The moment those words left my mouth, Nyx rolled her eyes so hard I thought they’d disappear into the back of her head.
“I think that accident knocked something loose in your brain.”
A laugh almost escaped me.
If only she knew I wasn’t joking.
I would help Logan become one of the most feared and respected Alphas in the region, just as I’d always planned. I would stand beside him until he reached the very top…
Then, on the day he thought he had everything, I’d place the unbinding agreement in his hands and expose the truth about him and Celine for the entire pack to see.
We talked until evening before dark clouds swallowed the sky outside my window. Thunder rumbled in the distance, and the forecast warned of heavy rain, so I urged Nyx to leave before the storm arrived.
Logan never came to the healer’s den that day.
The excuse was that he was busy at the packhouse.
I almost laughed.
Busy comforting Celine, more like.
I picked up my phone, scrolling through our empty chat before tossing it onto the bed with a bitter
scoff.
He was probably with Celine right now, hiding behind the ridiculous excuse that they were “siblings.”
Liars.
A useless Alpha.
What kind of Alpha betrayed his own mate so shamelessly?
The thought left a bitter taste in my mouth.
Here I was, recovering from an accident they’d caused, while my mate spent his time playing house
with another woman.
How laughable.

Reaching into the bedside drawer, I pulled out the unbinding agreement and stared at it for a long moment, my fingers tightening around the edges.
Soon.
After several weeks in the healer’s den, I was finally discharged.
My father had sent Uncle Garrett and a driver to bring me home. Although my stayed neighboring pack instead of ours, his name carried enough weight that even powerful Alphas treated him with respect.
Thankfully, I hadn’t suffered any permanent injuries.
Just as I was leaving, one of the pack warriors approached carrying an enormous bouquet of crimson
roses.
A gift from Alpha Logan.
Soft murmurs rippled through the healer’s den, admiration shining in almost every pair of eyes. To them, it looked like a devoted Alpha showering his Luna with affection.
It made my stomach turn.
“I don’t want them.”
The warrior hesitated, his face paling.
“L-Luna… Alpha Logan ordered-”
“Then return them to your Alpha.”
My voice was calm, leaving no room for argument.
After a brief pause, he lowered his head and obediently carried the bouquet away.
The moment I stepped through the front door of my home, I stopped.
The house didn’t feel like mine anymore.
My gaze swept across the living room, and my chest tightened with every passing second. The soft silver drapes I’d personally chosen had been replaced with heavy cream curtains embroidered with strange floral patterns. The furniture was gone. The moon-shaped carvings etched into the walls-a design passed down through generations of Luna’s before me-had vanished as though they’d never existed. Even the scent lingering in the air wasn’t mine. It carried unfamiliar perfume instead of the comforting mixture of cedarwood and lavender that had always made this place feel like home.
Everything.

Everything had changed.

A sharp ache settled beneath my ribs. It felt as though someone had ripped away pieces of my life while I was gone, replacing them with something cold and unfamiliar. My wolf stirred uneasily, pacing inside me as if she no longer recognized the territory we both called home.
This wasn’t just a house,
This was my home.
Our home.
Or at least… it used to be.
“U-Um… Luna…” Clara’s timid voice came from behind me. “Miss Celine said Alpha Logan asked her to
replace-”
I didn’t wait to hear the rest.
My feet carried me upstairs before my mind could catch up, every step echoing against the staircase
until I reached the master bedroom.
The door was open.
And the sight waiting inside made my blood freeze.
Jewelry clattered against the polished floor.
Naya stood beside my vanity, her tiny hands frozen mid-motion as necklaces, bracelets, rings, and heirloom pendants spilled around her feet. My eyes drifted lower.
Her crossbody bag.
The leather bulged so much the zipper couldn’t close, and dangling from the opening was the
unmistakable pendant of my mother’s moonstone necklace.
For a heartbeat, I couldn’t breathe.
Then my voice came out low and dangerously calm.
“You’re stealing my jewelry.”
Naya’s face instantly drained of color.
“N-No… Luna… I…”
The pieces scattered across the floor glittered beneath the sunlight pouring through the windows.

Some had been gifts from Logan during happier days.
Some had been handcrafted by master artisans for Luna ceremonies.
And others…
My fingers curled into fists.
Others were all I had left of my mother.
Each one was priceless.
Not because of its value.
Because of the memories attached to it.
“I… I only wanted to play…” Naya whispered, tears already gathering in her eyes.
I looked from her trembling face back to the stuffed bag.
“Then why are they hidden in there?”

Without waiting for an answer, I walked over, grabbed the bag from her shoulder, and turned it upside down.
Jewelry poured onto the floor with a metallic chorus.
“What are you doing?!”
Logan’s voice thundered from behind me.
Before I could even turn around, Naya burst into loud, heart-wrenching sobs.
Celine rushed into the room and immediately swept the little girl into her arms as though I had been moments away from hurting her.
“My baby…”
I ignored them.
My attention landed on the diamond crown resting proudly atop Naya’s head.
My mother’s crown.
The one she’d worn during every Moon Festival before she died.
My hand reached toward it.

Then-
A rough shove slammed into my shoulder.
Before I could steady myself-
Snap!
Pain exploded across my cheek.
The crack of the slap echoed through the room.
Everything went silent.
The sting spread across my skin in burning waves, leaving my face numb.
I didn’t move.
Didn’t blink.
Didn’t even breathe.
The world around me blurred as heat rushed behind my eyes.
No.
No…
This couldn’t be real.
Slowly, I lifted my gaze.

Logan stood in front of me, his hand still half-raised, the realization of what he’d done slowly replacing
the fury on his face.
His expression shifted.
Shock.
Regret.
Disbelief.
In four years of being mates…
No matter how fiercely we’d argued…
No matter how angry he’d become…

Behind him, hidden from everyone else, Celine’s lips curled into the faintest smile before she quickly buried her face in Naya’s hair again.
The sight snapped something inside me.
I stepped forward.
Without hesitation-
Smack!
My palm collided with Logan’s face.
Hard.
His head jerked sideways.
Silence swallowed the room.
I poured every ounce of humiliation, betrayal, and heartbreak into that slap.
Logan slowly turned back toward me, stunned speechless.
Even Celine stared with wide eyes.
“My Luna…” she gasped. “What are you doing? How can you hit my brother?”
I looked at her without a trace of guilt.
“He hit me first.”
Then my gaze hardened into ice.
“It’s because of you… bitch.”
“Avery.”
Logan’s warning growled through clenched teeth.
Whatever guilt had flashed across his face moments ago vanished, replaced by anger.
“You still have the nerve to insult Celine? You bullied her daughter behind her back. Have you lost every shred of humanity?”

A bitter laugh escaped me.
“Humanity?”
I pointed at the jewelry scattered across the floor.
“Your precious niece stole my jewelry.”

“Impossible!” Celine exclaimed immediately. “Naya would never do something like that.”
Naya buried herself deeper into Celine’s embrace before peeking at Logan with watery eyes.
“No… Auntie wanted to throw them away. I don’t know anything…” she hiccupped between sobs. “She’s so scary…”
Watching the two of them perform so flawlessly almost made me laugh.
Instead, I smiled-a cold, humorless smile that held nothing but fury.
“I threw them?”
I looked directly at Logan.
“Take a good look.”
My voice trembled, not with fear, but with restrained heartbreak.
“These aren’t ordinary jewels.”
I knelt slowly, picking up the moonstone necklace with careful hands.
“They’re my mother’s relics.”
The room fell quiet.
Even Naya stopped crying.
Logan’s eyes lowered to the scattered pieces around us, recognition dawning across his face.
His expression darkened.
“You’ve been my mate for four years,” I whispered. “Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten how much these
mean to me.”
I looked toward Naya again.
“And she’s wearing my mother’s diamond crown.”

Lslowly rose to my feet, my fingers brushing against the scattered jewelry one last time before I let it
fall back into place.
The weight of every accusation, every lie, and every doubtful glance in the room pressed against my
chest.
But I refused to break.
“If any of you still insist I’m lying…”
My voice was steady, even though the pain behind my ribs was anything but.
I reached for my phone.
“…then we’ll let the pack investigators decide the truth.”
The moment my fingers touched the screen, a hand wrapped around my wrist.
Logan.
His grip was firm, stopping me before I could make the call.
I looked down at his hand around mine, then slowly lifted my gaze to his face.
For once, there was no anger in his eyes.
Only hesitation.
Only regret.
“Ava…”
His voice lowered, softer than it had been moments ago.
“I’m sorry.”
The words hung between us.
“I blamed you without knowing the truth.”
I stared at him silently.
The apology should have eased something inside me.
It should have meant something.
But the memory of his hand striking my face was still fresh, and the hurt from realizing he had believed the worst of me before even asking the truth cut far deeper than the pain on my cheek.

“Anaya is only a child,” he continued quietly. “Even if the pack investigates, nothing will happen to her.
She already knows she was wrong.”
He shot Naya a meaningful look.
Instantly, she sniffled before lowering her head.
“I’m sorry, Aunt…” she whispered pitifully. “The jewelry was just so shiny… I only wanted to look. I won’t
do it again. Please forgive me.”
Celime nodded eagerly.
“Exactly. She’s just a child, sister-in-law.”
I looked at both of them.
“So young…”
My voice turned dangerously calm.
“…yet already old enough to steal, lie, cry on command, and twist the truth.”
My gaze slowly shifted toward Celine.
The woman who had stood there pretending to be innocent while her daughter twisted the truth.
“I suppose children learn somewhere.”
The moment the words left my mouth, the faint confidence on Celine’s face disappeared.
Her smile stiffened.
The color drained from her features as she realized exactly what I meant.
“Enough.”
Logan’s voice cut through the tension.
He dragged a hand over his face, exhaustion flashing across his features as though he wanted this entire situation to disappear.
“Let’s end this here.”
He stepped closer, lowering his voice until it was meant only for me.

“Please, Ava. For me.”
For a moment, I simply stared at him.
The same man who had once been my protector.
The same man whose présence used to calm my wolf.
But now…
I took one slow step backward, putting distance between us.
His touch no longer felt like home.
It felt like a reminder of the betrayal I was still trying to understand.
“When you slapped me without asking a single question…”
My eyes locked with his.
My voice remained quiet, but every word carried the weight of my pain.

“…did you ever stop to think about giving me the same respect you were so eager to give everyone
else?”
Logan’s expression changed.
His lips parted slightly.
But no explanation came.
I held his gaze for another second before turning away from him and looking back at Celine.

“When you walked into my home and replaced every piece of furniture… every decoration… every part of my life…”
I glanced around the room.
“…did either of you ask what I wanted?”
Celine forced an awkward smile.
“My brother only said the house looked old after so many years. He asked me to redecorate. If you don’t like it, I’ll replace everything again.”
She spoke as though Logan’s approval erased every boundary she had crossed.
I didn’t spare her another glance.

Instead, I raised my voice.
“Clara.”
She hurried upstairs but stopped nervously outside the bedroom.
“Yes, Luna.”
I pointed downstairs.
“Throw every single thing Celine brought into this house outside.”
The command rang through the room with unmistakable authority.
No one argued.
No one moved.
Without looking at Logan or Celine again, I turned and walked away.
This was my home.
The home I had built with my mate.

Until the day I chose to leave, no one-not Celine, not Logan, not anyone-had the right to erase me
from it.
My wolf simmered beneath my skin, wounded yet proud, refusing to bow despite the cracks spreading through our bond.
Just as I reached the staircase, my phone vibrated in my hand.
The screen lit up.
Evander.
My father.
