Logan
After giving my warriors detailed instructions regarding Mara’s cabin, I made my way back to
the mansion and headed straight to my room, expecting to find Sienna there. The room was
empty. Her scent was faint, letting me know she had been in the room, but she wasn’t present.
I scanned the room. And neither were her things. Frowning, I checked the other rooms,
skipping the room I already knew belonged to Elias.
Where had she gotten herself settled?
I opened and closed a few doors before I finally found her in a guest room almost at the far
end of the floor, completely focused on unpacking and placing her belongings where she wanted them. She didn’t hear me twist the doorknob, so I intentionally shuffled my feet to
gain her attention before stepping in. Her head immediately raised at the sound of my
shuffling.
“Hey, I greeted, leaning against the doorframe.
“Hey,” she replied in turn, placing a folded shirt into a drawer.
“I noticed you weren’t in my room,” I began, choosing my words carefully. Is there a reason
you chose this one instead?” I asked, making a show of looking around as though I was trying
to figure out what was so special about the room.
She paused, meeting my gaze when it eventually came back to her. “I just thought… I thought
it might be too soon for us to share a room.” Her gaze skidded away. “I need a bit more time.”
I nodded, understanding her hesitation. “Of course. Take all the time you need.”
A comfortable silence settled between us as she continued unpacking. I watched her, noting
how different she was compared to the last time she’d been in the mansion. She looked…

healthier. More mature. More responsible. She’d changed. So much. I faintly wondered if 1
would ever be able to truly mend the fence I’d broken. If she would ever give herself to me as
completely as she had in the past…
What if some things couldn’t be fixed?
“I’m really glad you’re here,” I said softly.
She looked up, offered a small smile. Her voice was strangely light when she responded. “Me
too.” I nodded, knowing I should let her carry on with unpacking, but unable to take my eyes
off of her. She flushed slightly under the weight of my stare.
Gods, she was beautiful.
་
Unthinking, I stepped closer, gently pulling her body flush against mine as I tilted her chin up
for a kiss. Her retreat was almost instant. She pressed her lips together, avoiding my eyes.
“Logan, I think we should take things slow.” I squeezed my eyes shut, letting her pull away and
reminding myself I deserved her hesitance. She’d given herself to me once and I’d taken it for
granted.
I took a step back, nodding. “Sure, we’ll go at Whatever pace you’re comfortable with.”
She gave me a small smile, the tension easing from her shoulders. “Thank you.”
“Get some rest,” I said, still putting some distance between us. “I’m certain dinner will be
ready soon.”
She nodded, and I left the room, closing the door softly behind me. I made my way to Elias’s
room to check on him. His door was open, and inside, Maurie was helping him put away his
clothes, both of them already chatting away like they were old friends. I paused by the
doorway, quietly watching the scene. He was bouncing excitedly from one corner of the room
to another, his laughter lighting up the space. Maurie was smiling at him in that motherly way
of hers.

I watched him pause his bouncing to hand her a crumpled shirt which she added to a heap of
other rumpled clothes. He handed her another shirt before picking up his bouncing, this time
on the bed. “Hey,” I said, stepping into the room, and making my presence known. Elias
turned to me with a grin, jumping down from the bed to give me a hug.
At least one person appreciated physical touch with me.
I ruffled his hair, unable to hold back my chuckle. “How’s the new room treating you, little
man?”
“It’s awesome,” He beamed, arms flung wide like he was trying to hug the entire room. “Did
you see the shelves? And the window? I can see the forest from here!”
I chuckled, stepping closer to where he was pointing. “Nice. You sure have the best room,
huh?” I asked with a laugh, humoring him.
Maurie gave me a knowing smile before slipping out of the room. “I’ll go check on dinner. He’s
all yours now, Alpha.”
Elias dropped onto the bed dramatically. “I told Maurie I wanted to add more books to the
shelf. I’m gonna read a lot here. And maybe she can get me a telescope too.”
“You’ve got big plans already, huh?” I teased, settling down beside him. “Are you settling in
okay?”
“Yeah,” he nodded seriously. “But… I think I’m gonna miss Mara. A lot.” Before I could
respond, Sienna stepped into the room, her eyes softening just the slightest bit at the sight of
the both of us. She walked over and ruffled Elias’s curls in the same way I had.
“You hungry, baby?” she asked gently. Elias nodded in answer to her question before meeting
my eyes, and I somehow knew he didn’t want me replying to his comment about Mara in front
of her. I gave him a subtle nod, my heart swelling with pride. He didn’t want his mother to
worry. Sienna and Mara had both done an excellent job with him.

Sienna’s gaze slanted to mine before she stared back at him, stretching her arm out. “Then I
think it’s time for a quick shower. We can’t go to dinner smelling like road dust.”
He groaned playfully but stood anyway. “Fine. But I want dessert after.”
“You drive a hard bargain,” she laughed, pulling him up. I stood as well, pressing a kiss to the
side of her head.
“I’m heading out on patrol with Kael,” I murmured against her hair. “I won’t be long.”
She met my gaze, and for a heartbeat, neither of us said a word. Then she nodded. “Be safe.”
“I always am,” I promised before turning to leave.
A fuzzy feeling settled in my chest.
She did care after all.
