AVA’S POINT OF VIEWO

“Ava, your family and ours have been friends for generations. Ever since you married into this family, we have treated you with nothing but kindness. How dare you betray my son and sleep with another
man!”
Isla’s voice thundered through the room.
The whip in her hand snapped against her palm as she paced in front of me, each sharp crack seeming to announce how determined she was to make me tremble.
I nearly laughed.
Nearly.
The ridiculousness of her performance was almost enough to break through my composure, but I pressed my lips together and kept my face blank. There was no point giving her the satisfaction of
seeing me lose control.
“Mom, that picture doesn’t prove anything,” Logan finally said.
Isla’s head whipped toward him.
“Even now, you’re still taking her side? I think you’ve spoiled her rotten!”
Logan immediately lowered his gaze.
I stared at him for a moment.
Pathetic.
Was this really the man I had once considered my mate?
How had I been so blind?
Then again, Logan had always been good at playing his part. Look at him now-standing there like the
devoted husband who would defend his innocent mate against his unreasonable mother.
It was almost convincing.
Almost.
“Logan is right,” Alaric said as he entered the room. “It’s just a picture of someone helping her to the elevator. Why are you making such a big deal out of it?”

His voice carried the calm warmth of a father trying to prevent another family argument. He walked over and took a seat, his gaze moving between Isla and me.
There was no approval in his eyes, but neither was there the accusation I had expected.
Alaric was Logan’s father,
His name alone might have sounded intimidating to outsiders, but inside this family, he was the one who usually tried to smooth things over. He wasn’t cruel like Isla, but he wasn’t strong enough to stop
her either.
Whenever she became unreasonable, he would simply try to talk her down.
And Isla?
She never listened.
“Yes, Mom,” Logan quickly added. “Ava was probably just meeting a client for dinner.”
“Shut up!”
Isla slammed the whip against her palm again.
“Mom, look. Both Logan and Dad think Ava is telling the truth. Maybe you misunderstood her. She’s
changed. She can handle projects on her own now.
“Projects?” Isla scoffed. “Who discusses business in a luxury hotel instead of the pack conference
room?”
Her eyes narrowed as she turned toward me.
“Ava, I suggest you tell me the truth. The whip in my hand is not something you want to test.”
She lifted her arm.
For a second, the room seemed to hold its breath.
I didn’t move.
I simply watched her hand rise, then lowered my gaze to the whip before meeting her eyes again.
“Mom, you’ve misunderstood.”
My voice remained calm.
“I really did meet Alpha Kion to discuss a project. The picture you saw is nothing more than proof that someone was taking me to where we’ll be discussing pack business.”

“What do you mean?”
Instead of answering Isla, I turned toward Alaric.

“Dad knows that Silvercrest Pack is still struggling compared with the larger packs-Stoneclaw, Moonbridge, even Celestial.”
Alaric’s expression shifted slightly. He nodded.
I continued.
“For years, some of those packs have refused to take us seriously because our main business is
centered around herbs and medicine for wolves. But I’ve been working on changing that.”
I let my gaze sweep across the room.
“I managed to speak with Luna Auri of Mistfen Pack and convinced her to recommend us. I also spoke
with Alpha Kion and managed to get him to reconsider working with Silvercrest.”
I paused.
“It’s still a work in progress, but the important thing is that they agreed to cooperate with us.”
“Really?”
Logan’s face brightened immediately, genuine excitement broke through his carefully controlled
expression.
Alaric was quieter, but I saw the change in his eyes too. His attention sharpened, and the faint lines
around his eyes softened.
Before either of them could say anything else, Celine spoke.
Her eyes were already red with anger.
“Who knows how you got those offers? Maybe you slept with someone to get them.”
The room went silent.
“Enough!”
Alaric’s roar made Celine flinch.
His expression hardened.
“Ava has devoted herself to Silvercrest Pack. We’ve spent years trying to get Luna Auri’s recommendation and couldn’t do it. Ava managed to open that door with one opportunity.

His voice carried through the room.
“And you’re accusing her of sleeping with someone simply because you don’t like her?”
Celine’s lips parted, but no words came out.
Logan looked between us.
Something flickered across his face-uncertainty, perhaps. His brows drew together as though he had
just realized there was something about the situation he hadn’t considered.
I smiled faintly.
“Dad really is the most understanding.”
I turned toward Celine and gave her a pleasant smile that didn’t reach my eyes.
“Of course, I believe Celine didn’t mean anything by it.”
Her face tightened.
“However…”
I tilted my head.
“If Mom believed what Celine said today, wouldn’t that mean she was punishing an innocent person?”
I let the silence stretch.
Then I added casually, “I seem to remember there’s a rule in the family law about spreading rumors and deliberately sowing discord.”
My eyes drifted toward Isla.
“Isn’t the punishment… a beating?”
The color drained slightly from Isla’s face.
She instinctively looked toward Alaric.
His expression had darkened.
“Ava is right,” he said coldly. “You caused all of this today. If your mother hadn’t been brought to the light, who knows how badly Ava would have been punished because of your accusations?”
Isla’s grip tightened around the whip.
Then, without warning, Isla turned and brought the whip down.

It struck Celine, and her cry tore through the room.
“Mom!”
Logan’s shout followed, sharp and instinctive. His eyes immediately found mine.
I met his stare.
One cold look.
That was all it took.

Whatever protest had risen to his lips died there. His jaw tightened, but he stayed rooted to the spot.
Celine looked at him, her eyes wide and desperate.
“Logan…”
Her voice trembled as another tear slipped down her cheek. She seemed to shrink beneath Isla’s
shadow, waiting for him to step forward.
He didn’t.
“Stop calling him,” Isla snapped. “Logan isn’t going to save you.”
Celine’s lips parted, but no words came. Her face crumpled as she looked away, her shoulders
trembling.
“Because of you, he almost ended up fighting with his own mate.”
Isla seized her again, fury flashing across her face as she raised the whip.
The next strike came harder.
Celine flinched, a broken sob escaping her as she stumbled beneath the force of it.
Isla’s anger had nowhere else to go now.
Not toward me.
So it fell on Celine instead.
She had never been Isla’s biological daughter. Perhaps that was why there was so little hesitation in
the way Isla treated her, as though Celine’s pain cost her nothing.
“Grandma, don’t hit Mommy!”
Naya burst into tears.

She rushed forward, her little face crumpling as she watched Celine cry.
“Aunty is so mean! It’s all your fault, Aunty Ava!”
She turned desperately toward Logan.
“Uncle, please help Mommy!”
Logan’s expression tightened.
He looked at the crying child, then at Celine, and finally at his mother.
A heavy sigh escaped him.
“Mom, please stop.”
He stepped forward and caught Isla’s wrist before she could raise the whip again.
“Celine isn’t a child anymore. You’re humiliating her.”
He pried the whip from her hand.
Celine immediately covered her face with both hands.
“No, Logan.”
Her voice cracked.
“Let Mom beat me. Let her beat me to death. It doesn’t matter anyway. No one would care if I died.”
“Who said that?”
The words slipped out of Logan before he could stop them.
“I care.”
Silence.
The room went utterly still.
Logan froze, his own words seeming to catch up with him a second too late. His gaze darted across
the room, taking in the faces turned toward him, the raised brows, the unmistakable surprise in
everyone’s eyes.
He cleared his throat.
“I mean…” He shifted awkwardly. “You’re my sister. Of course I care.”

The excuse was so painfully obvious that a laugh nearly escaped me.
Logan shot me a warning look.
I raised an eyebrow.

Alaric rose from his seat and clapped his hands once, forcing everyone’s attention toward him.
“Today is supposed to be a good day. Thanks to Ava, Silvercrest is finally moving in the right
direction.”
His gaze swept over the room.
“And it’s rare to have the whole family together like this. Let’s forget what happened and have dinner
somewhere.”
Everyone began gathering their things.
I reached for the shopping bags I had brought with me, picking up several at once.
Isla’s eyes immediately fell on them.
“Why did you buy so much?”
Her tone carried the unmistakable accusation of someone already preparing to call me wasteful.
Before I could answer, Alaric spoke.
“This must have been gifts from Logan. Everyone knows how much he spoils his Luna,” Alaric said.
I slowly turned toward Logan.
A smile curled at the corner of my lips as I held his gaze.
“Honey, do you think Dad is right?”
For the briefest moment, something flickered across Logan’s face.
His expression stiffened.
“Yes.”
The answer came too quickly.

He nodded again, as though trying to convince himself as much as everyone else.
“Yes, of course.”
A bead of sweat gathered near his temple. He quickly wiped it away, refusing to meet my eyes for
more than a second.
I said nothing.
There was no need to.
It was a lie.
A very convenient one.
Logan hadn’t bought me a single thing today. Not one gift. Not even something small enough to
pretend he had forgotten.
Even the clip I wanted, he had intended to give to Celine. Thank goodness someone else had given it to
me before he could.
Yet he had spent hundreds of thousands on Celine.
And now, standing there beneath his father’s assumption, he was perfectly willing to let everyone
believe otherwise.
I let the smile remain on my lips.
There was no reason to expose him.
Not yet.
We started toward the door, but before anyone could stop me, I spoke.
“I won’t be joining you for dinner.”
Everyone turned.
“I’m tired after spending the entire day handling business. I just want to go home and rest.
I didn’t wait for their approval.
I picked up my bags and walked out.
Behind me, Isla’s voice followed almost immediately, complaining about my manners and how disrespectful I was being.

Outside, I pulled out my phone and saw that my ride had already arrived.
With all the bags weighing down my arms, transforming and carrying everything myself wasn’t an
option.
I opened the car door, placed my things inside, and slid into the back seat.
“Where to?” the driver asked.
I stared out the window for a moment.
Then I gave him the address.
Not the Silvercrest Packhouse.
Not Logan’s home.
Not the place where I had spent years pretending I belonged.
This time, I was going somewhere else.
My new home.
