Chapter 41
LOGAN’S POINT OF VIEW
The moment the words left my mouth, Celine’s entire face lit up.

Her smile was so bright and immediate that I found myself smiling back despite myself. She pressed
a finger thoughtfully against her chin, humming as though she were considering the most difficult
question in the world.
“Hmm…”
For a few seconds, she stared off into the distance with exaggerated concentration. Then her eyes suddenly widened.
“Oh!” She turned back to me, beaming. “I want a new necklace.
My smile vanished.
Shit.
Fenrir’s voice slipped into my mind at the exact same moment the realization hit me.
I went still.
The necklace.
I had been buying one for Ava that afternoon before the kindergarten teacher called me away. By the
time I dealt with everything, the entire thing had slipped my mind.
Shit. How had I forgotten?
There wasn’t much I could do about it now, though. I had already told Ava I would reimburse her for
the necklace since she had ended up paying for it herself.
Quickly, I pulled out my phone and checked for a message from her.
Nothing.
I frowned at the empty screen.
Ava still hadn’t texted me about the money.
Had she forgotten?
Without wasting another second, I shoved my phone back into my pocket.

It would be better if she had.
After all, that ridiculous necklace had cost far too much, and I certainly wasn’t about to complain if I could keep my money instead of throwing it away on a piece of jewelry.
“Logan…”
Celine’s sweet voice pulled me from my thoughts.
I looked up, arranging a smile on my face. “Yes?”
“There’s this necklace I saw in this store.”
She held her phone toward me, but I barely had a chance to look at the picture before she pulled it back, practically glowing at the screen.
“How about we go to the jewelry section?” she asked sweetly.
I nodded.
The three of us rose from our seats, and Naya immediately moved closer to me, slipping her small
hand into mine as we headed toward the jewelry section.
The moment we arrived, Celine spotted one of the assistants.
She stepped forward and held out her phone.
“Do you have these two in stock?” She pointed at the screen. “And this one too?”
The assistant leaned closer to examine the pictures.
Then she looked up at me.
Something flickered across her face.
Confusion.
I knew exactly what she was thinking..
There was no point in hiding my identity. She was probably wondering why I had brought my Luna and my sister shopping for necklaces.
After a brief pause, she offered us a polite smile.
“I’m sorry,” she said. “All the jewelry in our store is limited to one of each design. The two pieces you’re interested in are among our most popular styles. One is this year’s main design, while the other was only launched this month.” Her smile turned apologetic. “Unfortunately, they were both sold this

afternoon.”
Celine’s expression immediately darkened.

She slowly turned to look at mè, clearly assuming the assistant was hiding the necklaces somewhere
because she didn’t want to bring them out.
“Well, your Alpha-”
“Oh!”
The assistant suddenly brightened, cutting her off.
“There’s Luna Ava,” she said, pointing past us. “She’s the one who purchased both necklaces this
afternoon.”
For a second, everything around me seemed to go quiet.
Then Celine and I turned in the direction she was pointing.
And there she was.
Ava.
What the hell was she doing here now?
Fenrir chuckled inside my head.
Mockingly.
I ignored him, as usual, fighting the urge to snort at how irritating he had become.
As though she could feel our eyes on her, Ava suddenly turned
Her gaze met mine.
And then something almost resembling an amused smirk curled at the corner of her lips.
She smiled.
Then she began walking toward us.
Confidently.
Too confidently for the Ava I knew.
My eyes dropped to her hands.

Two beautifully packaged jewelry boxes.
My expression hardened.
“You bought both necklaces?”
The words left my mouth/before I could stop them.

Ava stopped in front of us, and I stared at those boxes as though they had personally offended me.
How could she-
“Logan!” Celine’s voice rang out so loudly that a few people nearby turned to look.
She whirled toward me, her eyes blazing as she pointed accusingly in my direction. “You’re spoiling your mate way too much! Buying her one necklace wasn’t enough, so you bought her two?”
Her face twisted with outrage.
“If Mum finds out about this, she’ll be heartbroken!” she continued, not caring who heard her. “She’ll
think the son she raised with so much care has turned into a man who throws money around like it
grows on trees!”
Except I barely heard her.
My mind was too busy trying to calculate exactly how much money I would have left after reimbursing
Ava.
Then Ava let out a soft, humorless laugh.
“Stop exaggerating, Celine,” she said. “I bought two necklaces. The way you’re talking, you’d think I forced Logan to commit some terrible crime.”
My eyes snapped to her.
“Avery,”
Her gaze shifted toward me.
My blood began to heat.
“Even if you bring revenue into the pack, you can’t take that for granted,” I said, my voice sharper than I intended. “Since when did I agree to you buying two necklaces?”
Because I certainly couldn’t afford to reimburse her for both.
How much money would I even have left afterward?

Ava’s really something.
Fenrir chuckled again, sounding far too entertained by my suffering.
I ignored him.
Then his tone changed.
But seriously… what are we going to do?
I didn’t answer.
Before I could even gather my thoughts, Celine stepped forward, glaring at Ava.
“What?” she snapped. “So you bought two necklaces without my brother’s permission?”
Her eyes narrowed.
“You’ve really gone to great lengths to make my brother spend money on you.”
“I only ever get one toy at a time,” Anaya said softly.

Her little voice was filled with such innocent disappointment that she shook her head as though she
couldn’t believe what she had just witnessed.
“I never thought my aunt would do something this dumb. I’m so ashamed.”
Ava’s eyes slowly moved toward her.
The look she gave her was cold enough to make Anaya immediately retreat behind me, clutching the
back of my shirt.
I wrapped a hand around Anaya protectively, my jaw tightening as I stared at Ava.
Honestly, I was just as furious.
Two necklaces.
Of all the unnecessary things to spend money on, she had chosen two necklaces.
Then, just as I was about to say something else, Ava spoke.
“Don’t worry,” she said calmly. “You don’t need to reimburse me for the necklaces.”
I blinked.
She continued as though she hadn’t just dropped the most unexpected words I’d heard all day.

“Someone gave them to me as a gift”
My head snapped toward her.
“What?”
The word came out before I could stop it.
What the hell?
Who would give Ava a gift worth three million?
A necklace, for that matter?
And not just one.
Two.

I searched her face for any sign that she was lying, but Ava stood there with an irritating calmness, completely composed. There was no nervousness in her eyes. No hesitation.
She was telling the truth.
I wanted to ask who had given them to her, but Celine’s sharp tongue beat me to it.
“Ava is already mated,” she said, her voice carrying a hint of envy. “How come she still has such good
luck with men?”
Something cold slid down my spine.
I went still.
I didn’t need to ask Ava anything anymore.
Of course, it had been a man.
Who else would casually give her something worth that much?
I told myself it didn’t matter whether he was an old friend or someone she had just met. It shouldn’t
have mattered.
But somehow, it did.
What bothered me wasn’t even who had bought the necklaces.
It was the fact that she had accepted them.
And from the way she stood there, holding those two little boxes with that calm expression on her

face, she didn’t seem the least bit ashamed of it.
Ava was beautiful.
That was simply a fact.

She had always had a naturally pretty face, the kind that didn’t need much effort to stand out. With just a little makeup, she became even more striking. And walking through a place like this-filled with wealthy people and expensive things-it wasn’t impossible that she would catch someone’s attention.
Still…
My eyes drifted back to the jewelry boxes in her hands.
I had never expected Ava to be the type of woman who would entertain another man’s attention for
something as simple as a necklace.
Was she really that materialistic?
