AVA’S POINT OF VIEW

Seeing that I hadn’t answered, Celine quickly reached past rne and pulted Logan toward my side just as my fingers were about to close around the hair clip.

“Logan, I like this one. Buy it for me.”

“But…”

Logan’s eyes flicked toward me.

For a moment, he stood there caught between us, his mouth opening and closing as though he

couldn’t decide which answer would cause him less trouble.

A humorless smile tugged at my lips.

He knew.

He knew perfectly well that every piece in this shop was handmade and one of a kind. If he bought this

for Celine, I wouldn’t get another chance at it.

Celine seemed to notice his hesitation too.

She turned toward me, her expression taking on that sweet little smile that never quite reached her

eyes.

“Ava, you’re not going to try to take this hair accessory from me, are you?” she asked. “I’m a major

contributor to the pack now.”

The words were innocent enough.

The way she said them wasn’t.

Something hot curled in my stomach.

Beside me, Karla’s growl rumbled low in my mind, her claws scraping against the edges of my control.

She wants you to react.

I swallowed.

I know.

Then let me react for you, Karla said.

A breath cscaped me, almost a laugh.

Not here.

Karla huffed, but she retreated, though I could still feel her pacing restlessly beneath my skin.

Logan, apparently oblivious to the silent battle taking place inside me, nodded.

“Yes. Celine has a point.”

Of course he did.

“How about this?” he continued. “Neither of you needs to argue over it. Naya will be starting Cub Academy in a few days, so I’ll give the hair accessory to her as a gift.”

Celine’s lips curved immediately.

“That’s a good idea, sister-in-law.” She looked at me. “You wouldn’t want to take something as petty as a hair clip from a child, would you?”

I met her gaze.

My fingers slowly curled at my sides.

Four years old.

A hair accessory worth nearly hundreds of dollars for a four-year-old.

The excuse was so ridiculous that I almost laughed.

It was supposed to be a gift for Naya, a little something to celebrate her moving from kindergarten to Cub Academy.

But we both knew who it was really for.

Celine.

My eyes settled on Logan.

So this was how easily he could justify giving his mistress whatever she wanted.

My chest tightened, but I kept my face still.

Karla wasn’t nearly as patient.

Her growl deepened.

Let me tear that smug smile off her face.

Lwas just about to speak when the shop assistant hurried over, her hands clasped nervously in front

of her.

“I’m sorry, customer, but this hair accessory has already been pre-ordered.”

Celine’s smile disappeared.

“By who?”

The assistant hesitated.

The poor woman looked even more uncomfortable.

Celine crossed her arms.

“Hmph. How can you call it a reservation if they haven’t paid? I don’t care. I’m buying it today.”

Her voice carried through the store.

The assistant glanced helplessly toward the counter before finally turning around and hurrying toward

the back.

I folded my arms.

Celine immediately slipped hers around Logan’s.

I stared at their linked arms for a second.

They weren’t even trying to hide it anymore.

Karla gave an unimpressed snort.

Embarrassing.

I nearly agreed.

A few minutes later, the store manager returned.

Celine immediately stepped forward.

“You kept me waiting long enough. What happened?”

The manager bowed slightly.

“I apologize, customer. The gentleman who pre-ordered the hair accessory has already completed the payment.”

Celine’s brows shot up.

“What?”

Her voice cracked with disbelief.

The manager said nothing,

Instead, she turned toward the counter

A moment later, the hair accessory appeared inside an exquisite box, carefully wrapped as though it

were something far more valuable than a simple piece of jewelry.

Then the manager walked straight toward me.

I frowned.

She stopped in front of me and held it out with both hands.

“Luna Ava, this belongs to you.”

My fingers remained suspended in the air.

“What?”

Celine went completely still.

Even Logan looked caught off guard.

The manager smiled politely.

“The gentleman who ordered it instructed us to give it directly to Luna Ava.”

Silence.

I slowly accepted the box.

It felt strangely heavy in my hands.

Not because of the accessory.

Because of the three sets of eyes fixed on me.

Celine’s expression hardened so quickly it was almost amusing. The surprise that had flashed across her face disappeared, replaced by a tightness around her mouth and a sharp glint in her eyes.

Logan, however, looked genuinely stunned.

“Gentleman?” Celine asked, her voice suddenly strained.

“Yes.”

“Who?”

The manager offered an apologetic smile and gave a small shake of her head.

“I’m sorry, but I was only instructed to deliver the item.”

Celine’s jaw tightened.

I didn’t have to look at her to know how furious she was. I could feel the weight of her stare burning into my back, especially after the certainty she’d carried only moments ago.

And honestly?

A tiry smile tugged at the corner of my mouth.

She had been so sure she was walking out of this store with that hair accessory. Now, she could only

stand there and watch as it was placed in my hands instead.

Karla purred inside me.

I like him.

I nearly laughed.

Instead, I closed the box and hugged it lightly against my chest before turning toward the exit.

I had barely taken two steps when Logan’s voice stopped me.

“Ava.”

I looked over my shoulder.

“And where do you think you’re going?”

My gaze moved slowly over him before settling on his face.

“I came here alone. I might as well leave alone.”

His expression shifted.

“You’re going home by yourself?”

“You came here with your sister.” I glanced at Celine “So you should leave with her.”

His face tightened.

Celinc’s grip on his arm immediately became firmer.

I didn’t wait for whatever excuse he was preparing.

I turned and walked away

The elevator doors opened, and I stepped inside.

Only when they closed behind me did I allow my shoulders to drop.

I pulled out my phone, my fingers already moving before I could change my mind. My thumb hovered over Alpha Lucian’s name for a moment before I finally typed.

Me: Are you the one who gave me the hair clip?

His reply came almost immediately.

Alpha Lucian: No.

My brows drew together.

Me: Really?

I waited.

Nothing.

The screen remained stubbornly quiet as I stared at his reply, my thumb hovering uselessly over the

keyboard. After a few seconds, I let out a quiet breath and locked my phone.

“Fine.”

I slipped it back into my bag.

I hadn’t even taken another step when my phone rang again.

I glanced at the screen.

Isla.

Logan’s mother.

My stomach sank.

For a second, I considered letting it ring until she gave up. Knowing her, she probably wouldn’t. I

sighed and answered.

“Hello…”

“Is that your greeting your mother in law?”

Her sharp voice immediately made my fingers tighten around the phone.

I swallowed and forced the words out.

“Good day, Mum.”

Even the greeting felt bitter on my tongue.

“I need you to be at my place right now.”

She didn’t give me a chance to ask why. The call ended, leaving only the faint silence of the

disconnected line.

I stared at the screen.

Of course.

I slipped my phone back into my bag just as the elevator doors opened again.

Logan and Celine stepped out of the store.

Both of them stopped when they spotted me.

I looked at Logan.

“Your mum wants us at her place.”

His brows furrowed.

“Why?”

Karla snorted inside my head.

As if she’d tell us.

I almost rolled my eyes.

“I don’t know, Logan.”

He glanced at Celine, then back at me.

“Celine, you should come along too.”

Her face brightened instantly.

“Wonderful.”

She giggled softly and tightened her hold on his arm.

I watched her for a second.

Has she already forgotten that she was supposed to be playing the role of his sister?

Or had she simply gotten too caught up in it?

Whatever.

I turned away.

The truth was, his mother hadn’t asked for all of us. But eventually, she would notice Logan was

missing, and somehow, the blame would find its way back to me.

It always did.

By the time we reached the car, I had already made up my mind.

I opened the back door.

“Let Celine sit in front.”

Both of them stared at me.

I didn’t give either of them a chance to argue. I climbed into the back seat and shifted against the

leather.

“I want to rest my head.”

Logan turned halfway around, confusion creasing his forehead.

“Ava-”

“The front seat is too small for me,” I cut in, settling against the door. “I want to rest.”

He opened his mouth again, but before he could say anything, Celine reached over and gently placed

her hand on his arm.

“Logan.”

Her voice came soft and sugary.

“If Ava wants to sit in the back, then let her. After all, she’s your Luna. You should let her do what she

wants.”

Logan’s jaw tightened.

I simply leaned my head against the window and watched the scenery smear into a blur beyond the glass. Whatever little game they were playing in the front seat, I had no interest in being part of it.

The ride passed in silence.

But the moment we pulled into the driveway, something inside me tightened.

The house looked exactly as it always did, yet the atmosphere felt different. Heavy. Still. Like the walls

themselves were holding their breath.

I stepped out of the car and followed Logan inside.

The moment I entered the living room, I knew.

Something was wrong.

My gaze swept across the room.

Isla stood near the center, her face drawn tight with anger. Naya was beside Rhea, who, despite being more of a family friend than a relative, had clearly been invited for whatever was about to happen.

Three other members of Logan’s family were scattered around the room.

Every conversation had stopped.

Every pair of eyes was on me.

They had been waiting.

I took one cautious step forward.

“Mum…”

“Shut up!”

The shout cracked through the room.

I stopped.

Isla’s furious gaze locked onto mine before she turned toward Naya and Rhea.

“Go and get me the whip.”

Their expressions brightened with something that made my stomach twist.

Logan immediately stepped forward.

“Mum, what are you doing?”

She didn’t even look at him.

Her attention remained fixed on me as she slowly raised her hand and pointed toward the floor.

“You.”

Her voice dropped, cold and commanding.

“Kneel down there.”
