CELINE’S POINT OF VIEW

I had been standing by the window for what felt like hours, glancing down at the street every few
minutes.
After my argument with Logan earlier that day I had expected him to call. To send a message. To come home and coax me like he always did whenever we fought..
But nothing came.
The silence had stretched late into the night, leaving an uncomfortable knot in my stomach. Still, I
refused to call him. I refused to be the one who backed down first.
Then headlights swept across the quiet residential street.
My breath caught.
A familiar black Maybach pulled into the compound and came to a smooth stop downstairs. The dullness that had clouded my eyes all day vanished instantly as I leaned closer to the window.
Logan was home.
I watched as he stepped out of the car.
But instead of walking toward the house, he moved to the back door and opened it.
My smile disappeared.
Ava stepped out.
My fingers tightened around the edge of the curtain.
“What?”
The word barely left my lips.
Ava hadn’t returned since Anaya and I moved into this house. Logan had tried several times to convince her to come back, but she had always refused.
Yet tonight, after one argument with me, he had personally brought her home.
Anger burned through my chest.
I spun away from the window, my eyes immediately landing on Anaya. She was supposed to be doing her homework, but instead, she was sitting on the couch with my phone in her hands, completely

absorbed in whatever was on the screen.
Something inside me snapped.
“Anaya!”
She jumped, her shoulders jerking as she looked up at me.
“Mum…”

“Who gave you permission to touch my phone?” I stormed toward her and snatched it from her hands. “You never focus on your studies. All you ever want to do is play!”
Anaya shrank back, her small fingers curling into her palm..
“Mum… you’re hurting me.”
The moment I heard the tremble in her voice, my gaze dropped to her face. Her eyes were already glistening, tears gathering along her lashes.
But instead of calming me, the sight only made the anger inside me boil hotter.
“What are you crying for?” I snapped. “All you ever do is cry!”
Her lips quivered.
And then I looked back toward the door.
Logan was downstairs with Ava.
A cold thought suddenly slipped into my mind.
I stared at Anaya as she wiped at her tears.
“It’s because you’re so useless that your dad still won’t divorce Ava,” I said bitterly, letting my frustration spill onto the one person who couldn’t fight back.
Anaya began to cry harder.
And that was when the idea formed.
I grabbed her, taking my anger out on her just enough to leave her frightened and crying. Every sob
that escaped her seemed to sharpen the plan in my mind.
By the time Logan and Ava walked through that door, Anaya would be crying.
All she had to do was say Ava had frightened her.

Ava wouldn’t be able to stay.
A slow smile tugged at my lips.
I let Anaya go and watched as she curled into herself, her tear-filled eyes fixed on me.
She understood what she was supposed to do.
Now, all I had to do was wait.
Wait for Logan and Ava to come inside.
And then play my part.
AVA’S POINT OF VIEW
Logan had barely dragged me inside before his phone rang.

The moment he glanced at the screen, something in his expression changed. He stepped away to
answer, his voice low and clipped, but I caught enough to understand that something had happened at
the packhouse.
Then, without another word to me, he was gone.
Well, at least we don’t have to listen to him anymore, Karla muttered.
I slipped out of the residential area and headed toward the main road. All I wanted was to get back to Ashwood and collapse into my bed.
Shifting and running home was an option, but honestly? I didn’t have the strength. My wolf was tired, my feet hurt, and I wasn’t even sure I’d find a cab at this ridiculous hour.
Headlights swept across the road.
A black Jeep came to a sharp stop in front of me.
Definitely not a taxi.
The tinted window rolled down slowly, and there he was.
Lucian.
Of course.
Karla let out a tired groan. I’m too exhausted to comment on this. Save my suspicions for tomorrow.
I leaned toward the open window. “I’ve run into you twice in one night, both times when I desperately

needed a ride. I’m starting to think you’ve put a tracking device on me.”
Lucian’s expression didn’t change, but I could have sworn there was a flicker of amusement in his
dark eyes.
I didn’t wait for an invitation. I climbed into the passenger seat.
“Thank you,” I said, fastening my seatbelt. “You really helped me out tonight.”
“It was nothing.”
His voice remained calm and unreadable.
A large part of the reason Logan had agreed to contribute three million to Nyx’s store was because Lucian had known exactly what to say. He had pushed Logan where it mattered without making it look like he was doing anything at all.
I was curious about why he had stepped in for me, but I didn’t ask. Lucian rarely pried into my business, and I figured I owed him the same courtesy.
Besides, this wasn’t the first time I’d been in his car. Somehow, we’d ended up sharing this quiet space
more than once, and every time, the silence between us had felt strangely comfortable.
Tonight was no different.
I pulled out my phone and opened the pack forum/my exhaustion fading when I saw Celine’s latest
private message.
A few days ago, I had offered to help Logan with the pack’s growing need for medicinal herbs. Logan had shut me down almost immediately, telling me Celine already had a better plan.
What they didn’t know was that her brilliant plan depended on getting her hands on Bloodfern..
And what they definitely didn’t know was that I had quietly been working on that very market for some
time.
Through my dealings with Mistfen Pack, I’d learned more than enough about Bloodfern and Howlwort
-where they came from, who controlled their supply, and how desperately other packs wanted them.
So I had created a name.
Maeve Alder.
A private supplier with access to an almost unlimited supply of rare healing herbs.
No one knew who Maeve Alder really was.

She had been emailing Maeve Alder for days, trying to secure a collaboration for Silvercrest. At first,
she had been polite. Then persistent. Then almost desperate.
I had ignored every email.
Until now.
My fingers moved across the screen.
I appreciate the offer, but I must refuse to collaborate with your pack.
I hit send.
Oh, that was evil, Karla purred.
She’ll survive.
I watched the message change to Seen.
Celine had read it.
A quiet chuckle escaped me.
This was the project she had been so confident she could handle. The same project Logan had pushed me away from because, apparently, Celine knew what she was doing.
And how exactly had I managed to become the person controlling the one thing Celine desperately
needed?
Well… that was a story for another day.
My phone buzzed again.
Celine had sent another message.
This time, the offer was higher, with promises of long-term collaboration and enough flattering words
to make me laugh.
I turned off my screen.
There was no reason to reply. Not yet.
Out of the corner of my eye, I caught Lucian glancing at me. When I looked up, he immediately
returned his attention to the road.

“What?”.
“Nothing.”
His answer came too quickly.
I smiled and leaned back against the seat.

I slept so deeply that when I finally opened my eyes, sunlight was already spilling through the curtains.
The scent of tea reached me.
Lucian had already prepared breakfast.
It wasn’t anything extravagant. Just bread with strawberry jam and a warm cup of tea.
Still, I found myself smiling.
Don’t get used to it, Karla warned.
I wasn’t planning to.
Liar.
I ignored her and took a bite.
It was simple, but it tasted good.
Maybe because I was starving.
Or maybe because breakfast prepared by a ridiculously handsome Alpha somehow made plain bread
taste like something more.
After eating, I checked my phone and realized three days had passed since I’d last been to Silvercrest
Packhouse.
There hadn’t been much reason to return after the project had been handed over to Celine.
But today, I had time.
And curiosity.
So I shifted into my wolf and headed toward Silvercrest.
The cool air rushed through my fur as I ran, carrying the familiar scents of the forest past me. By the time the packhouse came into view, I had already shifted back.

The moment I stepped inside, I felt eyes turn toward me.
“Hey, look who’s back.”
I stopped.
Tala stood a few feet away with a smile stretched across her face. Unfortunately, her eyes didn’t match it.
I gave her a brief look and continued walking.
Naturally, she stepped into my path.
“Move.”
Her smile twitched at the edges. “Wow. Someone’s in a bad mood.”
“No,” I said flatly. “I’m just not interested in pretending I like you.”
Something dark flickered across her face before she quickly smoothed it away.
“Well,” she said, crossing her arms, “there’s good news.”
I let out a quiet sigh. “Should I be excited?”
“You might be surprised.”
“What’s the good news, Tala?”
Her smile widened, almost as though she had been waiting for me to ask.
“Celine’s project is going perfectly. Everyone is following her lead now, and she’s been doing an outstanding job.”
I resisted the urge to roll my eyes and started walking away, but Tala’s next words made me pause.
“She even managed to contact Maeve Alder.”
My steps slowed.
Karla, who had been unusually quiet, suddenly went silent.
Tala either didn’t notice or simply didn’t care. She continued with obvious satisfaction.
“That healer is incredibly popular right now. Celine contacted her personally, and apparently, Maeve Alder agreed to collaborate with our pack.”
Slowly, I turned around.

Tala was watching me with that snug little smile, clearly expecting surprise-or maybe jealousy.
Instead, the corners of my mouth lifted.
Well, Karla murmured, suddenly very awake, this just got interesting
I stared at Tala. “Did she?”
Her brows drew together slightly. “Yes. She did
I nodded slowly, forcing down the smile threatening to spread across my face.
“That’s wonderful news.”
Because Celine had absolutely no idea who Maeve Alder really was.
