AVA’S POINT OF VIEW

Tala giggled, the sound light and sweet, though there was nothing sweet about the smug look in her
eyes.
“Luna Ava,” she said, dipping her head in a mock show of respect. “You’re not the only one capable of
making impressive deals with powerful Alphas from other packs. Celine is quite capable too.”
I stared at her.
Seriously?
My gaze drifted over her face, taking in that fake smile she wore so proudly. She was enjoying this far
too much.
“How could that mysterious pharmaceutical genius possibly agree to Celine’s-”
“Surprised, Luna?” Tala cut in, her smile widening.
I looked at her for a long moment, then gave a quiet scoff.
Tala seemed to take my silence as confirmation that she had managed to get under my skin.
“I hope you’re happy to see your sister-in-law achieving such great results for your pack,” she continued, emphasizing the last two words. “After all, not everything has to revolve around-”
I turned around and walked away before she could finish.
I had better things to do than stand there and listen to Tala congratulate herself over Celine’s success.
Good riddance, Karla muttered in my head.
A smile tugged at my lips. Agreed.
Still, curiosity got the better of me.
I spent the next few minutes walking through different parts of Silvercrest, checking in on the
Gamma’s office, the training grounds, and the warriors.
Everywhere I went, I found the same thing.
Activity.
The training grounds were packed with warriors pushing themselves harder than usual, sweat glistening on their skin as the sound of sparring echoed through the air. People moved in and out of

offices with documents in their hands, and even the normally relaxed atmosphere around the packhouse had changed.
Everyone was preparing
Everyone wanted to be part of this new collaboration.
So, Tala hadn’t been lying.
I folded my arms and watched a pair of warriors spar for a moment before a small smile found its way onto my face.
Well… good for them.
I had done what I came here to do.
Maybe it was time I headed back to Mooncrest.
But seriously, I thought as I started walking away, I really need to find a shorter route to Mooncrest.
Because the journey?
Absolutely not.

“Close your shop. I’m taking you out.”
Nyx slowly lifted her eyes from whatever she was doing behind the counter.
Her expression was completely blank.
“My darling Luna,” she said dryly, “unlike you, I was not born into a wealthy pack. I opened this place to make money.”
I pouted at her.
Nyx stared back, completely unmoved.
“Oh? Fine then,” I shrugged, turning toward the door. “I guess I’ll just go to Black Rose by myself. You’ll
regret it when I come back and tell you all about it.”
Before I could take another step, Nyx spun toward the workers.
“We’re closed for the day!” she shouted. “You’ll still get paid, so don’t start complaining.”
My grin spread immediately.

Nyx shot me a look as she came around the counter, but there was already a smile fighting its way
onto her face.
A few minutes later, we were racing through the forest.
My paws struck the ground as Karla surged beneath my skin, wild and thrilled by the freedom of the run. Nyx kept pace beside me, her wolf darting ahead before slowing down again as though she was
trying to provoke us into a race.
Karla, naturally, refused to lose.
By the time we reached Black Rose, it had taken us less than eight minutes.
Black Rose was already alive with music when we arrived.
The place wasn’t packed, but it had that effortlessly beautiful atmosphere Nyx and I both loved-soft lights spilling across the entrance, expensive cars lined up outside, and music pulsing faintly through
the walls.
Nyx turned to look at me.
“I’ve been begging you to come here with me for ages, and suddenly, today, you have time?”
I smiled.
“I’m happy today.”
Her eyes narrowed.
“What happened?” She paused. “Did you finally dump that jerk?”
I shook my head.
“Dumping a jerk isn’t the difficult part.”
Nyx’s brows pulled together.
I looked ahead, my smile slowly returning.
“The difficult part is making sure they stay gone.”
For a moment, Nyx simply stared at me.
And then she noticed the look on my face.

Her eyes widened.
“Ava…
“What?”
“You know you look terrifying when you smile like that, right?”
I blinked innocently. “What’s terrifying about it? I’m happy.”
“You’re creepy.”
I took that as a compliment!
A laugh slipped from my lips as I pushed open the door.
“I cast a long line,” I said. “The fish finally took the bait.”
Nyx followed beside me, looking more curious than ever.
She didn’t know every detail of what had been happening, but Nyx knew me well enough to understand when I was excited about something.
“Are you ready?” I asked.
Her smile widened.
“Definitely.”
We stepped farther inside, but she suddenly slowed.
“What if someone recognizes us?”
I looked at her.
Nyx immediately waved a hand. “Actually, forget I said that. We’re not here as Luna and Alpha’s friend or whatever. We’re here to relax. Our identities have nothing to do with tonight.”
That only made me laugh.
Black Rose was the most famous host club in Mooncrest, with a reputation that had spread far beyond the pack’s territory. Nyx had wanted to bring me here countless times-sometimes to relax, sometimes to gather information about the place and study what made it so successful.
But I had always been too busy.
Tonight, I wasn’t.

Tonight, everything seemed to be falling into place.
So I decided we were celebrating.

Bottles of wine appeared on the table, and before long, the music had become louder-or maybe I was
simply paying more attention to it.
I moved my head to the beat, my body warm with excitement as I lifted my glass again.
“Ava.”
I heard Nyx’s voice somewhere beside me.
I took another drink.
“Ava, I know I’ve always wanted you to come here, but can you please stop-”
Whatever else she said disappeared beneath the music.
I raised the glass to my lips and took another long gulp anyway.
Tonight was worth celebrating.
And judging by the look Nyx was giving me, I had a feeling tomorrow morning might be worth
regretting.
