Chapter 37

LOGAN’S POINT OF VIEW

For three days, I did everything I could to avoid Ava.

Whenever I heard her name in the packhouse, I found an excuse to leave the room. Whenever I caught sight of her shadow down a corridor, I turned around before she could see me. I was still too angry to

face her.

She had stood before me and dad with that confidence of hers, promising that the new herb launch would make up for everything we had lost. I had believed her. Dad had believed her too.

And then the herbs had been distributed to the other packs.

Within hours, the pack’s social pages were flooded with complaints. Wolves were calling the herbs useless. Others mocked our research team and questioned how an Alpha could approve something so poorly tested. Every notification felt like another slap to my pride.

I stared at the screen on my desk, scrolling through comment after comment until my jaw tightened.

The pack has lost its reputation.

How did they even approve this?

Their Alpha clearly has no idea what he’s doing.

I locked my phone and tossed it aside.

How was I supposed to rise to the top when every other pack saw mine as a failure? How could make my pack the strongest, most feared name in the territory if we could not even launch a successful herb?

Fenrir shifted restlessly inside me.

For once, even he had nothing comforting to say.

“Ava really is useless,” I muttered, sinking deeper into my chair.

Fenrir let out a low sigh.

He had never approved of Celine either. From the moment she entered my life, he had resisted her presence, but I had ignored him. Celine was different from Ava. At least, that was what I had told myself.

Celine had given me a child.

She had never stood before me making promises she could not keep.

Ava, on the other hand, had strutted into the project as though she had the answers to everything, only to crumble the moment she was given the opportunity to prove herself.

“It was a mistake putting Ava in charge of the launch.”

I dragged both hands over my face and leaned back, staring at the ceiling.

When Dad had trusted Ava with the project, a small part of me had expected something to go wrong. Still, I had decided to trust the process.

Now I was paying for it.

The office door opened.

“Alpha.”

Axel stepped inside.

I looked up immediately. His expression was serious enough to make my stomach tighten.

“What is it?”

I pushed myself to my feet, already bracing for another disaster.

“The new herbs just became a hit.”

I blinked.

For a second, I thought I had heard him wrong.

Fenrir gave an irritated growl, clearly convinced Axel was only trying to make me feel better.

“What?”

Axel sighed.

“The new herbs. Three more packs have requested shipments.”

I stared at him.

“What?”

His brows drew together.

“I said-”

“I heard you.”

I dropped onto the edge of my desk, trying to make sense of what I had just heard. A few minutes ago, I had been staring at comments calling me a disgrace. Now Axel was telling me other packs wanted more of the same herbs that had supposedly ruined my reputation.

“How?”

“I don’t know, Alpha.” He pulled out his phone and glanced at the screen. “But it looks like those first reviews weren’t genuine. The herbs have been tested by wolves from several other packs, and they’ve confirmed that they actually work as a pain reliever.”

My head snapped up.

“They work?”

Axel nodded.

A laugh escaped me before I could stop it.

The pressure that had been sitting on my chest for three days suddenly disappeared. I stood so quickly that the chair behind me rolled backward.

“Ava.”

The name left my lips with a smile.

Of course.

I knew she could do it. I knew the Moon Goddess wouldn’t let me stay buried beneath one failure,

“Where is Ava?”

Axel’s expression changed.

“I don’t know.”

My smile faltered.

“She hasn’t been around since the herb scandal.”

I frowned.

“What do you mean she hasn’t been here?”

“I mean exactly that. I haven’t seen her around the packhouse.”

Axel studied me toř a moment before his shoulders relaxed.

“You should go home and find her. I’ll take over here.”

I nodded, still too distracted by the good news to question anything.

Axel shifted into his wolf form, pausing at the doorway.

“I’ll be in the pack fields checking on the warriors.”

“Okay.”

He disappeared down the corridor.

I remained where I was, staring after him.

But Ava had been staying in one of the rooms at the packhouse. Sometimes, guilt gnawed at me for letting her stay there, while other times, I convinced myself it was for the best.

Axel had no idea that Ava wasn’t actually at home, and I had no intention of telling him.

He knew about Celine. He had known from the beginning.

When Axel first discovered that I had been seeing Celine, he had made his disapproval obvious. But I

had reminded him that he was my Beta, not my judge. His duty was to stand beside me, not decide

whether my choices were right or wrong.

After that conversation, he had never exposed me or said a word to anyone.

He also never sided with Ava.

And, if I was being honest, I preferred it that way.

I was too excited to sit around thinking about it anyway. I wanted to see Celine. I wanted to tell her the

news myself.

But the moment I stepped into her territory, I heard voices.

Celine’s voice.

“Impossible. There must be some mistake. How could this be?”

I slowed.

There was something strange in her tone.

I followed the sound and found Celine standing with Tala. Celine was staring at Tala’s phone, her face

noticeably paler than usual.

“I don’t think Ava has any real ability,” Celine snapped. “She probably just spends money hiring

bloggers to make those promotional posts.”

Tala’s fingers tightened around the phone.

“It seems… it’s not a paid review or fake posts.”

Celine’s eyes narrowed.

“What?”

Tala turned the screen toward her.

Celine stared at it.

Her expression changed almost instantly.

The confidence drained from her face, replaced by something I couldn’t quite understand. She stared

at the screen for several seconds before suddenly knocking the phone out of Tala’s hand.

The device hit the floor.

“Celine!”

Tala bent down to retrieve it, anger flashing across her face. But when she looked back at Celine,

whatever she had been about to say died on her lips.

Celine’s face was frighteningly cold.

Tala picked up the phone and stormed away without another word.

I watched her leave, then looked at Celine.

She was standing with her arms folded tightly across her chest, her gaze fixed somewhere beyond me.

“Baby.” I called softly.

She turned at the sound of my voice, and for a moment, something flickered across her face before

she quickly replaced it with a smile. It looked forced, the corners of her lips lifting without reaching her

eyes as she walked toward me.

“I saw that the new herbs are going viral,”

She glanced around before stepping closer and giving me a quick peck.

“I’m so happy for you.”

”

I smiled and wrapped an arm around her.

“Are you okay?”

“Of course.”

Her answer came too quickly.

I studied her face, but she only smiled again.

Then her expression shifted.

“But, Logan…”

“What?”

Her brows pulled together.

“How did Ava manage to improve the essence at the cellular level in only one week?”

I frowned.

Celine’s eyes stayed fixed on mine.

“That’s amazing. Don’t you think it’s suspicious?”

I shrugged.

“I don’t know. I haven’t even seen her since everything happened. But I’m going to find her and thank her.”

The smile on Celine’s lips tightened.

Then it disappeared completely.

Her hands slowly curled into fists.

I noticed.

I simply chose not to ask.

I didn’t have the patience for another argument, not today. For the first time in days, everything was finally falling into place.

My pack was recovering.

Other packs were asking for our herbs:

My reputation was climbing again.

I had something to celebrate.

“Come on,” I said, taking her hand. “Let me take you and Naya out. We should celebrate.”

I expected her face to brighten.

Instead, her frown deepened.

Still, I pulled her gently along with me.

Nothing was going to ruin this moment.

For three days, I had felt like everything was slipping through my fingers.

Now, for the first time in what felt like forever, the future was opening up in front of me.

And I couldn’t hide the smile spreading across my face.

Finally, things were going my way.

So Ava is useless when things don’t go well, and wonderful when they do. Does he realize how shallow he is?
