Chapter 4
AVA’S POINT OF VIEWG
I didn’t answer the call.
Instead, I shoved my phone into my pocket, walked out of the house, and let the cold air hit my face. The moment I was far enough from the house, I shifted.
My wolf burst free, her paws pounding against the earth as I ran into the forest.
The trees became nothing more than a blur around me, the wind tearing through my fur as I pushed
myself faster. My chest burned with anger, but it wasn’t enough to drown out the ache buried deep
inside me.
Fury.
Humiliation.
Pain.
They clawed at me from within, mixing with the tears I refused to let fall.
My wolf felt it too. She snarled beneath my skin, restless and wounded, carrying every emotion I was
trying so desperately to suppress.
But I didn’t stop.
I couldn’t.
1 kept running.
Nyx’s pack wasn’t exactly close to ours, but distance had never meant much to a wolf. With my speed,
I knew I would reach her territory soon enough.
Behind me, my phone rang again.
And again.
Dad.
The moment his name flashed across the screen, a knot twisted low in my stomach. My wolf stirred
uneasily beneath my skin, her instincts prickling with quiet warning.
I shifted back into my human form, my body still tense from the emotions raging inside me. The cold air brushed against my skin as I took a moment to steady myself, forcing my wolf to quiet down.

Only then did I pull out my phone and answer the call.
“Hello, Dad…”
“Are you heading to Mooncrest pack?”

His voice was clipped, deep, carrying the familiar weight that always meant he wasn’t asking-he already knew.
I frowned. “Did you put a tracker on me?”
“How many times have I told you to stop associating with that Nyxelle girl?”
I bit the inside of my cheek.
Dad had never liked Nyx. She never bowed her head, never sugar-coated her words, and she certainly never treated him like the mighty wolf everyone else feared. She spoke the truth, even when it bruised
eggs.
“You need to come to the East View territory. Now.”
The line went dead before I could argue.
I stared at the dark screen for a second, irritation simmering beneath my skin.
With a sigh, I called Nyx and told her I’d have to visit another day. She cursed under her breath before telling me to stay alive, which earned a weak smile from me.
Minutes later, after shifting and racing through the forest, my paws pounded across familiar territory until the East View came into view. I shifted back before reaching the gates.
“The Luna is back.”
The guard’s announcement made my eyes roll before I could stop myself.
Luna.
The title felt heavier than chains these days.
Uncle Garrett opened the door for me with a knowing grin and gave me a subtle wink.
My stomach dropped.
Without a word, I followed his gaze toward the living room.
There they were.

Dad.
Logan.
Celine.
Anaya.
All seated comfortably together like one happy family.
My jaw clenched so hard it hurt.
So that was why Dad had known exactly where I was going.
Logan knew me too well.

Whenever my wolf became restless after one of our fights, I always sought out Nyx. She had always been the one person who could calm the storm inside me.
He’d used that against me.
I walked into the room, only to realize every seat had conveniently been taken.
Not even a place had been left for me.
The message couldn’t have been clearer.
“Ava.” Dad smiled as if nothing was wrong, patting the empty space beside Logan despite there being
nowhere for me to actually sit. “I know you and Logan argued.”
He rested a hand on Logan’s shoulder.
“He admitted he was wrong. He brought Celine and Anaya here to apologize. He even bought me a new ceremonial Crest outfit and a custom weapon as a peace offering.”
My fingers curled into my palms.
“He came to me because he genuinely wants to make things right. As a grown Alpha, setting aside his pride like this is sincere. Our families have known each other for years, and you two are fated mates.
Mates shouldn’t stay angry overnight.”
“Just forgive him.”
A bitter laugh almost escaped me.
I was the one he’d struck.

Yet somehow…
The apology had been delivered to my father instead of the woman he’d humiliated.
Silence stretched across the room.
Dad exchanged a glance with Logan before clearing his throat.
“There’s also something else.”
Every muscle in my body stiffened.

“Logan wants you to step down from your Luna duties. You rarely come to the packhouse anyway.”
My wolf snapped awake inside me.
“And who,” I asked quietly, “is replacing me?”
Logan finally spoke.
“Celine has experience in business. She’ll help strengthen relationships with neighboring packs and
assist with pack affairs.”
I looked directly at him.
“I’m studying Pack Marketing and Diplomacy. I’m literally training for that position.”
Dad waved a dismissive hand.
“Ava, you don’t have the education everyone else has.”
Sadness and fury crashed together inside me until even my wolf let out a low, threatening growl.
“I wanted you to graduate from Silvercrest Acaderny,” Dad continued. “Instead, you ran off overseas and came back without the diploma I expected. The only reason you’ve been helping Logan all these
years is because you’re his mate, not because you earned that position.”
Each word landed like another stone on my chest.
“From now on, Celine will oversee the Luna’s responsibilities. You’ll assist her instead. Think of it as an opportunity to learn.”
“I’ve already agreed to the arrangement.”
The decision had been made before I ever walked through the door.
Logan immediately stood.

Thank you, Dad. I knew you’d understand.”
Celine rose gracefully beside him.
“Uncle Evander is too kind,”
She gently nudged Anaya forward.
The little girl smiled sweetly.
“I already like you, Uncle.”
Dad’s entire face softened.
He scooped her into his arms, laughing as though she’d always belonged there.

“What a respectful little girl. Logan, Ava…” He beamed. “The two of you should work harder and give me a grandson soon.”
“Of course,” Logan answered with a smile.
His eyes slowly shifted toward me.
And then he froze.
For the first time since the day we became mates, he didn’t find the emotions he was expecting waiting in my eyes.
There was no pain.
No anger begging to be acknowledged.
No silent plea for him to choose me.
No hope that the man I loved would finally see what he had done.
Only disgust.
The realization seemed to hit him harder than any words I could have spoken.
Something flickered across his face.
Panic.
Small.
Brief.

But I saw it.

I didn’t look away.
I wanted him to understand that something between us had changed. That the woman who once looked at him like he was her entire world was no longer standing in front of him.
My gaze eventually moved past him, landing on my father.
He was laughing, surrounded by the perfect little family he had always wanted to see.
His chosen son-in-law.
His precious guests.
Their child.
My chest felt strangely hollow.
He was my father.
Yet somehow…
He had never once stood on my side.
A cruel thought crossed my mind.
I wondered what expression would be on his face when he finally discovered that the little girl sitting
on his lap wasn’t just Asher’s daughter…
She was the child Logan had with another woman.
“Ava…”
Logan approached carefully once we stepped outside.
“You heard what your Dad said. Don’t stay angry with me.”
I sidestepped him.
“So first you slap me… then strip me of my Luna duites…..and somehow I’m not allowed to be angry?”
I didn’t wait for an answer.
I walked away.
Footsteps rushed after me.

“Ava! Wait!
His fingers wrapped around my wrist.
I looked down at his hand before lifting my eyes to his face.
He knew he’d crossed the line.
Not only had he struck me in front of everyone.
He had quietly replaced me as Luna.
The irony almost made me laugh.

For years, Logan barely allowed me into the packhouse. He insisted I work from home, only asking me
to come in whenever he needed my advice or wanted my help smoothing relationships with neighboring packs.
I had spent years helping him build the reputation he now proudly wore.
And now…
Celine would receive the credit.
“Ava…”
His voice softened.
“What compensation do you want? I’ll give you anything if you’ll forgive me.”
Those eyes.
So warm.
So sincere.
I’d drowned in them countless times before.
Not anymore.
“Fine.”
Relief flooded his face so quickly it was almost laughable.
“What do you want? Clothes? Jewelry? Bags? Just say the word.”
“I want money.”

He blinked.
For four years…
I’d never once asked him for any.
“We’re mates,” he said with an awkward chuckle. “What’s mine is yours.”
I smiled.
Coldly.
“Then prove it.”

“I want you to take a portion from the emergency treasury you have been saving for the pack…”
“…and transfer it to me. Personally.”
His smile disappeared.
“Ava…”
“What?”
I tilted my head.
“Is one slap and my Luna position not worth that much?”
He stared at me as though I’d become a stranger.
The feeling was mutual.
“I’ll… I’ll start working on it.”
I checked the time on my phone.
“You have one hour.”
I lifted my gaze back to him.
“If the money isn’t in my account by then…”
I didn’t finish the sentence.
I didn’t need to.
Because whenever the pack needed my father’s support or influence, Logan always came to me first. I was the bridge between them, the one who convinced Dad to help, who mended damaged alliances

and smoothed over political cracks.
Not anymore.
Half an hour later…
The transfer notification lit up my phone.
I stared at the amount before a slow smile curled across my lips.

That payment had probably drained the emergency treasury Logan and his family had spent years
protecting.
Good.
Watching him bleed something he valued felt oddly satisfying.
This was exactly how things should be before breaking a mate bond.
