Chapter 87

Logan

I wasn’t sure what I’d just seen.

No, I was sure, I just didn’t want to believe it. I watched Sienna pale as she realized I had in fact just caught our son using abilities that were rumoured to not exist. My son-my heir, had special powers. Not clumsy movement, not dumb luck. Power. Real powers. My jaws clenched as I tried to make sense of it. A thousand questions floated in my mind. How? Why? For how long? Sienna hadn’t been surprised. No, if anything she’d congratulate him. Meaning she hadn’t been in the dark as I was.

And was it only a coincidence that I had never known until now?

I didn’t think it was.

I was willing to bet she’d asked him to keep them from me. And that cut the most. I’d been trying to mend the relationship between us, and all the while she’s been keeping something as important as this from me. I clenched my hands into loose fists by myself, telling myself to rein in my emotions. I had Elias to think about. The last thing I wanted to do was scare him or ruin the bond that had slowly begun forming

between us.

But gods, I felt like driving my fist into the wall.

I leaned a hand against the doorway, willing myself to breathe. Sienna still had her arms wrapped around him, but only because she was giving me time to come to terms with what I’d seen before Elias realized I was in the room. Or perhaps she didn’t want him to know I’d seen him at all? The latter was suddenly more

plausible than the former, especially with the look in her eyes. The one that begged me not to panic, or

question.

I moved my attention to the counter. The cup in question was made of glass and yet it hadn’t shattered on

the floor like it should have.

It had hovered and then gently returned to the counter like it had never fallen at all. Even despite the

drink that had been in it. I wasn’t hallucinating. The way Sienna stood as still as a statue with a guilty

expression on her face was proof of that. I didn’t think I’d ever felt so angry at her. Not even when I’d

found out she’d had my child and kept him from me. I didn’t think there was ever a time I’d felt this much

hurt and pain and still I wanted to drag her upstairs and sink my cock into her.

Chapter 87

The thought would have startled me, if I didn’t already know what I was being affected by. Her scent was a

thousand times stronger than it usually was, and without a doubt I knew when she’d gone to take the pill,

Exse must have also given her the mate elixir, made to enhance a shewolf’s scent to her mate, no doubt

thinking she was doing some kind of good, which she would have if I hadn’t walked into the closely

guarded secret my mate had been hiding from me.

I took a breath, putting a leash on my emotions. A heartbeat later, Elias turned around. Clearly her plan

had worked, because he seemed to have no idea I’d watched him stop the cup from falling. I was hurt that

he’d been careful to keep his abilities from me, but I knew it was no fault of his. He was too transparent to

not have been following someone’s instructions, clearly Sienna’s. “Dad,” he beamed, wriggling free from her

and running toward me.

I crouched and caught him as he launched into my arms, burying my face briefly in his shoulder. Abilities

or not, rare bloodlines or not, I knew nothing was going to change when it came to him. He was still my

child, my heir. “Hey, bud,” I said, keeping my voice steady. “How was the academy today?” I asked.

“It was cool,” he answered plainly, pulling away from me. I let him pull me towards the dining table.

Sienna, who had been standing frozen in place, finally seemed to shake herself from the daze. She couldn’t

read the expression on my face, I knew, because I was carefully keeping it from her. Let her wonder and

beat herself up about the extent of my anger.

Until I had the chance to show it to her.

We sat down for lunch, Sienna quietly sliding plates across the table, her fingers brushing mine by

accident, except nothing about her touch had ever felt like an accident. She moved around the kitchen as

though she hadn’t just watched her son defy the natural order. I wondered if she could do the same thing.

If she also had the abilities, or if it had just been someone in her family.

Despite the flood of emotions storming through me, I managed to keep a light tone for Elias, listening to

him chatter about the academy. I listened. I smiled. I pretended, just as the two people dearest to me had

been pretending this whole time. Finally the meal was over and I was put out of my misery. Sienna nudged

Elias gently. “Go freshen up, hun. I’ll tuck you in for a nap in a few minutes.”

He scampered off without protest, and my eyes immediately went to hers.

“I’ll be in the room,” I stated simply.

Her lips parted like she might say something, but she just nodded. I walked away before I could say

something I’d regret. Or worse, something I’d actually mean. I reached my room in only a few seconds,

closing the door behind me and pacing my room as the image of Elias holding the cup in the air flooded

back. I didn’t hear the door creak open, but I felt her the moment she stepped in.

“Close the door,” I said, my voice dangerously low.

There was a pause, and then the soft click of the door meeting its frame. A tense silence settled in the

room until I turned to face her, and broke it.

“You better start fucking explaining.”
