My paws pounded against the earth as I raced toward Celestial Pack, the wind rushing past me. No
matter how fast I ran, though, I couldn’t outrun the thoughts chasing me.
My life had taken a complete turn without my permission, and I still hadn’t decided whether I was angry about it or simply exhausted from trying to understand it.
But it didn’t matter.
I didn’t want to understand any of it. I had a plan, and that was all I needed to focus on.
Because when this was over, Logan was not going to like what I had in store for him.
The moment I crossed into Celestial territory, I slowed to a steady walk. Security warriors stood at the entrance, their gazes immediately locking onto me. One of them stepped forward, scanning me from
head to toe before demanding to know who I was and why I was there.
“I’m here to see Alpha Kion,” I explained.
They exchanged a brief glance before stepping aside and allowing me through.
I wasted no time.
I hurried toward the pack house, my mind already running through everything I needed to say. By the time I reached the entrance, a female guard stepped in front of me, blocking my path.
“Who are you?”
“I’m Luna Ava of Silvercrest Pack. I’m here to see Alpha Kion.
Her eyes narrowed as she looked me over. Then her gaze dropped to my sides, as though expecting to find an escort.
There was none.
No warrior.
No Beta.
No Alpha standing beside me.
Just me.
Her expression shifted slightly, but she said nothing. “Wait here.”

She disappeared inside, leaving me standing at the entrance.
I planted my paws firmly beneath me, lifted my head, and waited, my gaze fixed steadily ahead.
A few moments later, she returned and stepped aside.”
“You can go in.”
I nodded and walked inside, only to find Alpha Kion’s Beta waiting for me.
His eyes settled on me, and for the first time, a hint of recognition appeared in his expression.
“Luna Ava,” he greeted.
I offered him a small smile. “Beta Draven.”
He nodded before turning and walking deeper into the pack house. I followed closely behind.
We’passed through several corridors before I finally spotted Alpha Kion.
He was standing with a few wolves, speaking in low voices. The moment his eyes landed on me, his
expression hardened.
He said something to the wolves around him, and they immediately dispersed.
Then he walked toward me.
“Luna Ava.”
“Alpha Kion.”
His jaw tightened at the sound of my voice.
“What brings you here?” he asked.
His Beta remained a few steps behind him, silent and unreadable.
I drew in a breath.
“The herbs-”
“What about the herbs?”
His voice sharpened, cutting me off.
I swallowed.
Okay. This was going to be harder than I thought.

Obviously, Karla remarked inside tmy head.
I ignored her.
“I understand the mix-up has affected your pack-”

“Not only has it affected my pack,” Kion interrupted, his eyes flashing with anger, “it has affected our
warriors.”
The weight behind his words made me pause.
“We can replace the herbs,” I offered.
“I don’t want anything from your pack, Luna Ava.”
His tone left no room for negotiation.
“And I certainly don’t want anything from your Alpha.”
I closed my eyes briefly, then forced myself to remain calm.
“Then tell me what you want.”
His brows lifted slightly.
“My offer?”
“Yes.” I met his gaze. “Tell me what would make this right. Let us compensate your pack for the herbs we consumed.”
A humorless chuckle escaped him.
“And how exactly do you intend to compensate us for the pain our injured warriors are suffering?”
I opened my mouth, but he continued before I could answer.
“You can’t.”
His gaze hardened.
“There is nothing you can offer that would make up for what happened.”
He took a breath before adding, “I have already requested a new batch of herbs from Mistfen Pack. So there is nothing more you can do.”
I stared at him.
“So… you’re letting us go?”

For a moment, silence filled the room.
Then Kion laughed, though there was nothing amusing about it.
“No.”
My stomach dropped.
“The only thing that will satisfy me now is war.”
My eyes widened.
“Alpha Kion-”
“Enough, Luna Ava.”
He turned away from me, ending the conversation before it had even begun.
Then, without looking back, he added, “If I were you, I’d prepare yourself.”
He paused at the doorway.
“Or better yet, run.”
Then he walked away.
I stood frozen for a moment, listening to his footsteps fade down the corridor.
My heart hammered against my ribs.
Fuck.
What has Celine done?

I closed my eyes and slowly exhaled, trying to steady myself. When I opened them again, Beta Draven was still standing there.
“Talk to your Alpha,” I said.
He studied me for a moment.
“He has already made up his mind,” he replied calmly. “I don’t think there’s anything anyone can do to change it.”
I frowned.
“Not even a woman?”

His expression didn’t change.
“No. He doesn’t have a mate.”

Before I could say anything else, he turned and walked away.
I watched him disappear around the corner, my thoughts racing.
Then something clicked.
Lucian.
He had been with Kion when they came to Silvercrest. If they were close enough to travel together,
maybe he could reach him in a way I couldn’t.
I immediately pulled out my phone and called him, my fingers moving faster than my thoughts. He
answered within seconds, and the moment the call connected, I spoke.
“Lucian.”
Silence greeted me from the other end.
I tightened my grip on the phone. “Please, can you do me a favor?”
Still nothing.
Karla’s voice suddenly drifted through my mind, almost as if she were standing right beside me.
Mr. Mysterious, can you be hasty about something for once?
I pushed the thought aside before it could distract me.
“What’s that?” Lucian finally asked, his voice calm and annoyingly unreadable.
“Can you talk to Alpha Kion and convince him not to start a war with Silvercrest?”
“Convince him?”
I sighed, rubbing my forehead with my free hand. “No. I mean… talk to him on our behalf. Please.”
The word left my mouth before I could stop it.
Please.
I hated how desperate I sounded, but at this point, I couldn’t bring myself to care. Too much was at stake, and whether I liked it or not, I was the one standing in the middle of a mess I hadn’t even
created.

If anything, Celine and Logan should have been here dealing with it themselves.

Or better yet, I thought bitterly, they can drag their lazy asses here and fix their own damn problem.
The longer I stood there thinking about it, the more my irritation grew
Logan really was the worst Alpha ever
He cared more about his precious status than the people he was supposed to protect. How could someone be so obsessed with appearing powerful while completely ignoring the consequences his
decisions could have on everyone else?
I was so consumed by my anger that I didn’t even notice the silence on the other end had lasted too
long.
“Lucian?”
Nothing.
I pulled the phone away from my ear and stared at the screen.
The call had ended.
I blinked at it for a moment before slowly lowering my hand.
“Gosh…”
I let out a frustrated breath, staring at the blank screen as if Lucian might somehow call back if I
glared at it long enough.
Of course he wouldn’t.
Typical Lucian.
What was I supposed to do now?
I couldn’t let my father’s pack be dragged into a war because of Celine’s mistake.
Not because he was my father.
Not because I owed anyone anything.
It was simply the right thing to do.
I was still trying to figure out my next move when a familiar voice came from behind me.
“Luna Ava.”

Lturned.
Alpha Kion stood several feet away, his expression unreadable.
He studied me for a moment before speaking.
“State your offer. I’ll decide whether it’s worth my time.”
