The morning light filtered softly through the curtains as I stepped into Elias’s room. Like the
other times I’d been in the room, my breath left me at how beautiful it was. A part of me
hated the fact he wouldn’t have gotten to live like this without Logan, and I had to remind
myself he was Logan’s child too. I had to let Logan step in and do a few things now that we
were staying together.
Elias was already awake, sitting cross-legged on the bed and flipping through a picture book.
His hair was tousled, and his eyes lit up when he saw me. He hugged my midriff. “Good
morning mom, he greeted chirpily.
“Morning, sweetheart, I said, settling beside him. “How did you sleep?”
He grinned, “Like a log! This bed is so comfy.” Relief washed over me, knowing he was adjusting well. I ruffled his hair affectionately. “I’m glad to hear that. C’mon, go brush your
teeth and come downstairs for breakfast.” He nodded enthusiastically and hopped off the bed.
Downstairs, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and sizzling bacon greeted me. Maurie was
bustling around the kitchen, her movements graceful and efficient. “Good morning,” I greeted, stepping into space with her. She easily reminded me of Mara and seemed just as warm. She
turned with a smile, “Morning, dear. Hope you slept well?” I nodded, “Yes, thank you. Dinner
last night was… pleasant.”
I didn’t say surprisingly pleasant like I really wanted to, but she must have already guessed it
herself.
Maurie chuckled, “Logan has a way of making people feel at home when he really wants to.” Vaguely, I wondered if she remembered how he’d treated me in the beginning. I leaned against
the counter, watching her expertly flip pancakes. “This house is beautiful,” I remarked
honestly.

She glanced around, pride evident in her eyes. “It’s been in the family for generations. Logan
takes great care of it.”
Just then, footsteps echoed from the staircase. Logan entered the kitchen, Elias trailing behind
him, both looking refreshed. My heart dipped and began beating wildly. Logan must have just
gotten out of the shower. His hair was still a little wet and he smelled… divine. I scolded
myself to keep it together. “Good morning,” The center of my thoughts greeted, his gaze
meeting mine.
“Morning,” I replied, offering a small smile. Elias ran up to me, wrapping his arms around my
waist and telling me how his father had helped him get ready.
As we gathered around the table, Maurie began setting down plates of food. “Join us, Maurie,”
I offered, gesturing to the empty chair. She shook her head gently, “Thank you, but I have
some errands to run.” With a warm smile she left the room, leaving the three of us to our
meal. I glanced at Elias, who was eagerly digging into his pancakes.
“So, Elias, I began, “how do you feel about joining the academy here in the pack?” He paused,
a bite halfway to his mouth, and looked thoughtful.
He shrugged, “I don’t know…” His gaze bounced between Logan and me. “What if I don’t make
any friends?” My heart lurched as the sadness in his eyes. Before I could say a word to him,
Logan leaned in, his voice reassuring as he patted his hand on the table.
“I think you’ll find that the kids here are friendly. You’ll fit right in.” Elias only managed a
small smile at his words.
I nodded in agreement, “We can go check it out together when you’re ready. No pressure.” I
informed him. His smile became a little brighter, the worry in his eyes easing slightly. As we
finished our meal, Logan stood up, placing a gentle kiss on Elias’s head. He then rounded the
table and came to me, pressing a soft kiss to my temple. “I have a few things to take care of,”
he murmured. “If you need anything, don’t hesitate to speak to any of the warriors.”

I nodded, unable to speak past the wild fluttering in my belly. Suddenly it was five years ago
all over again and I was insanely affected by this man. I cleared my throat and turned to Elias
when Logan had completely left the room. “Would you like to take a walk around the pack?” I
asked.
His eyes lit up, “Yes, please!”
I chuckled at his excitement, “Alright, let me change into something more fitting, and then
we’ll head out.” I went upstairs, choosing a comfortable outfit for our walk. I informed the
warriors where we were headed, turning down their offer to walk with us and just asking for
directions only. It wasn’t like I’d completely forgotten my way round the pack.
We walked for a few minutes before we began approaching the training grounds. The distant
sounds of grunts and the clash of weapons grew louder with each step we took. Upon reaching
the clearing, we saw older wolves engaged in intense sparring sessions, their movements fluid
and precise. Elias’s eyes widened in awe, his mouth slightly agape as he watched them.
“Whoa,” he whispered, his voice filled with admiration.
His fascination with their movements didn’t surprise me. Elias had always been drawn to the
warriors in Mara’s pack. He had definitely gotten that from Logan. It was heartening to see
him so captivated, a spark of excitement in his eyes I had feared would be put out after we’d
moved to Logan’s pack. I moved my attention from Elias to the warriors. They really were
graceful.
Elias turned to me, his face alight with curiosity. “Do you think I could be like them one day?”
he asked.
I placed a hand on his shoulder, squeezing gently. “If you train as much as they do?
Absolutely,” I replied, enjoying the look of joy on his face. We stood there for a while longer,
taking in the scene. Eventually, I nudged him gently.
“Time to head back home,” I informed him, the last word catching slightly in my throat. Elias

didn’t seem to notice, nodding enthusiastically as he turned to leave.
Home? I couldn’t help but ask myself.
I felt a pang of guilt.

I’d wanted to fight it for as long as I could, but apparently that wasn’t long at all. I couldn’t
help but wonder…
Was this finally where we truly belonged?
