I tossed the pills into my mouth and washed them down with a full of water.
Even now I still remembered how embarrassed I’d been while I’d been paying Elise a visit, despite how calm her aura had been. She was a little older than the other members of the Inner Circle, with silver streaked black hair and dark brown eyes. She had pale skin, was lean but strong and somehow still had an empathetic feel about her despite the horrible things she must have seen and endured as a member of the
Lycan pack.
I’d blushed while informing her of the reason I’d visited her shop. The ghost of a smile playing along her lips and the excited look in her eyes had been the only indication of how pleased she had been with the news. She’d given me the pill, instructed me on how to use it and then asked me to drink some liquid before leaving. Curious, I’d asked what the liquid was for but her only reply had been, “Let’s just say Logan
would have a hard time keeping his hands off you.”
And then she’d winked at me.
I’d blushed, of course, since it seemed it was all I could do these days. And then I thanked her and left the shop. I’d been more than curious to find out what effect the liquid would have on Logan but he’d already left the mansion by the time I’d arrived back. Anticipation had pricked my skin, and even now, hours later
-I couldn’t help but still excitedly look forward to his return.
I drank a bit more water and then set the bottle down on my nightstand before picking up the book I’d
been reading. I wasn’t sure how long I spent reading the true romance stories of Lycan Kings who had ruled long before Logan’s own father had been born, but eventually I drifted to sleep. The alarm going off a few metres from my head had me waking up. Groggily, I realized I’d fallen asleep for almost two hours.
It was a few minutes past noon and the warriors Logan had appointed to set up the monitor in Elias’s room
had to be on their way. I fixed my hair and face and then walked downstairs to await their arrival. They
were right on time, arriving at the mansion by exactly twelve thirty. I’d quickly learned that time was in its
own way, a language with which the Lycans communicated in the pack. You gave someone your word that
you were going to be somewhere at a particular time, and you ensured nothing stopped you from being
there.
“Welcome,” I greeted the warriors, immediately leading them up the stairs to Elias’s room. I hung around

for a few minutes, before leaving them to finish up with their work. I headed for my bedroom and shut the
door, driving the deadbolt before walking into the bathroom to shower. It was nearly time for the academy
to wrap up for the day, and I was supposed to pick Elias up today.
I stepped out minutes later and dried myself up before changing into something presentable. I fixed my
hair and walked out to check up on the warriors. They were wrapping up as I stepped in, and they handed
me a small device which I’d used to check in on Elias whenever I wanted to. I listened as they explained
how I was going to use it and then I offered them a small smile afterwards. “Thank you,” I said softly.
They bowed subtly, handing me three more of the devices and informing me Logan had ordered one for
himself and the housekeeper. I gave them a brief nod, walked them to the door, then headed back upstairs
to tuck the devices into my drawer. I picked up my purse on my way out of the house and immediately
headed out to the academy.
I took the gravel path that curved toward the academy, my boots crunching lightly with each step. It still
felt strange walking around like I belonged. Wolves I didn’t know nodded politely as I passed, and I offered
small smiles in return, not yet used to the attention. The academy’s building soon came into view. I could
pick up the echo of children’s laughter as I walked past the gates.
Elias spotted me first.
“Mom!” he shouted, running towards me with his backpack bouncing behind him.
I crouched just in time to catch him in my arms. “Hey, sweetheart.” I greeted on a laugh, hugging him
tightly. I loved how cheerful he always was. “Did you have fun today?”
He nodded enthusiastically, stepping back and immediately beginning what I knew would be a very lengthy
and detailed narration of how his day had gone. We began the walk back to the mansion, their journey
back somehow shorter now that I was with him. I lightly nudged him upstairs. “C’mon, go have your bath
and come back down.” The monitors had been subtly placed in his room so he didn’t feel awkward.
I stepped into the kitchen and immediately began preparing a light lunch. I was cleaning the island surface
when Elias sauntered into the kitchen in shorts and a small vest. In my distraction, I accidentally knocked
over the cup of drink sitting on the kitchen counter. Fortunately, Elias was quick to react. He stretched out
his arm and held the cup in the air, together with the drink already pouring out.
Relief coursing through me, I watched him place the cup back on the counter, complete with the drink without letting a single drop touch the floor. He looked at me when all was done, his eyes gleaming with

excitement just as I knew mine was beaming with pride. “Whoa,” I said with exaggerated surprise, letting my mouth fall open. He laughed, covering the distance between us to receive my high five. I hugged him, kissing the top of his head. “That was a terrific save darling,” I said to him.
He was about to respond when I noticed the figure standing by the doorway.
The blood in my veins chilled as I met Logan’s shuttered expression.
Dear goddess, he’d just witnessed that.
