stood in formation around a few pack members, their expressions a
blend of respect, curiosity and happiness. At their forefront was Kael, the Lycan who had once
invited me to dinner on Logan’s behalf.
My eyes lifted to Logan’s, and I faintly realized he had arranged for a small group to be there
to receive and welcome us into the pack. I wasn’t sure if it was meant to comfort me-it
probably was—but if I was being honest, it only made me feel more under the spotlight. I held
unto Elias tighter, as a small number of the group began beating drums in celebration of our
arrival. I tried to keep my gaze ahead as we quietly followed the welcome party until we
arrived at what I quickly realized was the pack’s square.
Kael stepped in front of the much bigger crowd gathered at the square. His voice carried
across the surprising silence with authority and Logan quietly led Elias and I in front of the
crowd. “Iron Fang, behold your King’s mate and heir!” He announced joyfully. My face heated
up as cheers erupted from the gathered pack members. Elias looked up at me, eyes wide with
wonder, and I could only manage a small smile at him in return, squeezing his hand gently.

Chapter 66
I know honey, I thought to myself.
I was just as taken aback by the welcome as he was. It was certainly a contrast to the
memories I had of the pack. Perhaps Logan had made some announcements, perhaps things
had changed-or perhaps they were just better at hiding their true feelings. In no time the
pack square was buzzing with activity, swinging into a full on celebration I hadn’t at all
anticipated. Their joy was contagious and Elias’s excitement was palpable, his earlier
nervousness replaced by awe.
I envied his ability to embrace the moment without the weight of a lingering history.
Minutes later, we were quietly being led inside Logan’s mansion where we were then led to the
throne room. Unlike before when I’d basically been a prisoner and had been overwhelmed with
a crippling fear, now I could quietly take in the grandeur of the mansion. High ceilings
adorned with intricate carvings, exotic paintings, banners bearing the pack’s emblem, and a
throne that was simply… beautiful.
Logan took his place on the throne and Elias and I stood to one side while a familiar group of
five stood to the other. Vaguely, I recalled being introduced to them all those years ago. Elias
clung to my side, his earlier excitement giving way to a bit of awkwardness I understood
perfectly. I didn’t appreciate feeling like I was being scrutinized either. I placed a reassuring
hand on his shoulder, meeting his father’s steady gaze.
Logan made the re-introductions mentioning their roles in the pack, and I immediately
realized I was once again staring at the Inner Circle of the pack; Kael, Livia, Cassian, Nessa
and Elise.
Logan wordlessly gestured for me to cover Elias’s ears before informing the circle Elias and I
had been attacked in the pack we were coming from, letting them know someone had tried to
burn down our home while we were asleep. I watched their expressions morph into one of
horror before they quickly masked it for Elias’s sake. When Logan was done, I uncovered
Elias’s ears just as Logan’s voice echoed in the room.

“From this day forward,” he declared, “Sienna and Elias are to be treated with the utmost
respect and care. They are under my protection, and I expect each of you to assist them in
settling into our pack.” His words were met with rather understanding nods. I felt a mix of
gratitude and apprehension, uncertain of what this new chapter would entail.
After the formalities were over and done with, Logan dismissed the inner circle. He turned to
Elias and I with a softer expression on his face. Just then, an elderly woman with grey streaked
black hair walked into the throne room, her demeanor warm and welcoming. “This is Maurie,
my housekeeper. She’ll help you get settled in.” He informed us both.
Maurie turned to us, her eyes crinkling at the corners as she offered a gentle smile. “It’s a
pleasure to meet you both. Let’s get you to your rooms. We followed behind her as she led us
through the mansion’s corridors, guiding us to Elias’s room first. It was a beautiful room
adorned with toys and books and the breathtaking sight of the room immediately took the
tension out of my shoulders. Elias’s face lit up, his earlier tension forgotten.
“This is amazing!” he exclaimed, jumping onto the bed with glee.
Maurie chuckled, watching him with a fond expression in her eyes. “I’m glad you like it, Elias.”
Turning to me, she added, “Shall I show you to your room?” I nodded, following her down the
hallway.
She opened a door, and I stepped in after her, taking a look around and immediately realizing
whose room it actually was. His scent assailed my senses and I immediately knew I wasn’t
ready to be in such close constant proximity with me. I turned to Maurie. “Um, could I perhaps
have a guest room instead?” I asked, my cheeks flushing.
She blinked, then smiled knowingly but she didn’t look surprised. “Of course, dear. Right this
way.” She led me to another room, equally comfortable and properly arranged, and I faintly
realized she had been prepared for my reaction. Her smile was warm when she turned to me.
‘I’ll leave you to settle in. Dinner will be ready soon.”
