Chapter 40
LOGAN’S POINT OF VIEW
I had already arrived at Hearthstone Kindergarten by the time I saw the teacher.
The moment her eyes landed on me, surprise flickered across her face.
Apparently, I wasn’t what she had expected when she’d called Naya’s uncle.
But Naya didn’t seem to care.

One second, she had been crying so hard that her little shoulders were trembling. The next, her entire face lit up.
“Uncle!”
She ran straight at me.
I barely had time to bend before she threw herself into my arms, wrapping her arms around my neck as if she hadn’t seen me in years. A laugh escaped her as I lifted her, and just like that, the tears on her
cheeks no longer mattered.
“Anaya,” I said, brushing one of them away with my thumb. “How’s your stomach? Does it still hurt?”
She shook her head immediately.
“It doesn’t hurt anymore.”
“Really?”
She nodded, then pressed her cheek against mine.
“As soon as you came, I didn’t feel pain anywhere.”
I stiffened slightly.
It wasn’t that I disliked her affection. Far from it.
But the teacher was still standing there, and there were other staffs nearby. I could already feel a few
curious glances drifting in our direction.
The last thing I needed was for people to start putting things together.
Fenrir stirred faintly in the back of my mind, his presence brushing against mine before retreating
again.

Naya’s stomachache had already passed, but since I was there, I decided to take her home early.
I had barely made it to the kindergarten gate when I saw Celine waiting for us.
Guilt settled heavily in my chest.
I had hung up on her twice already.
“Celine…”
She looked at me for a long moment.
Then she asked, “What were you doing before you came here?”
My mouth opened, but nothing came out.
Her eyes narrowed slightly, and the question that followed seemed to settle heavily between us.
“Were you with Ava?”
I could have lied. I should have lied.
Instead, I stood there, frozen beneath her searching gaze, my silence stretching far longer than it
should have.
And apparently, silence was answer enough.
Something in Celine’s face shifted.
The warmth disappeared first, followed by the faint hope in her eyes. Even Naya noticed. Her little smile slowly faded as she looked between us.
Then she tugged gently at my shirt.
“Uncle…”
I looked down.
“Aunt isn’t here right now.” Her voice softened. “Can I call
you
Dad?”
Something tightened in my chest.
She was looking at me with such hope that the word no refused to leave my mouth.
But we were still standing in front of the kindergarten.
I glanced around before lowering my voice.

“Let’s go back to the car.
Naya nodded immediately.

I carried her toward the car, and once we were inside, I turned to her with a small smile.
“Now you can call me Dad.”
Her eyes lit up.
“Really?”
“Really.”
She looked so happy that I couldn’t help smiling back.
Then she turned toward Celine.
Something in her expression shifted.
“Dad…”
I looked back at her. “What is it, sweetheart?”
“Can you comfort Mom?”
My smile faltered.
Naya hesitated, her little fingers curling around each other as her voice grew quieter.
“She’s cried a lot these past few days.”
The words landed harder than they should have.
My eyes moved to Celine.
Her cheeks were flushed, and she was doing everything she could to hold herself together, but I could
already see the tears gathering in her eyes.
I stepped closer.
“Celine…”
She immediately looked away.
A sigh slipped from me as I ran a hand through my hair. There was nothing I could say that would undo what I had done, but standing there and pretending nothing was wrong felt even worse.

“I’m sorry.”
That got her attention.

“I know I’ve neglected you these past few days.” I paused, choosing my words carefully. “But Ava has
made important contributions to the pack. I’m only rewarding someone who has performed well.
That’s all this is.”
Celine stared at me.
For a moment, I thought she might accept it.
Instead, her expression hardened.
“Do you even know how Ava managed to do all of that?”
“Celine-”
“Do you really think she’s that capable?” she pressed. “Do you really think she’s the only reason things have started improving?”
I frowned.
She took a step closer.
“In my opinion, this entire mess started because of Ava. If she hadn’t caused so much chaos in the first place, we wouldn’t have been desperately searching for some miracle launch just to get ourselves
back on our feet.”
I opened my mouth to argue.
Then I stopped.
Because she wasn’t entirely wrong.
The more I thought about it, the more certain things began to fall into place.
The herb launch.
The problems that followed.
The time and resources we had spent trying to fix everything.
I looked at Celine.
“You’re right.”

Her eyes widened slightly.
A small flicker of hope appeared on her face.
I continued before she could say anything.

“If Ava hadn’t caused so many problems, we wouldn’t have had those issues with the herb launch in
the first place.”
For a moment, Celine simply stared at me.
Then the tension around her mouth softened, and a small smile slowly found its way onto her face.
I turned to Naya. “Are you hungry?”
She nodded eagerly.
“How about Mommy and Daddy take you out to eat?”
Celine glanced at me at once, surprise flickering across her face at the word Daddy. I only smiled.
“Yayy!” Naya clapped excitedly.
But just as quickly, her hands fell back to her sides. Her little face grew thoughtful.
“But…” Her voice softened. “I’m afraid Dad might be too busy.”
The words hit me harder than I expected.
She was only a child, yet she said it like she had already learned not to expect too much from me.
My chest tightened.
I reached over and gently brushed my thumb against her cheek. “Dad isn’t busy tonight.”
Her eyes lifted to mine.
“With your mom helping me, things have been going better than I expected.”
When I glanced at Celine, I found her smiling.
A real smile this time.
And somehow, seeing it loosened something in my chest I hadn’t realized I’d been holding onto.
For dinner, I took Celine and Naya to the same restaurant where I had taken Ava.

It was the closest place, I told myself.
That was all.

The place had recently been renovated, and I wanted thern to see it. Every section had been given a new look, from the boutique displays and glittering jewelry section to the restaurant, where warm lighting and private booth’s created a cozy space away from the rest of the dining area.
Naya was happily occupied with her food while Celine and I talked.
Or rather, Celine talked, and I listened.
She explained her ideas for helping the pack in greater detail, and as she spoke, I found myself paying closer attention than had expected.
She had thought everything through.
The resources we already had.
The areas where we were losing money.
The ways we could attract new business without spending more than we could afford.
Each time I thought I had found a weakness in her plan, she already had an answer.
By the time she finished, I was leaning back in my chair, staring at her.
“Celine…”
She looked up.
“You’re so brilliant.”
A faint blush crept into her cheeks.
“Having you by my side might be the greatest blessing of

my life.”
”
Across from us, Naya was happily eating her ice cream, completely aware of the way her mother was
trying to hide her smile.
I watched Celine for a moment longer.
Maybe I had been wrong to underestimate her.
Her plan wasn’t just promising.

And the more I considered it, the more I realized it might even get us where we wanted to be faster
than Ava’s ideas ever could.
Celine could help me.
She wanted to help me.
And perhaps I should have trusted her sooner.
I reached across the table and took her hand.
She looked at me in surprise.
“Your birthday is next month, right?”
Her brows drew together.
“Yes…”
A slow smile spread across my face.
“How about I give you your birthday present early?”/
Her eyes widened.
“Right now?”
