Chapter 18
LOGAN’S POINT OF VIEW
I was livid.
My heart hammered against my ribs as I stared at the photos on my phone, each one feeding the heat crawling beneath my skin. Ava. In a hotel. With another man.
The last picture had caught them just before they stepped into the elevator, his hand resting against
the small of her back.
Fenrir snarled inside me.
My fingers tightened around the phone until my knuckles turned white.
Ava.
She couldn’t have.
The room suddenly felt too small. I dragged a hand over my face, trying to steady my breathing, but every time I closed my eyes, I saw that man’s hand on her.
A glass touched the table beside me.
Celine stood there, watching me carefully.
“I’ve seen all the photos already.” She slid the glass closer. “Ava is utterly shameless. So this is how she gets her projects? By sleeping with Alphas?”@
My fist slammed into the table.
The glasses rattled.
“Enough.”
Celine didn’t flinch. If anything, her eyes sharpened with interest.
“Why are you so angry?”
I looked at her.
She tilted her head, the corner of her mouth lifting.
“Could it be that you’re jealous?”
“Jealous?”

The word came out harsher than I intended.
I pushed away from the table.
“I don’t like Ava.”

Celine’s expression softened immediately, almost as though she’d been waiting for those words.
“No matter what you say, Ava is still your mate in public.” She folded her arms. “And now the entire
pack knows she’s been getting close to other Alphas to secure alliances. Are you really going to let her drag your name through the mud?”
My jaw tightened.
“No.”
I looked down at the photos again.
“Ava was probably just trying to get closer to him.”
Even as I said it, the excuse tasted bitter.
I didn’t know who the man was. I didn’t know what had happened inside that hotel room.
But the thought of Ava actually cheating on me-
My stomach twisted.
“She cheated on you, and you’re still defending her?”
Celine’s voice rose.
I glanced at her.
Her eyes were already shining with anger.
“I’m not defending her.”
“Then what are you doing?”
I exhaled sharply.
“Ava is the eldest daughter of Evander. She has a reputation to maintain. She shouldn’t have to sleep with Alphas just to secure a business relationship.”
Celine gave a humorless laugh.
“But she didn’t come home last night, did she?”

“She’s always liked attention,” Celine continued. “Maybe she finally decided to take it a step further.”
My mouth opened.
The words were already forming on my tongue.
But I swallowed them.
I didn’t want another argument.
It was true that Ava had always attracted attention. She enjoyed being noticed, and there had been
plenty of nights when she’d disappeared into clubs with Nyx.
But that didn’t mean she’d-
I stopped myself.
I didn’t want to believe it.
Ava could be reckless. She could be stubborn. She could enjoy men looking at her.
But sleeping with someone for a projects?
No.
She wouldn’t lower herself that far.
Unless…
My eyes narrowed.
Alpha Kion.
His name surfaced in my mind.
I knew he’d arrived with his Beta a few days ago. If Ava wanted to secure a connection with him,
perhaps she’d gone too far trying to make it happen.
Then another thought struck me.
She hadn’t come home last night.
My chest tightened.
I grabbed my phone.

Eer several seconds, I simply stared at Nyx’s name before finally pressing call.
The phone rang.
Once.

Twice.
Then-
“Hello?”
“Nyxelle, it’s me. Alpha Logan.”
“Oh. Is there something you need?”
I kept my voice controlled as I asked, “I wanted to ask about what happened at your store last night.”
“My store?”
“Yes.”
There was a pause before she answered.
“My store was closed yesterday. It was a public holiday.”
The room seemed to fall silent around me.
“What?”
“I said the store was closed. Why?”
I didn’t answer. My fingers slowly loosened around the phone as her words sank in.
Closed.
Then Ava hadn’t been there.
She had actually spent the night at that hotel.
My throat tightened as an unsettling question pushed its way into my mind.
Who had she been with?
I ended the call and immediately called Ava.
Once.

The call didn’t go through.
I tried again, pressing the phone tighter against my ear as I waited.
Nothing.
A pulse throbbed against my temple.
“Tala.”
I immediately called her instead.
“Find Ava.”
“Alpha?”
“Find her location.”
There was a brief silence on the other end before she answered, “I’ll get back to you.”
“Five minutes.”

I ended the call and stared at the phone in my hand. The seconds dragged by, each one seeming longer than the last.
Then my phone vibrated.
I looked down.
A location.
Crescent Moon Hotel.

Heat rushed through me again, and I shoved the phone into my pocket before pushing myself to my feet.
Celine immediately followed.
Neither of us spoke as we crossed the packhouse and headed toward the hotel.
She actually had the guts to do her dirty business outside the pack, where she thought no one could see her.
With every step, my thoughts became darker.
I was going to find her.
I was going to look her in the eyes and make her tell me exactly what happened.

But when we reached Crescent Moon Hotel, my steps slowed.
The anger I’d carried all the way there suddenly collided with something else.
Doubt.
What if I was wrong?
What if those photos didn’t mean what I thought they did?
I stopped.
Celine nearly walked into me.
“What’s wrong, Logan?”
I stared at the hotel entrance.
“… Let’s go back.”
Her brows pulled together.
“Why?”
“Making this into something bigger than it is won’t do us any good.”
The words barely left my mouth before Celine’s voice cut through the silence.
“Logan.”
I looked at her.
“Have you fallen in love with Ava?”
My expression hardened.
“What are you talking about?”
“If you don’t love her, why won’t you divorce her?”
“Celine-”

“I’ve heard it a hundred times.” Her voice trembled. “The family business needs her. The pack needs
her. The alliance needs her.”
She stepped closer, her voice trembling as she said, “Business. Business. That’s all you ever think
about.”

Her eyes glistened with tears, and she quickly blinked as though trying to hold them back.
“What about me?”
I stared at her, caught off guard by the question. For a moment, I searched for something to say, but
nothing came.
Celine turned away, brushing the tears from her cheeks with the back of her hand.
I glanced around the hotel. A few people had already started looking in our direction, their attention lingering a little too long.
The last thing I needed was a scene here.
I sighed and stepped toward her.
“Okay. Stop crying.”
I rested a hand on her shoulder.
“Come on.”
She didn’t answer.
“I’ll take you upstairs. Pick whatever you want.”
That finally made her look at me.
Crescent Moon Hotel wasn’t merely a hotel. Its third floor housed some of the most expensive luxury
stores in the city, while the upper floors opened into gardens and private entertainment spaces.
Celine’s expression softened as she slipped her arm through mine, and together, we headed upstairs.
The moment we entered one of the boutiques, I stopped.
Ava was there.
For a second, neither of us moved. My gaze swept over her, searching the place without meaning to. There was no man beside her. No Alpha Kion. Just Ava.
A strange relief loosened something inside my chest.
“Tala said you were meeting a client.”
My voice came out colder than I intended.
Ava looked at me. “Yes. I just finished.”

Her voice was calm, almost too calm,
“I came upstairs to look around.”
Celine gave a quiet scoff beside me. “You just finished sleeping, didn’t you?”
Ava’s brows drew together. “What?”
I shot Celine a warning look.
“Enough.”

She rolled her eyes before tightening her hold on my arm. “Come on. I want to see something.”
I let her pull me away, but my eyes betrayed me, they kept glancing back to Ava.
She had several shopping bags beside her.
Clothes.
Shoes.
Bags.
Even small household items.
I frowned.
Ava shopped occasionally, but this was excessive.
Why had she bought so much?
My mind immediately supplied the answer I didn’t want.
Had that man given them to her?
The thought left a sour taste in my mouth.
I looked away.
Don’t be ridiculous.
Yet the more I tried to dismiss it, the more the image returned.
Ava stepping into that elevator.
That man’s hand against her back.

The hotel.
The missing night.
My jaw clenched.
Maybe Celine was right.
Maybe I’d been defending Ava because I didn’t want to admit what she’d done.
Or maybe I simply couldn’t accept that my mate would betray me.
Either possibility irritated me.
“Logan.”
I looked down.
Celine was holding up another expensive item.
“I want this.”
I nodded.
“Take it.”
Her smile widened.
Half an hour later, she’d already spent hundreds of thousands of my money.
Every time she picked something up, she’d glance toward Ava.
Then she’d turn to me.
“Ava, you don’t mind, do you?”
Ava’s gaze lifted.
For a moment, her eyes met mine.
There was something unreadable in them.
Then she gave a faint smile.

“Celine has contributed a lot to the pack’s growth. If she secured the cooperation you couldn’t, she deserves a reward.”
I heard the defensiveness in my own voice.

“Celine is very capable.
Ava’s smile barely moved.
“You should reward her.
Then she lowered her gaze to her phone.
Something about the way she did it made my chest tighten.
She was pretending not to care.
I knew that much.
And somehow, instead of making me feel guilty, it annoyed me.
Why should I feel guilty?
Ava was the one-
I stopped myself.
I didn’t want to think about it.
Celine, meanwhile, looked entirely satisfied.
She turned and began walking toward another display.
“I want this one.”
Ava had just reached for a delicate hair ornament when Celine’s voice stopped her.
Celine pointed toward the accessory.
“That hair clip.”
The shop assistant immediately stepped forward.
“I want that.”
