AVA’S POINT OF VIEW

I woke up feeling considerably better than I had the night before, although the faint embarrassment from everything that had happened still lingered somewhere in the back of my mind.
After taking a moment to gather myself, I left my room and headed toward the living room.
Lucian was already there.
He sat on the couch with his laptop resting on his thighs, his attention completely absorbed by whatever was displayed on the screen. The soft tapping of his fingers against the keyboard was the
only sound in the room as I stopped behind the chair opposite him.
For several seconds, I simply stood there.
Watching him.
Trying to decide whether I should actually bring it up.
Just talk already, Karla urged impatiently.
I bit my lower lip.
Easy for her to say.
I was still staring at him when Lucian finally seemed to notice my presence. His fingers slowed before
coming to a stop altogether. Then he lifted his gaze from the screen.
Those dark eyes settled on me.
I immediately felt caught.
His brow rose slightly, silently asking what I was doing.
I smiled.
“Hey.”
Lucian didn’t respond immediately, but he pushed the laptop aside and closed it, giving me his full
attention.
That was enough encouragement for me.
I moved around the chair and faced him properly, clasping my hands together in front of me.

“Uhm. you remember when I said I’d treat you to dinner?”
His gaze remained fixed on me.
No answer.
No nod.

Nothing.
Just that calm, unreadable stare of his.
I decided to take it as permission to continue.
“Well, you chose Sovereign Restaurant, which is in your pack,” I said, watching his face carefully. “And there’s this huge performance happening there on Friday.”
I paused.
“Today is Wednesday, so I was thinking…” A smile slowly spread across my face. “What if we booked a flight tonight and went?”
Lucian remained silent.
I quickly added, “My treat, obviously.”
My lips pressed together as I waited for his answer.
Don’t worry. He’ll accept. He chose the place himself, remember? Karla assured me.
I hoped she was right.
Lucian studied me for another moment before finally saying, “Okay.”
My entire face brightened.
“Really?”
He gave a small nod,
“Yes.”
I grinned, already turning away. “Perfect. I better go get my laptop and book the tickets-”
“There’ll be no need for that.”
I stopped.

Slowly, ! tumed around.
Lucian hadn’t moved from his seat.
My brows pulled together. “Why?”
“I already booked the tickets for two.”
For a second, I simply stared at him.
My lips parted, but no words came out.
I closed them again.
Wow, Karla murmured, sounding genuinely impressed.
I narrowed my eyes at him.
Had he known I was going to ask him this?
Or had I drunkenly said something about wanting to go there last night?
No.
That didn’t make sense.

I hadn’t even planned on going to Sovereign this Friday until I found out about the performance. The idea had only come to me recently, so there was no way I could have mentioned it to him before.
He probably just knew you were going to ask, Karla said.
I glanced at Lucian again..
That somehow didn’t make it any less suspicious.
I folded my arms across my chest and tilted my head slightly, a small smile tugging at my lips.
“Are you always like this?”
Lucian’s expression shifted, and for once, he looked genuinely confused.
“Like what?”
I held his gaze for another second, watching him closely. He was clearly waiting for me to explain, but
I eventually shook my head.
“Never mind.”

Something told me he probably wouldn’t understand what I meant anyway.
Still smiling to myself, I stepped closer to him.
“What time is the flight?
“We should be at the airport by ten.”
I nodded, feeling satisfied with that answer.
“Okay.”
N
I started toward my room, but before I disappeared down the hallway, I turned back around,
“Oh, and Lucian?”
His eyes lifted to mine.
“Remember that this is my treat.” I pointed at him. “You are not allowed to pay for anything.”
For the briefest second, something almost resembling amusement flickered in his eyes.
Then he nodded.
“Fine.”
I smiled triumphantly.
You know, it wouldn’t kill you to let him pay, Karla teased.
I pressed my lips together to keep myself from laughing.
Gosh.
Ignoring her, I returned to my room and pulled my suitcase from where I’d stored it. I had barely placed
it on the bed when my phone buzzed.
A message from Logan.
I picked it up.
Logan: We’ve already booked the flights. There’s no going back.
I rolled my eyes so hard they practically hurt.
Then I switched off my phone and dropped it onto the table.
Of course.

Logan had already told me they were going to another pack for a family dinner and had expected me to come along. I declined.
There were several reasons for that.
The first was simple.
I needed a break.
After the amount of alcohol I’d consumed the night before-and the embarrassing consequences that
came with it-I wanted nothing more than peace and quiet.
The second reason…
Well.
I simply didn’t care.
The old Ava would have jumped at the opportunity to travel to another pack with Logan. I would have seen it as another chance to play the perfect mate, to stand beside him and pretend that whatever remained between us could still be repaired.
But I wasn’t that Ava anymore.
Now, I couldn’t care less where Logan went.
Especially because I had a fairly accurate idea of where they would be going.
And when the time was right, I would drop the bombshell on him.
The first real step toward ending our marriage.
Toward my freedom.
The airport was crowded by the time Lucian and I arrived.
I had expected us to wait around like everyone else, but Lucian informed me that we would be flying
Elite Class-which, apparently, was essentially first class.
I didn’t complain.
Not even a little.
Once we were seated, Lucian opened his laptop almost immediately.

Lsettled into my seat and turned toward the window, watching the world outside as people moved around the runway. For a while, neither of us spoke.
Lucian worked.
I stared outside.
The silence stretched.
And stretched.
Then, after what felt like forever, he finally shut his laptop, placed it aside, leaned his head back against the seat, and closed his eyes.
I stared at him.
He’s so boring, Karla complained.
I pouted.
Honestly, she wasn’t wrong.
Was this seriously how the entire flight was going to be?
No.
Absolutely not.
I turned slightly toward him.
“So… where are we staying when we get there?”
Lucian didn’t open his eyes.
“I don’t know.”
I blinked.
Unbelievable, Karla muttered.
My brows furrowed as I turned fully toward him.
“You don’t know?”
Still with his eyes closed, Lucian said calmly, “You said it was your treat.
My lips parted.

He finally opened his eyes and turned his head toward me.
Those cold, dark eyes met mine.
“You should have all of that prepared.”
My mouth fell open.
I stared at him.
Seriously?
This man was unbelievable.
For several seconds, I couldn’t even find the words to respond. Then I slowly closed my mouth and turned away from him, refusing to give him the satisfaction of seeing how offended I was.
It’s literally his pack. He should know somewhere, Karla complained.
I was too annoyed to answer her.
Instead, I pulled out my phone and started searching.
Blackwood Pack.
Hotels.
Private suites.
Anything.
Since Lucian was the Alpha, I assumed he would probably have somewhere to stay within the packhouse or even his own residence. But because I had insisted that this trip was my treat…
I supposed I needed to find somewhere for both of us.
The prices that appeared on my screen nearly made me choke.
My eyes widened.
What kind of people were charging this much for a single night?
Apparently, the wealthy people of Blackwood Pack.
I kept scrolling, growing more horrified with every option I found.
Then Lucian spoke.

“We’ll be staying at the packhouse.”
My fingers froze over my screen.
I turned to look at him.
“A private room will be assigned to you,” he added calmly.
I stared at him.
My eyes narrowed.
“So you did know where we were staying.”
The corner of his mouth twitched.
Barely.
But I saw it.
Oh, I like him a little bit more now, Karla whispered.
I shook my head, trying to hide the smile threatening to form on my lips.
